Mario Odyssey, Captain Toad, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Breath of the Wild, Luigi's Mansion 3, Smash Bros, Arms. Also, if it's not for his age group anymore, then why all the pandering to the original nearly 25-year-old Kanto titles?

Like, objectively those games were the best ones. Maybe B/W has the best story, but when it comes to gameplay B2/W2 and HG/SS are the best, due to being polished sequels with an already develop world (Specially B2/W2 with all the new content). And somehow IGN A.K.A team magma think SW/SH and S/M are the best ones which is a big lie.

Mythical Pokemon have rarely ever had in-game events, and the Legendaries started out sitting around in caves with no fanfair. The movies have always been where the Mythical plot was contained. At least they shoehorn them into the story now, but I haven't seen a game actually make a Legendary integral to the plot (read: not a last minute Macguffin) since Ruby/Sapphire. Even the surprise reveal in Sun/Moon was more of a sidenote.
Malcolm Johnson True, I missed Gen 5. But that's plot heavy all around. In theory most of the plotlines since Ruby/Sapphire have the villian's actively looking for one of the Legendaries, but most of them don't involve them quite so heavily. Sun/Moon sort of involved one, but he was pretty inconsequential in the end. I stand by my point that the earliest games had them standing around I a dungeon, and Mythicals have no main story at all. Occasionally they're hinted at.
I can't expect them to remodel and reanimate almost a thousand pokemon. They even said they were cutting down the dex just so they could do that. Yeah, guess what happened with that. _cries in reused models and animations_
Swsh:we will be cutting the dex so we can animate and model now. Swsh actually meant: we will be not be porting older models cause we count be bothered to upscale sun and moon as well as Citra, and fuck your animations
remember when every fucking pokemon had a unique battle animation that was interesting, unique, charming in gen 5? Yeah that was for 649 Pokemon. They're working with hundreds less and they cant be bothered to make them look more interesting
Remeber that they added all of those unique walking animations to USUM but never bothered to enable it because they couldn't stop it lagging? They are still on the cartridge rotting same with all the 4k models that they are still using in SWSH casuse "games are hard to make" god GF's new blood shames the old blood so bad.

@Major Thought Ahead AH YES, lets not fund a company so that people lose their jobs because your not happy with how they took the pokemon franchise! I'm sure there isnt a slippery slope there...
@Major Thought Ahead So your argument is in a game that doesnt have to make routes and towns and account for an infinite amount of other details and data storage, when all that team had to do was just take already existing designs and put them on a single game, that because they have more space for their animations due to literally not having to put anything else in the game, that means that if they had to make an entire pokemon game with fully detailed routes, music tracks, towns, gyms, story, events, and other mechanics, they would do just as well? Your not considering literally anything but animation in a game for if its good. Because guess what, Battle Revolution didnt fucking come up with anything on its own.
Major Thought Ahead the thing is that they have done this for 20 years, they don’t have to change the fighting mechanics significantly because of the amount of Pokemon and how they’ve been balanced, making simple new animations would be great. Also they promised that there were going to be new models and animation in E3, never lie to your consumers
Nolan Wilcox No they specifically said new Models and animations, why would I lie about something that was pointed out by leakers that the models and animations are the same.

Fire Emblem Three Houses: The game that finally brought the split fandom back together and managed to do both waifu pandering and having revolutionary tactical RPG elements at the same time.
First: Damn, Scott, that was some fine-ass singing. Second: I've realized that, personally, I've slowly begun to like Pokemon games less and less as they continue on simply because (sorry for this phrasing) I miss when they were simpler. All the cutscenes make me hesitant to replay anything past Bl2/Wh2, but even then I find myself going back to Gen 3 and before simply because of the many compact, but still satisfying playthroughs I can get from them. Seeing the quote basically saying "there's just too much stuff competing for the consumer's time, so we just won't add back such and such feature because it's too hard and not rewarding" is horrifying to see from a company I thought so highly of. Masahiro Sakurai utterly destroyed his hands (or maybe just the one, can't remember) working to make sure he did the best he could for a series he had just repeatedly been pushed back into making again and again even though he wanted to stop at Melee.
Ultimate, Odyssey, BOTW and LM3 all put Game freak to shame. Are there reasons for the terrible (comparative) quality of the game? Probably, almost absolutely. Are there *good* reasons for it? So far, no.
I feel like if the cutscenes were good it wouldn't be as bad, but most of them are not very good looking in my opinion, and the mouth flaps are extremely off putting
And also Sakurai worked with an IV attached to him. He is dedicated to his work but at the cost of his health. He needs a vacation after the big feats him and his team done.
Sakurai works his ass off to put in the effort Game Freak refuses to do and it's paid of immensely every single time. Smash bros is a top seller with nothing but a positive legacy with the most recent installment becoming the highest selling fighting game of all time, the previous record being held by another installment of it's own series. Pokemon has gradually deteriorated it's good will with consumers with the yearly releases all with the same problems, complacent higher ups calling the shots, and excusee that dont hold water.
It's really weird people hype up gen 5 so much. Like the ai is a little bit smarter but it's mostly a grind fest so unless you're into the Ev and IV stuff it's just painful.

As someone who bought Sword day one, and is currently in love with it despite it's MANY flaws... This right here is a masterpiece that perfectly explains the series' recent yet rapid decline in quality. Please accept this sentiment from a humble nobody on the internet, you amazing individual.
I’m kind of in a weird relationship with it honestly their are some really fun and expressive factors that show that “hey this is pretty next gen and more animated and fun looking” but then there are a couple nasty textures and terrible design choices that make the game looked rushed in some areas which is really sad in a way Honestly I’d say right now it’s above x and y easily but it’s gonna be an upward battle to top sun and moon due to it having the full roster and shiz and hell gen 7 is my 3rd favourite gen, 2 and 5 even despite their limitations are likely never gonna get beat I guess you could say it’s a love hate relationship
@@coffee-tz3lm Yes! 2 and 5 are the BEST! GameFreak really should've taken Zelda's BotW approach to making this game. If it wasn't complete, just delay it! That way, when you release the complete product, with ALL OF THE POKEMON, no one (or very few, not enough to matter, at least) would complain.
Tbh, toby seems to have been cursing every other game he is in. That one rpg game that came out last yer, yuuk or whatever it was Little town hero And now pokemon Lol
I honestly thought this was gonna be the Pokérap but only with Pokémon in Sword and Shield. It’s so much better than that. Also, those lyrics were far better than I was expecting, hats off to you Mr Falco.
Honestly, at least the KH collections provided us with multiple games worth of content. It was even fairly high quality content. Obviously, if you already owned the series, then 1.5 + 2.5 was worthless to you, but I prolly would not have gotten into KH without that collection, so it made me happy.
honestly. i've seen ultra sun and moon emulated and upscaled, and the models all look sword and shield quality, except for all the pixelated textures. sad when you realize similar effort was put into 3ds and switch titles, sword and shield just has better textures.
Do people seriously think that they don't make games with the part of their consumer-base that _actually has money, that played the first games as kids nearly 20 years ago_ in mind?

If there's always one thing I can appreciate about Scott it's that he's always honest. The man speaks his mind and he's not afraid to admit when things aren't perfect or that he doesn't like something. He's creative, genuine, and I honestly look up to him a lot. Thanks guys and thanks Scott!
Ehh, yes and no. Some thing can’t come back, like game corners. Some points like chatot’s cry and the ball stickers were a one and done cause people can’t control themselves Some things like underground difficulty is odd to argue because underground was rarely used and difficulty is something that had to be unlocked after you beaten the game… and get a code to unlock it in a fresh new save file. I also find it weird how people complain about reusing animations when other things do the same. (It was probably cause of pr at the time making it seem like they were redoing everything.) Honestly the major problem is that the games are rushed. We want them to take their time to actually make a solid game but it’s kinda hard to do so for many reasons that’s hard to solve. End of the day, buy it if you want to, don’t if you won’t. Just don’t harass or threaten people over your opinions
@@Kirby950Nobody was harassing people about their opinions here. We were stating the facts that since gen 5 the games have shown less and less improvement over the years. when a video game franchise moves from a handheld platform to a console there needs to be a significant improvement to warrant the transition. however, everything the Pokemon company has done so far sends the message that they are unwilling to change or improve.

Stonetown3487 Actually it’s starting to lose popularity. It’s still ginormous just not as big as what it used to be. (Probably is because they aren’t putting effort into the games though.)
Why didn’t I watch this sooner? I love this. Also now that I paused and see it’s encouraged that I can mention features that weren’t listed here. Sooooo... Contests And most importantly, GTS. Though to be fair, it *does* get rid of the “asking for level 1 legendaries” problem.
Could someone explain the lvl 1 Legends thingy to me? Seriously, I never understood it, especially since, to my knowledge, the only obtainable ones were the Creation Trio? (Maybe some others as well, but you get the drill, not every and in small quantity). So what's the big idea? Don't they want to get their Pokémon traded or something?

to be fair with x and y, it made the leap into 3d animation and i was expected for the third version to expand and include a ton more. not for them to drop the ball to get yet anothet generation out there which really bugged me as they dropped the mega evolutions which were my favorite addition
@@lionclan4575 Yeah, XY deserve praise for the jump to 3d models and taking risks like adding megas or the fairy type. I think that was the reason why the games weren't that great, coz they were trying new things.
I know we all have our own personal cutoffs, but I actually really enjoyed Gen 6. Got me into pokemon after a long long time. I found the Mega Evolution to be a really awesome mechanic, the jump to 3D was interesting enough, and the new pokemon were (largely) interesting and fun. Genuinely enjoyed myself. Gen 7 was my cutoff. That game really urked me something fierce. I hated the linearity and railroading. I wasn't allowed to explore or be left alone for longer than 5 minutes of progression, just really bugged me. The pokemon were all fairly meh (I'm sure I could pick out a couple I didn't hate, but I was very unimpressed with the roster). Watching my brother playing Gen 8, it doesn't look good, but it doesn't look... bad. I see some aspects I appreciate, but each one comes with its own catch.
3:36- I really appreciate this detail right here. With so many telling people not to buy the game and shaming anyone who dares show interest, it’s nice to see someone take the more mature approach to this whole thing. This perfectly sums up my feelings towards this generation. I'm just not excited for these games. They're underwhelming, and it makes me sad to think about what could but will never be for this franchise.
I was seriously hoping Pokestar Studios would be on here. "Oh it's just ten minutes of wasting time before Castelia" NO, it's a series of battle puzzles that has never really been done in any other game. And it's hella fun.
Honestly pokestar studios wasn’t that bad, it’s just a small sidetrack before more stuff comes along and it’s actually pretty cute and atmospheric. I don’t really see why people complain about it so much
I don't like Pokéstar Studios, though I'm not saying it's bad. My only real problem is that it's mandatory to do it at least once before continuing the story, when I want to do something that rewards me for doing it. If you like it, all the power to you.
Gamefreak: People will just buy the game anyway~! Nintendo: **sees underperforming sales of one of their top franchises** You and I need to have a chat...
This is 100% what I hope happens. Nintendo has ALWAYS been very upfront about the fact that they like their games to be immaculate and polished. They won’t want their name on something like this. Best case scenario is that they, along with The Pokémon Company, force Gamefreak out of the picture. Gamefreak has no passion for Pokémon anymore. They put their B team on mainline Pokémon games and use their A team for their own titles (that fail tremendously because they don’t float on by because of the Pokémon name being attached to those titles). They don’t even seem like they want to make Pokémon games anymore.
It is sad. Two names that I have always had great respect for, Kojima, and Gamefreak. Both are releasing subpar games, lacking in gameplay or other things. Too many people enable this by continuing to buy anyway, when we should all refuse to pay when the quality dips. Just like I am skipping on Death Stranding, I am skipping on this Pokemon game. They don't get my money if they release games that strip down features or lack gameplay or get pretentious or are glitchy messes. On my blacklist right now are Blizzard, Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda, Gamefreak and Kojima. Blizzard will probably stay on there forever along with EA. Ubisoft could win me back if they released a game that functioned. Bethesda just aren't getting my money unless there is major reform at the company. Gamefreak need Nintendo to give them a kick up the arse. Kojima needs to drop the pretentious fuckery he has had since Metal Gear Solid 4 and release games that are actually video games like he used to.

Sun/Moon sort of involved one, but he was pretty inconsequential in the end.
I stand by my point that the earliest games had them standing around I a dungeon, and Mythicals have no main story at all. Occasionally they're hinted at.

Yeah, I cant replay any 3-d pokemon games because of this. The 2-d ones were just better

@@wulfherecyning1282 Ubisoft maybe since they pushed back sone of their games to later 2020. Since they admit their ghost recon games sucks and didn't meet their standards.

For me the major problem I have with Sword and Shield is not being able to turn the EXP share off.
I'm at Lv. 50 already and still have three gyms to go. I'm always at least 10 levels higher than everyone else in the game which makes battles stupidly easy.
one word I got: xp candies. They’re cool but you get them WAY to easily and it makes Training so lame.
I tried ignoring it but in the back of my head I thought “ whats the point of this when I could just give them theses candies”
Fans didnt want to press mega button to win anymore, so gamefreak made it where you dont even have to hit that button.
This also goes for Z moves. Dear game freak, DONT MAKE COMBAT GIMMICKS, YOURE GARBAGE AT BALANCING GAMES AS IT IS
I still say the MAIN issue is the balance in NPCs Trainers. Like give me the option to turn XP share off sure. More choices the better but there should be at least a difficulty option that's hard enough to make me wish I hadn't turned it off.

What is it with Japanese game execs saying "guys making games is haaaaard" every five minutes? I thought Sakurai was just tired of being in charge of Smash Bros but I keep seeing the same sentiment expressed from other companies, too. Like, yes, making games is hard, but what the hell are you trying to do? Seek pity from consumers after deciding to ignore fan outcry?
Like, no, developers are not obliged to make a game fun, just like customers aren't obliged to buy any particular game. If developers want to make sales, however, they need to make something fun, and if they want customers not to complain, they should _listen to the damn customers._
There's nothing wrong with Sakurai saying that since he is literally basically killing himself to make this game.
Japanese devs have always had broadly that sort of attitude. Look at the number of Japanese games (especially 3d RPGs) with super floaty character movement. It seems this mindset has finally infected Nintendo and its second party studios.
@@wulfherecyning1282 ok but Sakurai is allowed to because he continues to work on the game despite its proven negative effect to his life, and then blows are expectations out of the water

That’s the magic of them never making and KEEPING upgrades. You don’t miss anything the new games have because features never transfer. Playing ORAS and using the DexNav then playing SuMo with RotomDex is like going from a brand new Rolls Royce to a Ford Taurus with an engine that’s literally on fire.
If they can render 30 pokemon in the wild area they can render 6 in a horde battle
Heart Gold/Soul Silver & Black/White 2 were best, I refuse to fight you!

Your opinion is right
Crystal and B/W. But why do you think those ones are best (this is a question for you, too, Scott)?
@@gunslingergirl2579 For me, Heart Gold was my first main series Pokémon game, so it holds a special place in my heart. My actual first game was Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness. Gen 5 was great for me because I went in completely blind with White introducing me to nothing but new mons. The story holds up and the characters were great imo. The follow up games were direct sequels, so I really enjoyed how alot changed, including a new story. Overall, both games offered so much content like legendaries (with actual events and sidequests), walking Pokémon, and optional side content like musicals/movie battle thing. Heart Gold had that wifi plaza gathering event where you played minigames. These are games that I think I spent the most hours on (over 500 for each).

I love Mega Evolution so much, but ORAS have been the only games to give it the respect it deserves.
Or character customization. For some reason, only one region in the entirety of the Pokemon universe isn't populated by conformist clones. And that isn't something I made up, it was GameFreak's reasoning for not having as robust character customization from Pokemon X and Y in future games.

The song is also kinda mediocre. Its clearly made by the guy who made Undertale... but has kinda this weird Pokemon twist that i dont like that much.
He made an entire soundtrack for another game made by Game Freak. (Title: (I think) Little Town Hero) Or you could buy the Sans Mii costume in Smash Bros. and get a remix of Megalovania with it.

the gts, contests, and pokemon amie/refresh are probably what i miss most. if i actually had friends during the lifespan of xy, im positive id miss the pss as well. im super fond of little soft side things in games (like playing with your pokemon) which make you feel like you have more options and things to do and different ways of doing them. instead of being a soulless, robotic trainer set on becoming champion and growing stronger and nothing else, it can feel like your character has some more personality based on side activities like that.
i finished the swsh main game and post game in just under 24 hours while i was taking my time and going out of my way to do as many things outside of the main storyline as i could/was willing to. i enjoyed the game, but not as pokemon gen 8. hopefully gf has seen where they went wrong this time (nobody would want the whole national dex and gamefreaklied messes again) and will step it up for the next title.
