What a great idea Rob! Loved the buffalo drone footage at the beginning as well as the baboon and elephant footage from the water. Don’t worry about the pink colour- it should pass as an oddly shaped flamingo.
What a brilliant bit of kit! The pink may be garish, but it has the advantage of being easy to see from a distance. Of course, there will be times when you will need to camouflage it for various reasons, but the animals seem quite unperturbed by it. I also think that the genius of it is its circular platform that likely affords it greater stability than a conventional boat shape. You are quite the innovator and are clearly applying skills that are not directly related to filmmaking in order to 'get that shot'! Just brilliant.
I have decided to pause just as you recover floaty. The suspense from the disconnection & the violin in the background is is.... I have no words. So I'm saving it here to watch later with kids & wife on the TV with the lights off over supper. Can't wait to see the shots you got. Wanna witness those shots during the grand premier tonight! Too excited! Thank you Robert.
Absolutely awesome stuff Rob... animals seemed so chilled with it... you are now officially the ideas man! Merry Christmas to you and your family in Africa.
@@ridiculousthings4x4 😂 with all the issues I was having I didn't get a chance to put on the camo cover. I think a better solution will be to paint the whole thing.
Hi Rob, I assume you're using a flight controller to control the motors? They can get hot, maybe there needs to be an extractor fan or have flight controller on the outside. If not that then it may just be the current and wires being too small like you said. Great vid, thanks Matt
Thanks Matt. The connectors that melted were not carrying a lot of current. They were from the USB power to the RC Receiver. I think you are right - Receiver gets hot, high ambient temp, enclosed space, etc. I think I will first try new wires soldered to pins with heat shrink and see how that goes. If I still have issues I will add fan or move Receiver out of box
Floaty is alive!!
I was so relieved - I thought I'd gone to a lot of trouble for a few shots of baboons 🙂
Well done! Shots from Floaty are superb. What a champ!

Exceptional demonstration of advanced technological techniques, sir Rob. Jolly Good! (David Attenborough voice)

Thanks so much Andrew. Yeah, next I'm keen to try and add some camo, even some branches to break the shape and see if I can sneak up on waterbirds.
Ha ha ha this is phenomenal . Your ingenuity is incredible . Love it 👏👏👏
@@thebuffalooverlander thank you very much 😊
Beautiful footage 😁👏
What a fun experiment! I'm excited to see what else you'll create with this setup.

Very impressive! I just love the suitable African name you picked for it! 😂😂😂

@@IamN3O thanks so much Neo. Hope you enjoy it!
Excellent! Mind you, I'd probably have just strapped my drone on top!
@@smurgy99 thanks. You'd still need a gimbal to pan.

Great idea and well worth the result. Well done

At 15:15 it was clear that this is a winner and all that effort paid off with some amazing first shots.

The wildlife didn't even know it was there! Lucky you disguised it as something they see every day.

Cool design! I love the drone rescue cable, I'd be curious to see it in action
@@LW_Lapse yeah TBH I have not even tested it - just hoping it will work in an emergency 😬
Nice one champ.

Great video! What camera are you using for your vlogging?
@@RichardvanHaght thanks. Just moved from GoPro to the DJI Osmo Action 5. Am happy so far. Also used it for the time lapses.
When can we expect the Kickstarter campaign to be up? And the video where Floaty gets stuck in a river and you send Andy to fetch it?
@@kish_9 😂 if Floaty gets stuck somewhere I can't fly my drone, Andy's gonna have to swim.
