    Seeing a flock of wild galahs in the early morning flying from a huge gum tree and then playing together ,flying acrobatics calling to each other is one of my favourite things to see when I get off night work early in morning.Opal is a beautiful baby, hope she has along happy life.

      Some idiots decided to free fly their Amazon’s at Ocean Beach near my house a couple of years ago, and they spent about 10 minutes free flying, and then 12 hours looking for 3 of their bird who got chased by the massive predatory birds that are well known for hanging around the beachfront

    The freedom they experience must feel like a baby does taking those steps that turn into a short run. I lost a Speckled Parrolet in 2010 when the front door and lanai screen door were opened by a house guest at the same time. Then in 2017 I lost my male Quaker of 7 years when my wife went out the same doors for a cigarette. She didn't notice that he was on her shoulder when she opened the screen door he flew out into the night, it was 9:30pm. Watching how Dave and Jamie work with our winged friends has taught me a lot. I replaced my male Quaker with a female who imprinted me and never leaves me out of her sight but for a short very short moment. Love you guys!!!!

    @birdtricks I can see how the galah kind of struggle with the wind , as it was trying to land on the owner's hand. This footage is really an eye opener , for me , about the wind and birds. And I love how you make comparison of footage between how well the galah has been trained at home and when it was the actual free flying trip , and glad that there was a gps tracker attached to the bird. Eventhough birds naturally fly, but they really have to learn how to fly and cope with problems during flights. Thanks for sharing.

There are risks in everything but their track record and dedication to the birds is amazing. Besides the thought of not letting my bird experience free flight is even more terrifying.

    The Magpies and other Corvids in our back yard DO NOT go near Galahs or other parrots . Knowing Galahs can and do chew the antennae's off Microwave dishes makes you realise just how tough these birds are. We used to shoot at flocks of them in their thousands to scare them out of the wheat fields, they do not care. The joke goes that to cook one you put it in a pot with a rock and when the rock is soft, eat the rock. As a kid we always had galahs at home. They nest in hollows one bird on top of the next, the last birds to hatch usually die from being under the mess and missing out on food. We used to illegally rescue the bottom 2 birds and hand raise them. We do not have house birds now as we prefer to just watch the free ones

      I’m also a free flight student. We work intensively on the bond between parrot and trainer. That bond is what keeps the parrots returning. The birds will have their fun flying but they’re motivated to return to their trainer.

      Maybe you didn't understand how this all went down. Opal was learning to fly outside and had difficulties getting back. She went to ground and was harassed into flying further away. We didn't "capture him" after the chase, we found him and he happily came to us as he was trying to do all along. Opal sat on my hand for hours that night just happy to be with us and then every day for the rest of that week we went out and did it again.
      The training builds a bond of trust and a feeling of safety. Opal did everything he could to get back to us.

      Go to birdtricks.com. They have videos and consultants you can purchase. IT IS WORTH THE MONEY! I have a cockatiel that I did EVERYTHING wrong with in the beginning. He was very hand shy and would be scared, defensive and aggressive at times. He has completely turned around and now flys to us when called and loves hanging out with us. I have minimal issues with him now. When I do have an issue, I now have the tools and knowledge to turned the situation around and it's like that moment didn't happen. I hope you check it out. Sending some love to your teils❣

    Hey i have a question,
    I got a new cockatiel, and i just got him to eat out of my hand, but whenever i take the treat (like a nutriberry) away, he lashes out and kind off tries to bite my hand. How do i stop him from doing that?

    • @Spiderific
      @Spiderific 3 года назад

      Don't take the treat away. Birds are very territorial over their food.

    • @ancore6761
      @ancore6761 3 года назад

      @@Spiderific Yeah i know but i usually let him eat from a long piece of millet, and he can't eat all of it... He's still very young so he doesnt really take sunflowerseats or other big hard seeds... Dont i encourage the behavior if i let them have it even after being agressive?

    • @Spiderific
      @Spiderific 3 года назад

      @@ancore6761 Best thing to do for the little ones is get a millet clip. This clips the millet strand to the cage or wherever else you want to clip it. Then the bird can eat and you can take it away when the bird walks away from it. For snacks, best to just put it in the bird's bowl and take it out when they are done. Birds are just naturally territorial with food. It's a wild instinct in them to protect their food. Best thing to do is work around those instincts rather than try to train them out, because that will just hurt your relationship and it won't work in the end.

    • @ancore6761
      @ancore6761 3 года назад

      @@Spiderific Thank you, i get that. I just don't know what to do during training because he doesnt really eat anything else as a treat, and i can't let him keep eating until he has had enough cuz then the training wont work :/
