First things first: Welcome to Germany, hope you'll find it the right place to be. Second, make sure you take your time to travel Germany, While Germany is very small compared to the US, it is astonishingly diverse - you'll find a lot of regional differences. Consider those, before setteling. Third, a carrer-tip: Consider hiring with a business consultants company's international law department. While the job might not be, what you are looking for, it is usually high-paid if you bring in proper expertise - like your law-school degree+practice in US law. Spend a few years in such a company, build a contacts base and after that, consider turning yourself into a freelance-consultant for US law: Good opportunity to make money, while retaining the freedom to schedule work more to your liking. All of the above should be easy for you. In the aforementioned companies, it is not uncommon to use englisch as the daily language, so you should get along even with limited German language capabilities.

"we ended up getting married", I like the tone of your voice when you said it. No worries, my marriage lasted 11 years, the last 3 of which were a waste of time. Fortunately, no children, so divorce was easy, or could have been, if we had agreed on "Gütertrennung", that means, who has bought a thing, it belongs to him/her. We didn't do that, so under German law, you automatically have a "Gütergemeinschaft", which means, all items bought belong to both, no matter who paid for it. I was on the brink of cutting our very expensive living room table in half with a Handkreissäge, and tell my former wife, "here's your half". Of course, I didn't do that. @@picklerick7207 germany has a different understanding of social life and work than the US have. On one hand in germany you are handing 40-60% of your salary to the state but therefore the state pays for lots of things you have to pay yourself in the states. Also, as far as i know its not uncommon in the states to pay certain insurances and services that in germany just get payed from everybodies taxes. So if you are one of these ppl who pays a lot of these its probably not even a big diffence. Hiwever if you are not things can be very different. A good example is when you go to university. Student loans are a thing unheared of in germany and i dont need to tell you how big of a problem they are in the US. On the other hand in germany lots of ppl go to university who dont make much out of it. Probably more than in the US i would guess. In short: its 2 completely systems with 2 completely different thoughts behind them and the complexity and what these systems entail makes it completely impossible to say one is better or worse. It really depends on what mindset you subscribe to. Me personally i think germanies system does a much better job of helping the weak and keeping society together tighter. Like you dont need to be riich to go to the theater. The state pays the theaters so their cards are cheap and pretty much everybody can afford them (i think its about 10 bugs for a show). And thats a place where the rich, the medium wage and even the poor ppl meet up in a room every once in a while. US, as far as i know doesnt have such places and i think thats bad for a society. So i am totally on board with the "german mindset" and therefore this systems seems way better than what the US has. But i can totally understand ppl who see it differently.

@@picklerick7207 US salaries are higher because the cost of living is much higher in the states. Where I live in the US compared to the city my family in Germany lives, the groceries alone are nearly 30% cheaper there. Depending on your income, the tax difference isn’t much. I might pay $2,000 less in taxes a year in the US but my out of pocket costs for medications in addition to deductibles for all other health care far surpasses $2,000 a year. Don’t even get me started on the cost of university in the US compared to Germany. @picklerick7207 , it is all a matter of perspective. My husband's salary is better here in Germany. Even as a teacher, I would make more money here in Germany. Access to health care is better as well in terms of availability and costs. It can be more difficult for immigrants to find work here, but the same applies to the US.

What about citizenship? Germany does not offer dual. All of these concepts and opinions are mine as well. I visit Germany every year. Missing it during covid times! Prost!
German law generally discourages dual citizenship, but it does not always require that applicants renounce their citizenship before becoming German. Citizens of other EU member states have the right to dual citizenship inside the bloc. Of those 112,211 naturalized German citizens in 2017, almost 39,000 came from EU member states and 99 percent kept their original nationality.

Hi Seth, many good comments in your video. I have several American friends who have moved to Germany, and some more are close to doing it. At least 2 will leave the US if Trump wins. Like many Germans I have always loved the US, I have traveled 36 states so far and I really know the place and its culture inside out ... but LIVE there? The way the political climate in the US has changed the country became pretty unattractive for us. You have to remember that what's called "liberal" (or even "communist") in the US is pretty right wing for our taste. The US Democrats would certainly not be "left wing" or "liberal" in Germany, or in Europe for that matter.. Welcome to Germany - which has many problems too but is still a more relaxed place for most people who are not super-rich multi-milliionaires.

Yes FACTA is killing us over here.... It seems no one in the states really cares about it either, like we are the only Country in the world that double taxes its citizens..

@@shieldgenerator7 • Corruption in Europe’s health services is surprisingly common
It happens most in the east but is rising in the west
European health care is in a sickly state. In Britain more than 6.5m people are on waiting lists for treatment, up by more than 50% since 2019. Patients in Spain wait an average of 123 days for an operation, the most in 18 years. The pandemic bears most of the blame. Disruptions to essential treatments created backlogs and strained services. But even before covid-19, health care in Europe was in trouble. Waiting lists had been creeping higher across much of the continent. It should perhaps be no surprise that a study published on September 6th by researchers at Imperial College London finds that patients are being asked to grease their practitioners’ palms to secure treatment (see chart).

Instead, I imagined how her new man would disassemble that whole thing and reassemble it in their new location. I don't know how they did it, but when I came back to my home, the table was gone.
We didn’t fight over anything. In fact, when I decided to move here she got first choice of my stuff and took quite a bit. I’m not the least bit angry or bitter with her. I hope she’s happy.

Many in the USA have made their fortunes from oil, engineering, and international trade. The computer boom of the last 40 years has also provided more than a few millionaires.

Germany
While Germany is famous as a country with a strong economy and excellent engineering pedigree, did you know it had so many millionaires?
Europes largest economy reportedly hosts over 400,000 millionaires. Germany excels in four main industries:
• Automotive
• Mechanical engineering
• Chemical
• Electrical industries
• Likely you can immediately think of well-known brands such as Audi, Siemens, and other companies that are world leaders in these areas.
China
China has created a manufacturing industry of unprecedented proportions and invested in methods of shipping their wares around the world. They leverage their high workforce, sourced from their high population, to do this.
As a result, entrepreneurs and business leaders have reaped the benefits. There are 4.4 million millionaires in China according to recent reports
