Got the V back up and running so that’s the next vid, then we’re tearing down Ruby’s engine to see the damage... then replacing that 5.3 with another one and going back to get our 10 before we put a built trans in. How Cleetus builds go: Got a car! Seems clean and it was cheap. Turns out engine is garbage and just about the rest of car; WET SHOT! Well car barely survived our wet shot and it now knocks; TURBO AND 30 PSI! Car makes 700+ horsepower and runs "good enough." Take it the strip and go for 10s. Blew up the engine. All we are gunna do is buy another truck engine.......and a built transmission. Since we are building the tranny might aswell build the diff. Since the driveline can take 1000hp, lets make 1500hp. They didnt exactly say so but i think they were just kinda testing what this engine could take cuz the whole bottom end was stock and what part the did upgrade they were like yeah its an old part off leroy its fucked, but itll do. Lol

Last time I went to the track I caught second and the back bolts in my seat broke I came a hair of wrecking I wasn't use to how them new m/t's was gonna catch damn near broke my neck

oh shit, I didn't even think about. that's an expensive turbo too. just looked it up. Garrett turbos recommend between 40 to 45 psi for ball bearing turbos. not sure about sleeve bearings though.
@@6Star_Media Nah, audio from the engine stops a bit before that. Then he coasts a ways down the track. If you look at the turbo spinning, it appears to change direction(it's not, that's RPM slowing with the camera shutter speed), so that means the turbo is slowing down naturally and not just locking from oil starvation. Sounds like the main bearings and rod bearings did that though ;)
That blow by before it blew up, was because the motor broke a ring land due to not enough ring gap. Oil pressure issue was most likely due to poor maintenance in its previous life. Get You a Gen 4 5.3 gap the rings, .028/.025" top/Bottom and send it. If you want to turn it past 6800 frequently throw some ARP rod bolts in it. Dont worry about resizing the rods if installed ARP bolts on a few dozen sets for customers and never had to resize, mist change Ive seen was 2 thousands which is well within design tolerance. Gen 4 bottom end will hold 900 whp. Everything that turbo can throw at it. When you get serious have precision hook you up with a S480 with a 87mm turbine and T4 housing, I've seen 5.3s through down 1100 RWHP with them.

Tim how many Turbo LS's have you built? My WS6 has been boosted since 2003. The 6.0 was built then and is still in my car currently, been freshened up a few times over the years but has never let go, SCAT Rods, and Diamond Pistons. 80K miles on that short block and hundreds of passes putting down over 1000hp. Guess what the rings are gapped to? There's a a few clips of the car on my page. Combo has a S480 ETR and the gate has been pinned shut on multiple occasions. I tune it myself along with dozens of other combos N/A, nitrous ect. I build them too at the powerhouse auto machine and dyno located in Rockingham North Carolina I also tune and run them on the dyno. A few years ago a buddy of mine had a SBE LS1 rings gapped in a fox with a S484 car went 5 teens and did it for 3 years damn near every weekend when the drive train held together the well as thousands of street miles. Including rod runs, cruises ect. After 3 years he wanted to see if it would make it to a 4 second pass, we turned it up it went 5.04 with the gate shut. Then 5.02. So we tossed a 50 hp shot on it. It bent a rod and started knocking mid pass so he shut it down. He drove it off the track and on the trailer. Car has a Forged LS2 now that's 6 years old just freshened up for the first time after 25k miles and a few hundred passes. Gapped the same running a stainless top ring like my combo. So tell me again what shotty info I gave? I can tell you this once you push a SBE LS gen 3 or 4 to the 700 hp flywheel mark, and the rings aren't gapped they'll butt the rings and lift a ring a ring land. I've seen this personally on multiple occasions high mileage engine or not.
As me daddy used to say, "If You Can't Make It Good, At Least Make It Spectacular," and Ruby Red Vette certainly went out in spectacular fashion. I agree that a junkyard engine with a few hundred dollars in better parts (pistons, rods, an oil pump) and you'll have a fun car.
@@MichelLinschoten the 4.8 is the only one with a smaller stroke. Crankshaft is stronger and they are by far the cheapest. The powerband comes on later. They rev higher so the torque load on the engine is at a later RPM making it easier on the engine internals. Want me to keep going?
@@thewelderdude I was thinking the same thing. I was hoping they would go ahead and gap the rings when they had the motor out. It was doomed from the start from the amount of boost they were running on factory gap. Those engines are pretty damn reliable even with a ton of miles on them.
Please keep it as a budget 5.3 platform for us poor truck guys. I'm in the middle of doing a 5.3 Swap in my s10 blazer and this series is my absolute favorite
A i had a 5.3LS1 in a 2000 silverado and if you swap out the intake fir a super charger and dont turbo it throw some LS2 heads on it with longtube headers and a slightly bigger cam then i promise youll get between 600 700 HP and a mass of torque with E85 fuel and if you do all this it will be a very stable and proficient everyday driver as well i even had and it equipled with NOS but i never had the chance to dino it again before i sold it but good luck your looking at around 3 to 5 grand depending on if you get new or used parts just make sure if used you get all the paperwork and background info if possible.
I'm betting ring end gap was the reason..got hot and the ring ends touched and lifted up and destroyed the cylinder and piston...I think we all new it wasn't going to last long though..lol..and it put on a heck of a show..you guys are awesome and put out some of the most entertaining content on RUclips..

Cleetus you need the 6.0L Tougher block. Honestly a classic big block like a 427 out of an old dump truck!!! Has to be one out there with low miles, in those applications those trucks were detuned also UHAUL gas trucks Are 454!!! That be a very cool build a 454 out of a uhaul that's Fuel injected and would be an absolute torque monster

You honestly believe after sinking all that $$$ into this car and motor, they wouldn't even bother checking the oil level after the pressure dropped suddenly? Get real man. We can also safely assume that when an engine LOSES oil pressure, yet it's still full of oil, or nearly full.......SOMETHING is already starting to fail in that motor. WHY ELSE would the oil pressure suddenly drop from GREAT to only 5 psi. So NO........you DON'T know that simply "adding oil" would've been "the problem solver" to keep it running. Good grief man.

I’ve seen a lot of Sbe ls motors go 900+ on stock rod bolts. Idk what the rave about those are. Rod breaks before cap separates
Oil pressure issue could just as easily have been the o-ring on the pickup tube. Doesn't really matter at this point though.

TxJonathan that thing will be nasty. Just got done with a 74mm 5.3 in my silverado
A i had a 5.3LS1 in a 2000 silverado and if you swap out the intake fir a super charger and dont turbo it throw some LS2 heads on it with longtube headers and a slightly bigger cam then i promise youll get between 600 700 HP and a mass of torque with E85 fuel and if you do all this it will be a very stable and proficient everyday driver as well i even had and it equipled with NOS but i never had the chance to dino it again before i sold it but good luck your looking at around 3 to 5 grand depending on if you get new or used parts just make sure if used you get all the paperwork and background info if possible.

I'm betting ring end gap was the reason..got hot and the ring ends touched and lifted up and destroyed the cylinder and piston...I think we all new it wasn't going to last long though..lol..and it put on a heck of a show..you guys are awesome and put out some of the most entertaining content on RUclips..

You honestly believe after sinking all that $$$ into this car and motor, they wouldn't even bother checking the oil level after the pressure dropped suddenly? Get real man. We can also safely assume that when an engine LOSES oil pressure, yet it's still full of oil, or nearly full.......SOMETHING is already starting to fail in that motor. WHY ELSE would the oil pressure suddenly drop from GREAT to only 5 psi. So NO........you DON'T know that simply "adding oil" would've been "the problem solver" to keep it running. Good grief man.
