Here's a tip for anybody making the Warthog run in Halo CE. If you do 360 at the big jump, you'll stabilize yourself and greatly reduce your chances of crashing.
4 km is about 2.5 miles.

I've sort of taken it upon myself to point out that the Warthogs may have a stated speed but actually drive about twice to three times sprinting speed which is why that 4 km took so long. Welcome... to Desert Bus.
