I had an old ford escort diesel 1.8 non turbo about 1997 it never stopped smoking.white smoke all The time i had the car 2 years.never stopped smoking white smoke .now I know about diesel pressure and dripping leaking injectors
I thought someone had fitted the pump belt a notch out something like that.would have been easy to fix but I never figured what it was.i wasent very clued up with diesels in those days.i could have gone in a scrap yard and nicked 4 injectors.but thanks you solved a 25 year old problem I had.at the time I couldn't find an answer without paying out big money..ive learnt a lot more since then.i always found screwing out diesel injectors and putting them back caused them to leak through the body.but thanks for this.very helpfull my daughter had that similar diesel car.the dual mass flywheel was rattling and we couldent be bothered fixing it.your a lot cleverer than me.

Reasonably good video Alan in connection with the others regarding injector removal/replacing. My diesel Mondeo is at the 234k mark and had same symptoms only lighter. Was on top of the problem, removed the injectors, gave them a good clean, refitted, problem gone for now. Second time now in about 4-5years when I have removed the injectors. The amount of gunk was considerable but nothing we can not overcome. Great videos, thanks man

Interesting video ! I have a 2.0 tdci mondeo, and mine is always smoking on hard acceleration, same colour as this one. no error codes, EGR changed, no boost leaks.... I'll have a look at the injectors, I didn't know that they would be wet if they were leaking, seems like a smart assumption when you put it like that 😂😂

Good work and video as always, I remember I had Peugeot 2.0 TD some years ago, it used to be like that, I changed fuel filter and glow plugs and it was still a Rat Bag on a cold start, I think looking back I bet it was injectors at fault, it was clouds and clouds of smoke and incredibly difficult to start from cold.

I had a MK3 Mondeo 2 litre diesel that did that; difficult start, lots of smoke, but spot on when warmed up. Main dealer reprogrammed the injectors, which reduced the smoke by 60% and turned the fuel system fault light out, but warned that if the light came back on I'd probably need new injectors...

Re using a screwdriver to hear bad bearings etc, cut the bottom off a 4 pint jug, stick the other end over the screwdriver handle and u have a perfect listening device. Btw 110k for a diesel in 12 years suggests low use, and this seems to be the killer for most Diesel engines particularly glow plugs and injectors as well as the emission gubbins. Great vid as ever 👍

Just to share my experience for the same: white smoke, very rough idle, knocking sound, car not driveable. No errors whatsoever. I suspected the injectors, but after testing them on a stand, they were OK. Replaced also the pressure regulator on the injectors ramp. After almost 2 months, I've reset the injection learned values and went on a trip (accelerating and decelerating for around 15 km). Out of nowhere, the smoke went away and all was back to normal. A year has passed since then. Hence, if you are not sure of the deffect, try this one as well, before spending more money.

Speaking of the leaking coolant hose mine's been slowly leaking for a while at the same spot (mine's a mk4 2.3 though) and already got the spare but haven't got round to fit it... reminds me to change it before it's too late! And for the air con pump I would say it's not too bad in this case - in Hong Kong where the air con sees over 8 months of usage per year we have bad stories where a failing pump internal brings down the air con radiator and the expansion valve...
Keep up the good work and look forward to the next video!

My work van is a 2012 Transit and i've stuck 200,000 miles on it. It dont smoke and still returns 31mpg. It also dont burn oil and dont leak it either. I've had it serviced every 20,000 miles from new and admit to looking after it better than others would. Flip to identical Transit in depot with half as many miles...thing is a complete shed due to not looked after.

Agree, regular servicing is essential for longevity of a vehicle but I’m surprised the intervals are 20,000 miles- that’s a lot of miles for an oil change even if it is Fords recommended schedule- My Mazda is supposed to be every 9000 but I always do it at 6000. I know modern oils are far superior than even a few years back but I still think the gaps are too long.

I had a 2012 1.6 titanium Mondeo. I had real problems with the fuel filter getting gumed up through winter. I would have to change them 2 times to get though winter. I don't know how true it was. But apparently it was down to the Very fine filters they use on the 1.6 which ment that in colder weather the fuel would start to leave wax deposit in the filter

Might have been algae, seen it in a combine where it was parked every winter with a full tank and stored until summer, the filter got clogged every time and it also caused fuel pump issues 🤔 That, or not enough antigel additives/too cold weather maybe?

Apparently a very slight bend in piston rods cause this smoke! not allowing the piston to reach the top of its compression stroke there for not compressing fuel/air mixture at the correct time after warm ok np as the heat helps. So valve sealing are weak as well...
I had to replace engine in my 2.2TDCI due to injector failure.
Now in new engine I have constantly problem with injector washers leaking.

Did you clean the bottom of the injector holes? Maybe the seat in the head should be re-cut for an even surface and better sealing? (If you mean the washer under the injector)

@@petermolnar8667 It was re-cut secound time with Draper hand tool, even injector was swapped. When was tight with proper torque still was leaking so was slightly over tighten ~45Nm. Then was fine for about 20000km and start leaking again🥺
