- In this video, we show how we fix a loose Tsuba.
We DO NOT recommend taking apart your Iaito, unless you are experienced and it is really necessary to do so.
If you are unsure always seek expert advice. - Спорт
You can always use traditional Japanese superglue
Excellent. Thank you. I need to do this.
Very good 🙂👍
Muito bom!
Does ninecircles offer these repairs if you bought your iaito from them ?
Yes, we do offer this repair for Iaito supplied by us. You can send us a message with information about your Iaito and request a quote for the repair: www.ninecircles.co.uk/contact-us/
Should I buy a Tsuba to make my Katana more unique to myself
If you do, we would advise finding one that matches the thickness of your current piece, or installation can become very tricky due to misalignment of the holes drilled in the Nakago (tang) and the Tsuka.
how much should iaito cost on average ???
370$-700$ USD.
Based on Tozando's website and messing around with various options, the cheapest options are around $400 and go up from there. Anything custom is closer to $1,000 or more.
Some people buy a cheapy thing like musashi or whatnot, and then dull the heck out the edge and flatten it. I can recommend going the unsharpened route, iaito or not, for I believe I would have no right ear and no toes lol.
so just go to harbor freight, get a bunch of tools and pound away?
Or just add another seppa. Why complicate things. Any thin bit of copper properly shaped will do.
That's an interesting point and I thought that when I had my repaired. If we think about an additional sepa shim would add more force along the horizontal plane, where are the tsuba is moving at right angles when it is loose. Adding another "sepa" would put more pressure on the habaki and then on the blade. Best as shown fix the tsuba which is the issue. That was how mine was repaired and its been perfect ever since. You make a good point and I did temporarily fix mine with fishing line wrapped inside the sepa but it only lasted 6 months.
Adding another Seppa would marginally increase the thickness of the assembly. Not only would it look a bit odd, it would misalign the holes drilled through the Nakago (tang) and the Tsuka. It's a small difference, but even a small change in that respect can cause issues for reassembly, and it only adds extra pressure to the Tsuba, as opposed to increasing it's grip on the Nakago according to this method and preventing reoccurrence of the issue in the future.
