Awesome stuff LG! Im doing my chargeable hours so good to have a quick break! Great vid. Loved the shop and rod review...and of course your fishing my local! It is a lovely stretch of water Unfortunately there have been a few years of conflict between land managers and fisherman at that spot of the Fish R. A lot of pumping gear and fencing was sabotaged/stolen at one point, some tension and confrontations. Always good to know and respect the laws and introduce yourself to the land holders if you see them. Great people, but given the ease of access at the bridge has become difficult for them to know who to trust and who not too. Unfortunately they have to assume everyone is of the unsavoury variety. Betta get back to it...if I work hard I might get a few hours to follow your footsteps later this week!!! Just in your honour I might even un-moth ball by 30 odd year old Loomis GL3 9ft 4wt....the great great great grand daddy of your asquith! Still a decent enough rod!! (Will probably stick with the modern 963 and EN rods though!!)
@@anthonyclark6118 Important to know the history behind those signs - thanks so much for sharing, Anthony - I would love to see that Loomis GL3 9ft 4wt some day…
That was interesting. I have fished downstream twice and never felt confident about upstream because of those signs, even though it is clearly a TSR on the left bank. Next time I will definitely try upstream. It is a lovely stream and would be wonderful to fish it in a better season with more fish in the river. I blanked both times. Good to see there is at least 1 or 2 there and you got one of them :D
Hi there LG, I fished the downstream section of the river late December last year on light spin gear. I managed to catch two trout and numerous redfin so it was a good session. Just beware of snakes as I saw numerous specimens sunning themselves along the bank.
@@aaronbowie7368 Aaron - all that I can say is that we are both extremely lucky to be able to own and fish Loomis Asquiths - as they are superb rods - certainly the most accurate rods that I have ever fished with - what trout line do you typically pair your 5wt with? I bought the 5wt second-hand over 2 years ago for A$950 - which was the bargain of the century - rod had only been used a couple of times by the previous owner, and the cork was flawless. A perfect combination would probably be the 4wt and the 6wt as the 4wt has surprising backbone - I am comfortably able to throw a dry dropper with the 4wt. That said, I have always loved a 5wt - my favourite rod of all time is my first decent trout rod - a Sage Graphite III 586 RPL - 8’ 6” 5 weight - a perfect rod IMHO.
@@robertlouis24 yes, you did well there, that's an excellent price. As you have described, they are beautiful rods, I love mine. I am currently using it with a Rio Gold Elite that I have on a Lamson Speedster in the limited "Steve Perriwinkle" colour, its purple with orange hub, its cool. I have another Speedster with a SA Smooth Infinity taper which goes really well on it also. I can't believe your first decent rod was a Sage RPL Graphite III. My first decent rod was also a Sage RPL Graphite III but a 690. Mine I got from the Compleat Angler back in 1991, they use sell Sage rods that they would make up here in Australia, they still had the lifetime warranty but you got them a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than the factory rod. I am really keen to have a cast of the new Helios 5 weight. Thanks Robert. Aaron
hmmmmm rosenbud *cheer* 6.05 for the money shot guys :) thats so interesting about the river levels and banks etc.............there was a time where the land owners used too let us in if we came and had a chat but a certain segmant of the fly fishing community farked it about ten years ago anyhows great video mate :)
@@robertlouis24 thats coolio brohiam no biggy :) i too will find it useful as there seems too be a lack of info on too where we are and arent aloud. Great Vid :)
Thanks for the info on tackle, set up and the places you fish. All makes it worth watching. My Nautilus also wobbled a bit, and occasionally the leader would slip out of the spool. I found a Nautilus RUclips channel which showed how to insert some felt between the spool and frame to cure both problems. As a fellow ex-Saffer, thought I’d ask if you’ve researched the Origin II fly reel - designed in SA, built in South Korea, sells at $300-$400. Fantastic reel, great drag well tested on some big NZ trout a few months ago.
@@RuHa-s4q I have taken a look at the Origin II reels online - wow - stunning looking reels - definitely a reel that I would like to get in my hands some day…

I wonder how many landowners are aware of the access right of way along the bank. Most I know assume they own right to the water's edge.
ITS TEN METERS FROM THE EDGE WATER I BELIVE PUBLIC IS ALLOWED
