We ultrasonically clean/rebuild carburetor on Briggs and Stratton 1022 E R 1696727 snow blower with 13A135-0002-F1 engine.
We diagnosed it as having a carburetor issue. Customer said it was leaking gas and we could not get it to start. We checked for spark and it seemed to have good compression.
The oil level was good also but it still would not start.
We clean the carburetor thoroughly and show how to fix the snowblower right.
Briggs & Stratton 1022E
Briggs & Stratton 1022ER
This same process is used for many different models of these snow engines of different horsepower
Always check the oil level before starting. Sometimes fuel can be mixed into the crankcase which will cause major issues if started like this.
If the carburetor is really bad, replace it instead of cleaning/rebuilding it.
You can purchase the carburetor part number 595785 at amzn.to/3GwWEz5
If you replace the carburetor, be sure to check and clean the new carburetor because the quality control is not good.
This does not matter if you are using OEM or aftermarket replacement. They should both be checked before installing. See our video on this also!

Thanks so much for this video!!! Having the same make and model, I followed your instructions to the T, cranked it up, and it started right away. That saved me and my immediate neighbors from shoveling over a half-foot of Minnesota snow.
Awesome job! Glad to help! Thanks for watching!!
Finally a great video on Briggs carb cleaning. Thanks a bunch.
Thank you for watching! Appreciate it!
Brilliant. Thanks from Swedish Lapland on saving me from digging!! Followed instructions and started as soon as I put it back together. Very clear instructions and good camera work.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!!
Your tutorial was very good, I cleaned as per your direction and it worked. Now I have low rpm. And no leaks
Great job! Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Amazing job! I wish you were living in town (Ottawa, Ontario) so that I could my snow thrower to your shop.
Thank you for watching!!
jeeze, you made that look like it was super easy, like Bruce Lee handling a white belt. WOP WOP WOP WOP DONE!
Haha! Thanks for watching!!
This video is excellent, very helpful and informative. I just wanted to say thank you helped me a lot and you are very good what you do and at making very helpful videos.
Thanks for watching we appreciate that!
Very well done video and thorough!
Thanks for your words and for watching!
Wow what an amazing job. I have the same blower and it wasn’t starting, I was gonna take it for repair. I just saved 170$ watching this video and my blower is working amazingly good
Great work! Thanks for watching!!
Great video. Mine works like new again! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Got my snowblower to start because of your video!!! Me... 🤣
Great job! Thanks for watching!
I've got two of these units and had to, using a zip tie, secure the spark plug wire away from the valve cover on both. When they run and vibrate the wire will turn on the plug and find its way over to arc on the valve cover and foul the plug. Aggravating.
I have only seen this a couple of times but definitely a posibility. Thanks for watching!
Qtip in a drill works great for needle seat cleaning.
That is a great idea! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
What is the point to having a key on a snowblower? It seems like it would be more of an annoyance than anything else. It isn’t like people would fire it up to steal it.
I think it is a safety thing so kids cannot start it accidentally. I'm sure there was a lawsuit there at some point. Thanks for watching!
Great tutorial. I followed the video step by step and the blower started right up. Only problem is, the blower sputters and I have to leave the choke between closed and open. Otherwise, it dies.
I would take it apart again and make sure all the jets are 100 percent clean and confirm the gaskets are in good shape. It is still partially clogged, has an air leak at one of the gaskets or the fuel is a bad quality. Thanks for watching!
Great video. My cousin has one of these he left it over winter. When u push the prime bubble it doesn't suck gas in. Can that be because of the carb. It was in the garage looks nice😂but don't start. I did alittle homework they disconnected these models the spinning teeth I. The front are metal not rubber. I told him not to throw it out. U think it can be fixed? Thanks
I would say probably a carburetor issue like most of them. If it starts on starting fluid then dies out, you found the issue
great video, l have the exact one (except my paddles have the metal pieces built in). Now l know the choke just pops off. My belt still hangs up/binds on the paddle pulley, it seems that pulley needs to be about 3/16 out from it's position to keep it ON that ** pulley
We have a video on this similar mod3l at ruclips.net/video/SegSLucRP8A/видео.html I am not sure what you mean by needs to be in a different place for the belt to be on
I put the new belt on and when it's running it tends to want to move to the outside of the paddle gear and at times gets in a bind between the paddle pulley and the surrounding case, l pop the outer cover off and it's starting to be a pain. Maybe moving the paddle pulley a little will help keep the belt from sliding off, or maybe bend the little tab(s) on the drive pulley and the tensioner one...l dunno
@@IndRepair
@@kevinkornman Everything should line up perfectly, if not in line it will walk itself off the pulleys. check that and tension first for sure
Thanks! Needed help taking it apart. Mine is leaking while it’s off. And the whole gas tank emptied out. Is that the same issue or something different?
Yeah, most definitely a carburetor issue. I would probably replace it if it leaked once
Thank you
👍
Thanks for watching!
Hopefully not too dumb of a question, but what do you use in the ultrasonic cleaner? Is it just a degreaser?
Not a dumb question at all I usually mention it. It is a solution of Simple Green and water. Thanks for watching!
This is the comment I was looking for!
About a 10% solution works just as well as anything. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! I need to replace that float bowl gasket, which one do you suggest? Thanks
I would recommend replacing it with a 951-11589 since they only sell the one for this in an entire kit. The MTD replacement will be the same. You can purchase it at amzn.to/48LtU1O Thanks for watching!
Thank You Sir
Thank you very much. Have the same machine , I'm unable to remove the fuel line of the carburetor. It's moving left to right by doesn't want to pop out up. 🤷🏼♂️
Gently pry or pull should come off if you work at it
@@IndRepair been on it for half an hour😂😂 . Taking a break now to cool off from frustration
Wow
What's the brand of the clip on spark tester you used? Where can I buy one? Thank you!l
Spark Check'r by Trillium www.trillww.com/contact send in a contact form or maybe call. They say they have a handful in stock.
Thank you. You are a wonderful technician. Specific and to the point. Great teacher.
Thank you I appreciate that!!
Need gasket got any idea where I can get them?
The one between the carburetor and plastic insulator?
Do you demand (OK highly recommend) that your customers use ethanol free gas?
We tell people to use it but most don't and that's how we keep the doors open!
5:27 you got one hell of a hitchhiker thumb.
Yeah i missed my calling I guess!!
H ow can I get new carb, require part number. Otherwise excellent video
595785 is the carburetor number for the snowblower shown. Thanks for watching!
That’s a lot of stuff to take out
It's not a whole lot compared to some but its definitely a process. Thanks for watching!
Where is the engine number on this machine?
Sticker just to the left of primer bulb. Scan the qr code on this one
@@IndRepair thank you. Unfortunately it takes me to a bad page 404
I had the same issue on Friday! Was thinking it was a fluke. I think the entire system may be down? Hmmm...not a good thing!!
The model, type and code is also stamped into the side of the crankcase
