@YouOpaOpa I just had a thought. If that kiss was such an amnesia kiss, then why in Superman 4: The Quest for Peace, Lois remembered Superman's name: Kal-El? Just a thought!!
I don't want to see that movie again even though it's been 35 years. But if I recollect, by kissing her he restored her memory, and did it because he needed her.

“Lois, I don’t know what to say.” That was truly a heartfelt and tear-jerking line from Clark (Christopher Reeve) and one that carries so much weight in contrast especially when we’re so used to seeing the character masquerading as a goofy nerd (even if just to dissuade Lois and others from believing Clark and Superman are one and the same). It felt so real. This line was truly heartfelt and showed that even a Kryptonian can be just as human as those from earth.
Too bad this scene wasn't in the Donner Cut. It was so great. Made me cry when I first saw it. The ending of Superman II is about the emotional aftermath of Superman's relationship with Lois. It focuses on Supes' human side more than the original.
I love the Donner Cut, but I feel like him so staunchly refusing to use Lester's footage was to its detriment. I wouldn't have ended the movie with the time reversing beat. I would have stuck to most of the Lexter ending, with the diner scene, flag return, and then end it with this scene. I simply would have cut out the memory loss part and faded out as they kissed. Sure, we lose the "smile as he flies past the camera" shot but it would have been a more emotionally satisfying film and would have given us a better cut of the film that ends in a way that doesn't give us the same beat from the previous movie (even though I know it was originally intended for the sequel).
Well here's the thing. I agree with you somewhat. Not everything Lester shot was terrible. But, the Salkinds tasked Lester with removing as much of Donner's footage as possible. They would have scrapped the entire movie and started from scratch if they could have. But Gene Hackman refused to be in Superman II following Donner's termination. Fortunately Hackman let the Salkinds use the existing footage, unlike Marlon Brando who insisted he be removed completely from the film, lest the Salkinds pay him millions of dollars. So long story short, I think its fair that Donner would remove as much of Lester's scenes as possible. Revenge is sweet.
Kevin Eagle The problem is the Donner cut we have now is more like a blueprint than a real movie. Flawed editing, cheap digital effects, awkward transitions, and some moments that were better left out. We can never have a perfect version of Donner's Superman II because we can't just time travel back to 1979 and convince the Salkinds not to fire Donner. And I think just from watching some of the new footage, I don't think everyone had down to a T what they were doing yet.
Emotional scene. I certainly can relate to Lois Lane (Margot Kidder's character). They were PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER IN THIS MOVIE. YOU CAN SEE IT IN HIS EYES FOR HER. "Just say that you love me." (Margot Kidder as Lois Lane)
How old is this movie and this scene still makes me cry. I was never so moved by a superhero movie until the death of Wolverine this year. Cried like a baby then and with this scene. "I don't know what to say..." / "Just tell me that you love me". Yeah ... That's all you want.

@@looneyburgmusic oh wow that’s cool that you have that. I’m sure there are a few scenes that were deleted that later made it onto special edition sets.
There must have been 50 super hero movies since this one. And none have a single scene that matches the gravity of this scene. Even the simple shot of Clarke’s glasses going onto the table is moving. Amazing performances and direction.
RIP Margot. I luv U. Yes. I had crush on U and sincerely luv U. Feeling terrible hearing about your death. U will always be remembered. Such a nice woman U were.
Yes. This was probably taken off of TV, where they cut out the lines to make room for commercials. Clark: This may not be easy for you to hear now, but someday you'll... Lois: Clark, don't tell me that I'll meet somebody. You're kind of a tough act to follow, you know.
I think it is time to admit that Lester made some important contributions to the Superman movies. It is scene like this, where he gets great performances from both Kidder and Reeve. The same goes for the much derived "Pink Bear" reveal scene, where Superman slips and "accicently" puts his hand into the fireplace (it is heavily implied that Clark subconsciously did it on purpose, which basically matches and continues the scene in Superman the Movie, where he almost gave up his secret identity after his first flight with Lois. Some of the scenes with Clark and Lana in Superman III where amazing, too.
Personally, I wouldn’t have made Lois forget. This is an issue with both versions of the film tbh. Imagine what great drama we could’ve had in Part 3 with Lois dealing with the stress and depression that comes with knowing his identity. This scene is a tantalising hint of what we could’ve had. Personally, I would’ve had Clark leave silently, and the continued that into the next film...
I get what you mean but when you think about it it's probaly a good thing she forgotten because its puts her out of harms way when it comes to dealing with supervillains if i was a superhero i wouldn't give up my secret identity because it would not only yourself but your family safe.

I actually think Clark secretly gives Lois a heat vision lobotomy/spectral seizure to make her forget. That would make more sense and be more practical. He just needed the excuse of the kiss to get in close and go in directly through the eyes.
Though the amnesia kiss thing is kinda cheesy, I always thought this scene was well done. Even when I wasn't old enough to understand the dialog, you KNEW what was happening with them
Actually nothing is further from the truth. She loves Superman and She likes Clark. While Clark is a bit boring and a coward, he is a very nice guy someone you can talk to about anything. Hell during the times when she didn't know they were one and the same, she would vent to Clark about problems she has with Superman.
Margot Kiddar and Christopher Reeve were first and foremost good and decent people. Even though it is a movie, it is still possible to feel that it is two extraordinary people, a kind of innocence and beauty that is not so much found today. I pray that there will be a desire before our God to have their rest in heaven, and we will get to see them in the resurrection soon!
I prefer this ending, minus the amnesia kiss. It coincides with the balcony scene in the Donner version (and the ABC TV edit). Lois was crying all night, she's struggling with her emotions, she could barely work, she couldn't focus on anything...this is what a broken heart looks like. In the Donner version, Superman flies off, Lois is on the balcony in tears, she walks into her apartment heartbroken and depressed, somehow was able to block all of that out, and eagerly type out that big career advancing story about how Superman saved humanity from eternal domination. The Lester version makes more sense. Kinda wish they kept in Margot Kidder's "Up Up and Away" line in the TV version.
if you have someone u like or love tell them how u feel or u will lose ur chance and it may not get a second chance to tell them please don't hesitate just tell them whats in ur heart dont lose ur chance u will never get it back
margot kidder and christopher reeve were doing the audition with each other and test screening for the movie they developed a big crush on each other and when they were filming the movie they had so much chemistry on the set no one didnt stop it they let it happen but after the 4 movies he married his soulmate and she married someone else
Valeshia Lloyd No, it's called acting. Kidder was never into Reeve. She always thought he was too "preppy" for her. She always thought of Reeve as a brother. Her real crush was Harrison Ford. Reeve was married and had a son between Superman 1 & 2. However... Reeve DID get intimate with Jane Seymour on the set of "Somewhere in Time."
Yeah they had amazing chemistry! Although I don't think Margot Kidder had any feelings for Christopher Reeves rather than being friend. Don't know about Reeves..if he even had any feeling for her then it probably wouldn't be more than a silly crush..like lots of guy friends have on their female friends..but nothing serious. But yeah they had something special.
why didn't Superman just kiss Batman in BvS and make him forget about fighting. but then again, we would miss out on the powerful Martha scene. LOLOLLOL
You just said the g rated version of what I said. She loves Superman, likes Clark. She'd never love Clark if he were "just" Clark, but once she knows he's Superman she wants him. Superficial. Clark would always be in the friend zone. Superman gets an all access pass to that ass.
Lois and Clark here remind me of my beautiful beloved Alina and myself. I love Alina so much (and I'm pretty sure that she loves me, too); but she and I can not be together now. I try to keep it in the back of my mind; but sometimes I can't help but rail at the unfairness of it all--God, why do I love Alina so much?!!
Personally I don’t see why Clark and Lois couldn’t have had a relationship. Why they had to hide their romance by keeping Lois firmly as only Superman’s girlfriend.
The version of Superman 2 directed by Richard Donner has Marlon Brando reprising his role of Jor-El,Superman's Kryptonian father, but he wasn't in the version directed by Richard Lester, which Susannah York appeared in Reprising the role of Lara,Superman's Kryptonian mother in the theatrical version and in the special longer version that was seen on ABC-TV 4 times, the last time which was in 1988,during the year of Superman's 50th anniversary.
I wish the person I'm deeply in love with and have been for the past 7 years but cannot return the love in the same way could do what Superman does to Lois. Make me forget... :((
when superman kissed lois it was the last time they could b tgether and thats she said im jealous that she had to share him with the world with saving the world and people this reminds me of le femme nikita when section kept michael and nikita apart but no matter they were dtermind t b tgether
There's no Lois lane without Clark Kent/superman best love ever best couple ever I like the Richard Donner cut alternate ending to the original ending. Why did superman/Clark Kent have to wipe her mind Lois would of kept his secret to herself I would of worst feeling ever when. They did nothing but love each other :)
But reality check... all Superman had to do was 'say that he loved her' and sleep over PERMANENTLY rather than flying off after dropping Louise home. Solution solved !!
I've known these movies like the back of my hand since I was in my single digits, but I don't think I ever truly appreciated this scene until this point in my life, a couple of decades later. True, a fire fighter or police officer would have been a better analogy than doctor, maybe, but overall the writing and performances present a realistic, raw situation between two people in love. Aside from the amnesia kiss, this scene is one of the best Lois & Clark scenes from any of the four Reeve films.

This proves it... Superman's saliva has amnesia powers
if you have someone u like or love tell them how u feel or u will lose ur chance and it may not get a second chance to tell them please don't hesitate just tell them whats in ur heart dont lose ur chance u will never get it back
margot kidder and christopher reeve were doing the audition with each other and test screening for the movie they developed a big crush on each other and when they were filming the movie they had so much chemistry on the set no one didnt stop it they let it happen but after the 4 movies he married his soulmate and she married someone else
That's sad that they didn't become man & wife in real life.
RIP to both Chris and Margot 💔
why didn't Superman just kiss Batman in BvS and make him forget about fighting. but then again, we would miss out on the powerful Martha scene. LOLOLLOL
Marthaaaaaaaaa...
WHY DID YOU SAY THAT *KISS* What was I doing here?
Though in all seriousness ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND!? The last time someone erased Batman's memory he made a list of ways to defeat the Justice League.
You made my Mountain Dew come out of my nose
You just said the g rated version of what I said.
She loves Superman, likes Clark. She'd never love Clark if he were "just" Clark, but once she knows he's Superman she wants him. Superficial. Clark would always be in the friend zone. Superman gets an all access pass to that ass.
Except Clark Kent is the disguise, Superman (Kal-El) is the actual person. So Lois loves him for who he truly is.
@@moriellymoproblems7842 Modern interpretation is the exact opposite, and Lois does indeed fall in love with *Clark*.
Regular woman: im jealous of your entire office
Regular Guy: i dont know what to say,
Lois and Clark here remind me of my beautiful beloved Alina and myself. I love Alina so much (and I'm pretty sure that she loves me, too); but she and I can not be together now. I try to keep it in the back of my mind; but sometimes I can't help but rail at the unfairness of it all--God, why do I love Alina so much?!!
Or like being married to a kind, likable, thoughtful man with lovely children from before. Beautiful and excruciating and educational.
I feel ya Lois .... Im in this situation after a 21 year break up 💔
Personally I don’t see why Clark and Lois couldn’t have had a relationship. Why they had to hide their romance by keeping Lois firmly as only Superman’s girlfriend.
The best kiss ever
Christopher Reeve is a Great Superman. The other, Very bad.
Lois don't be like that.
Geezers couldn't you show the whole kiss & the after effects. One of my favorite scenes.
Thanks for uploading. 😎
I prefer this ending than the recut version which supports Superman Returns
I wish the person I'm deeply in love with and have been for the past 7 years but cannot return the love in the same way could do what Superman does to Lois. Make me forget... :((
😆
@@andyraphael fuck you
when superman kissed lois it was the last time they could b tgether and thats she said im jealous that she had to share him with the world with saving the world and people this reminds me of le femme nikita when section kept michael and nikita apart but no matter they were dtermind t b tgether
This is my favorite movie.🏆
Love conquers all :))
I LOVE...!!!!! THIS xxx
But reality check... all Superman had to do was 'say that he loved her' and sleep over PERMANENTLY rather than flying off after dropping Louise home. Solution solved !!
Favourite part of superman 2 the ending .
The chemistry is like no other between superman and Lois.
No matter how old it is.
Based from robot chicken,
DarkSeid biggest fear if Superman kiss him for making forgotten
What about doomsday
I've known these movies like the back of my hand since I was in my single digits, but I don't think I ever truly appreciated this scene until this point in my life, a couple of decades later. True, a fire fighter or police officer would have been a better analogy than doctor, maybe, but overall the writing and performances present a realistic, raw situation between two people in love. Aside from the amnesia kiss, this scene is one of the best Lois & Clark scenes from any of the four Reeve films.
No words can describe my feelings now...i really miss Superman(Christopher Reeves) but he not with us anymore...he gone and never come back again....
Compare the emotion in this scene with the marvel pap tipped on the heads of youngsters.
A kiss would wipe out her mind? I can't say this is the best story twist in movies.
I prefer the Richard Donnor cut of the movie, except for this scene. This scene on the RD cut would make the RD cut perfect IMO.
Ryan Backus agreed. Add this scene to the Donner cut and it would be a great sequel.
Wasn't there a line in this scene where he tried telling her that she would meet somebody else one day?
Yes it’s in this scene - but has been removed from this clip for some reason.....
Christopher Reeve. Cavill does a good job, but Reeve was the man!
