Philly’s Oldest Legacy Chinese Restaurant

- Yo, several friends from Philly insisted that Sang Kee is a must-visit in the City of Brotherly Love. This place is all about classic Cantonese dishes, with an emphasis on duck. Chef and owner Michael Chow brought roast duck to the city at a time when locals had to trek to NYC for it.
After surviving the Cultural Revolution in China, Michael, like many of his generation, escaped to Hong Kong in search of better opportunities. There, he mastered the art of roasting ducks. He eventually settled in Philly’s Chinatown in the ‘80s, founding what is now the city’s oldest single-family-operated Chinese restaurant.
Henry, a native Philadelphian, fulfilled every immigrant household’s dream-graduating from an Ivy League school (UPenn) and working for a successful startup (Uber Eats). But when he realized that his parents’ legacy might not survive, he stepped in, humbling himself by learning everything from cleaning tables to taking orders.
Sang Kee stands as a testament to Philly’s Chinese community and its contribution to the city’s fabric. Just as much as Philly is known for its cheesesteaks and hoagies, it should be celebrated for the roast meats served by Sang Kee.
Bros voice sounds like an Animated Black Uncle.. 😭😭
He does not sound like this in his old videos, I guess some people's voices get deeper and blacker as they get older
He’s a poser.
😂
Its cringe
Duck looks so
Bomb
Best Chinese in Philly
"I got it all" 🎉
They change the name thought it was joes Peking duck house
"lower level" You're father is amazing. He knows having a car, family, and home are something work for and be grateful for. As an immigrant, I respect that and him as that was my dream. It continues to be the dream of many others as well. Regardless of whether they are immigrants or not.
Whys he talking like that lmao what a clown
A car, house, and family.
Some people don't have all three.
To be fair, that second one has become really difficult in most places
@@kaipereirahernandez5196 true
@kaipereirahernandez5196 some of these immigrant families worked everyday non stop for decades. Probably no health insurance, holidays, paid vacations or sick time.
@@wed3k true, and back when they emigrated here, it was still possible to buy a home with a working class wage. Nowadays, the price of real estate has inflated to a point where no matter how long you work, it's just not feasible to buy a home
@@wed3k also, the fact that those are the conditions they had to live through should be a point of concern. Nobody should live like that to make a living
My poppop has been bringing me here my whole life. A favorite of both of ours. Its classic and always delicious!
Bro just speak in your normal tone/accent/voice
He is.
@@CapitalGainzz he’s not
@@Mjb121 prove it
@@CapitalGainzz listen burner account/friend/family member, everybody can tell the difference in the cadence and tone and attempted code switching between the different videos over time 😂
@@Mjb121 damn that was corny 😂 Anyway, a lot of people adopt accents and yes it’s going to sound weird and inconsistent. Y’all just hatin because dude is more fly than you. 😂
Sang Kee is the absolute best! I go to the one in University City, it’s nearly as good as fhe one in Chinatown.
Humble family. Love to see it. Food looks amazing!
He needs to quit his fake voice.
Link the video with his real voice 🤡
New subbie.🎉🎉🎉Amazing content.👍🏼
I'm not in Philly really all that often anymore but I would definitely check this place out when I go back! 🎉
Sang Kee is the best I spent a lot of college and working like going there. I haven't been back since the pandemic and ordering via Uber isn't the same.
Great feature and story from the family. 🔥🔥
This Guy is the asian version of prophet muscle 😂😂😂😂😂😂
His parents absolutely amazing
My good friends from the PHLX, Amelia and Tuna Joe, took me here in 1994. I am now married to a Hong Kong lady for 20 years.
Duck is one of my very favorite treats!

America
The land of the free, the immigrant, the orphan, the abandoned, the widowed, the forsaken, the forgotten.
In America you can grow from zero to hero, nothing to something!
May God bless and restore our once great Constitutional Republic !
It’s so cool to read about people eating at the places these videos feature, especially people who started going as kids when their parents brought them. It’s heartwarming to see how these restaurants are community hubs and the people who when there from when they were younger still love up the place today 💖
Looks delicious! Philly girl in PDX, but always Philly at heart! Our Chinatown was always bomb!
Hey brother recently discovered your channel and I love that you review places that deserve to be in business a hundred years from now, not just the next fast food tiktok trend. As a first generation immigrant and the grandson of a restaurant founder, I find myself relating to a lot of these stories and they are very touching to me. Keep it up ❤❤
This my favorite vid I’ve seen in a while 💙 vibes & energy too pure
I love the father for that last bit alone, humble dude and that for sure is the way 🇺🇸
Henry is a champion
Love the respect
Love you
I wonder how you manage to not poop your pants every time you squeeze so hard to make that voice
