Well said. Tho, I too am a fellow 120 owner and I reckon he'd be pushing, if not topping out on his GVM totally loaded the way it is (hence why I'm looking at a possible new vehicle upgrade shortly). Love the vids Ronnie.
Great to have guests like Todd - well thought out mods, plenty of home brew mixed with good gear...very sensible mods and prep - especially the hints on the winch!
Nothing wrong with prados. Just not built for the same purpose. As for being a por mans Landcruiser. Prados arent bloody cheap. Pay around 50-60k for a 2016. Wouldnt call that “poor”.
Thanks for the upload. Love the Prado 120 diesel. Massive range with the stock dual 90l tanks and with a few modifications it’s an amazingly capable off-road vehicle.
For anyone interested in seeing how this rig has progressed, head over to my channel to watch the updated Modified video on all the new mods, accessories and upgrades. It's changed a whole heap since filming this!
After all the mods on our 150 series, one of the last we recently did was an exhaust and tune and it was just what the 3.0L D4D needs. Great video. Great mods and good guest too. Nice work team RD! If you every want to review a 150, head on over to Brissy Ronny :)
I did the boost mod using $20 hydraulic fittings....simple, tunable and cheap. It really improved the drivability, lowered the torque curve a little and cleaner power through to 3,000rpm right were you want it on this engine.
Go the same model but 2009 , with the 1KD-FTV 170 hp/410 N⋅m version, I would say power is adequate fro me. Starting my build as well, looking at a fridge atm. and an RTT. Very good ideas you had, I will steal some :) Good luck with the build
The water system to the back door is genius. I would suggest a simple ball valve at the end of a low point drain be added somewhere below the faucet head to reduce the drippy affect while driving. Or, add a duckbill valve in the line somewhere prior to the faucet.
Thanks for this one. I have the 06 120 so this was great to watch. Mine has 147,000 on it so I know I have a lot of trouble free fun to go. Great truck well done.
oh sh1t, i think i do the same thing. never realised it 'till you said and now i'm confused and don't know which one i normally say :) i'm losing the plot
I have same Prado and put a Cross Country Front mount intercooler, bigger turbo and a Steve Wilson Diesel Chip in it. Now around 200kw and 600 nm tourke. And use around 10.5 litres per hundred.
Brad H were did u go to get the bigger turbo? Or did u just change the guts with with new parts...as I have been looking for awhile now and had no luck
Brad H ...I live in the NT so I would have to buy one n get it shipped to me or drive to some one to get it done ...at this point I am tossing up on a scoop or front mount intercooler...
Done testing on bonner scoops vs the channel, the suprising part is the channel (double skin bonnet) is considerably more effective than a bonnet scoop (provided you don't block the airpath with massive aftermarket head lights.
You need to get people to say the actual tyre size not just 31/32/33 ect because the majority of the time thats not the size that's just what they measure to. Like these are obviously a 265/70r17 or 275/65r17 but for people who want to know the exact size a lot of ppl dont say
I’m interested on how the Bonnet scoop being installed. Can you share videos how it was made from start of to end... since the crucial point is the measurement of the hole to fit the intercooler! Ty for helping.
Cheers for featuring my Prado Ronny and Amalia! If anyone wants to find out more about modifying their 120 Series or follow my build further (its changed a fair bit since this was recorded) then follow my RUclips channel and Instagram page @toddy_boy56. Lots of new exciting content coming soon! Thanks
NIce vehicle. Not sure if the 120 suffers the same dangerous flaw as the 90 but anyone who has a 90 should regularly check the lower ball joints. We are seeing MANY 90 series losing their front wheel due to LBJ failure. It happened to us on the way home from Albany and it isn't a good experience.
Western Australia Now and Then the 120 ball joint is upside down and pushing the ball into the joint not like the 95 which pulls the ball from the joint. Only fit genuine ball joints on the 95 and you’ll have no issues, went to the cape in may in a standard 95 and no issues.
@@jamesrobert3114 The LBJs in ours were original but there also seems to be an age related problem with them. There are so many of these vehicles losing their front wheels now it is very worrying. We try to warn owners to get them inspected if they haven't been done for a while. Sooner or later someone is going to get seriously injured or killed. Before we lost the wheel we even took the car to a mechanic complaining of an odd noise coming from the right front but they didn't pick up the problem and two weeks later the wheel came off.
Things I wish we got here in the US in our 120 - rear mounted spare, extended range fuel tank, turbo diesel. Sigh. I would be happy with any one of those additions. Still, I guess its not all that bad, the only engine we got here is a drinker but its also a mover.
I have a 2008 1kzte model, dual fuel tanks, wich I have no idea how they work, as for wich tank fills first and how the second one gera filled and wich tank feeds the engine and how it changes tanks, which goes empty first, lots of questions ha
1500km range... Hmmmm, I had a Prado without an RTT and it was impossible to get that range once the accessories went on (bull bar, tyres, roof rack). Other than that nice job all around and tidy. But be careful linking a Deep Cycle battery to your main for the purposes of augmenting the current during winching as deep cycle batteries are not designed for high current quick discharge due to the thinner internal lead plates.
While i agree, that is basically out the window now with Lithium iron deep cycles. probs need to say AGM or GEL batteries instead of blanket deep cycle.
@@cyclemoto8744 haha too true mate! they are really incredible batteries, although the price point is insane. but for the amount of cycles and depth of discharge you get from them i do think it is a worthy investment if the wallet allows, not even mentioning the weight saving. Have a good Christmas mate!
His black rims gave me an idea. Imagine a black Prado with black rims, white sidewall writing on all the tyres & “Interceptor” written down both sides of the bottoms of the doors. A 4wd version of the Mad Max Interceptor. Black on black. That’d look so nice. Might have to get the gold MFP police badges to really pull it off though which would be fixed on the paint work behind the front wheels. Would be a great themed car with a 4wd twist. A V8 Cruiser would be the go though.
Hey mate just a question, planning to put a arb bullbar on my 120 prado.. do i need to put 2inch lift before i get one? Or it can stay on stock suspension?
Fellow 120 Prado owner. Great to finally see the diesel Mod. The lad knows his stuff

Very practical well thought out but not overboard on anything...like it
Aussi have the best overland cars in the world.. Respect🤔✌️😎
Oi, been waiting for this. Sweet Prado. Thanks
Nice ride👌👍
YESSSSSS my car, finally my dream video!!!
Brings back memories of my old Prado 120. I found pradopoint invaluable for info back then. Thanks for showing us this one. Cheers Steve
Nice rig! That guy is cool

Man these builds are next level! Absolutely love this rig.
19:34 MCM sticker in the hood! Awesome guy in the video, and great taste in car modding channels!
Picking up a gx470 (US lexus 120 prado with 4.7 v8), getting so many good ideas from you guys!

Love the bonnet scoop, good job on that👍
Very well put together. Thanks.

Enjoyed that watch, nice setup in the rear too I must say.
Never seen a Prado this modified, Awesome.
This looks really smart in white with the white bumper.
Never seen a white one before, nearly every one over hear is silver
Very Nice Prado. I'm one of those with the Lexus GX470 here in the States and love it.
120, love it.
Cheers guys, fellow Perthy and love these videos so much. My stock 150 is yearning, love seeing the behind the scenes and tips.keep it up
Damm right! Here in Brazil we got the fj120, but not so much videos about different mods! Keep doing this videos!
That rear storage with fold down table design is genius
Love it! A happy American GX owner, great video Ronny
Nice one fellas! Would like to see a vid on the D4D 120 Prado (Common Rail/Direct Injection Diesel).
Project black in the Prado. Like ours 👍🏻 love this video ronny. Also made a damper on out trip like you did in your video. Cheers.
Hi Ronny, would love to see a video on the new Toyota Hilux n80. Don’t think you’ve done a modified on the new 2.8 Toyota engine
Nice one, thanks mates!
Lovely machine,nicely done.
Great intro and music is spot on.
I like this prado. Good one!
Lovely Prado! Got the updated version of that engine in my 2007 120 series ^^

16:53 440.000 km is quiet a lot. I'm surprised that the owner doesn't say anything about wether or not the injectors have been changed.

My bad, I just noticed it's a 1KZ and not a 1KD common rail engine.
Cheers
gives me pause for thought to go get a nice Lexus GX here, as most are used for soccer mom cars for school runs
That’s the same as in Australia and that’s what makes them so good, you can get them cheap with no Mods meaning they haven’t been messed up yet
Great video, well done rig. I wish we had the dual tanks from the factory over here in the states on the GX.

What brand is the rear hitch recovery point? The only ones I can find stick out too far, but that one looks just right. Thanks!
Worth paying more for the D4D engine?
