Would you choose the bigger name school, that if you play decent there you can have an easier chance getting the the NBA. Or a smaller school you know you could dominate, but the spotlight is dimmer and the chance you're underrated is higher?
If you’re a 5 star recruit, you can go anywhere, so go where you’ll get the best development. If you’re a small guard that can shoot, Kentucky is probably a good fit, cause you can count on players like DJ Wagner underperforming.
If you can ball you can ball anywhere you'll eventually get exposed if you don't belong a lot of 5 stars got exposed in the league and a lot of underrated players have thrived
You don't see many Haitian ball players in the nba. Mario Elie, Olden Polynice, Samuel Dalambert, Nerlens Noel, Skai Labrossiere, Benedict Mathurin and Lou Dort.
@@silversoulkenhe’s still early in his career, and the pacers are using him as a 6th man instead of molding him to be the #2 by Haliburton which shows he’s not a priority
Before there was Isaiah Thomas, there was this man. A dominant PG from Cleveland State, a mid-major, that got them to the Big Dance. Back in the day, if you performed well in the tourney you got drafted. Period. He had good stats across the board but wasn't selected. Unfortunately, it was the first year the NBA reduced the draft to 2 rounds. Listed at 6'1" he was reportedly closer to 5'9". Maybe that's what scared teams away. They nicknamed him "Mouse" due to his diminutive size. But I still think this guy should've been in the league. What happened? JT, I need a video on this guy. Up next on Stunted Growth: Ken "Mouse" McFadden.
He just didnt have the toughness nor the right mentality to be a successful NBA Big Man...I remember watching One And Done which documented John Calipari the season Jamal and Skal were playing in Lexington in a specific scene i forgot who they were playing against but Cal was laying into Skal for not showing effort rebounding in Cals words he said "He doesnt give a s@$t about winning or he would have grabbed that ball" And now it really says alot about Skals career....a dude just happy being good never wanting really to be great and that's okay
Me and my brother stopped at a crosswalk to let pedestrians cross at the golden 1 center one time after a game. We saw Skal walking with his dad and yelled over “Hey Skal! Good game.” (He had just gotten whooped by an up and coming Giannis). He just looked at us like we were stupid and walked off. 😂 I’ll never forget that.
Some guys need more than one year. Everyone assumes Kentucky one and done’s are can’t miss prospects which yes most probably are but he even knew he wasn’t going to be a lottery pick. Should’ve stayed or transferred
Wagner was a bad comparison kid has gotten every opportunity to succeed. Including starting over Dillingham who is clearly by far the better player and still stunk it up..
I’ve been saying this forever and people called me a hater. Cal holds players back but hypes up the players that don’t make it past the cracks because they’re just so talented. For every John Wall, there’s 10 Tyler Ulis, Isaiah Briscoe, and Archie Goodwin. Cal gets credit for Devin Booker who became who he is through his own work but yet we can’t blame him for the Harrison twins. Every player that turns out to be a stud, it’s Coach Cal who developed them. Everyone who fails or has their potential stunted, it’s their fault and Cal has nothing to do with that.
Two things Overhyping high school players by the media (professional or amateur) Going to coaches that have a reputation to maintain and stick to a certain system
This video reminded me of a player you should do next: Billy Preston. He was another athletic, skilled big man who I think had about 30 D1 offers in high school. To my knowledge, he ended up never playing in an NBA game! Would love to see a deep dive on him
Not a KU fan, specifically, but I'm a big fan of following prospects develop from high school to the NBA. Billy Preston was on e of those guys who seemed to have a new video made about him every other day@@luckyluciano6552
Skal was never a basketball player. He was a tall guy that happened to play basketball. He had his struggles due to his lack of competitive spirit. But in the end, he was able to help his family and provide a nice living for himself. I would like to think that should be the goal of all professional athletes. I hope he finds his way back into the league.
If you just said all that.... knowing it's someone out there that lives and breathes basketball and wants that spot...why would you hope this guy finds his way back to the NBA just to take a spot another youngster could have....🤔
This is the NBA. This isn't City League Basketball where everybody gets a turn.🙄They don't hand out positions just to do it. If he's taking someone's spot it's because he earned it. If he works really hard, a man with those natural gifts could be a star. What a Helluva story that would be.@@cuttycut2324
There’s something to be said for self responsibility. A guy that lacks competitiveness and toughness probably wouldn’t have turned out better by transferring to a less competitive school. At most you get like an Anthony Bennett situation where he dominates mid majors but fails in nba,

We never really talk about the number of top quality high school players that chose Kentucky, that didn't make it to the NBA. There are more players that didn't make it, than the ones that did make it. ( Some things are just not guaranteed.)
Looks like if hes got any desire to improve at all a team could use him as a back up big kinda in the sorta role Luke Kornet used to be used in. Strictly an outside shooter / shot blocker. Now look at Kornet , with the celtics hes actually improved his toughness, rebounding, shotblocking , efficiency and interior presence significantly. Its funny because Kornet came into the NBA skinny and mainly a 3pt shooter who was skinny & not very physical. Now he rarely shoots threes and most of his buckets are dunks or putbacks....very physical and smothering 7'2 guy. Kornet is also 28 - 29 I believe.
I don't think he could've average 20 and 10 in any major college program and don't think there was much demand for 6"11 mid-range face shooters without 3 point range who weren't elite at it. Add to that he was soft both mentally and physically. So I don't think the story would've turned out much different regardless of what School he went to.
Fun Fact: I went to high school with his legal guardians. The Hamilton's, his adoptive mom and I took a few classes together. Her name is Shaneka......Olive Branch High school.
Skal was better than we seen. He was never going to be a 20/10 guy not at a top school like Baylor or UT which are still top programs. He plays just like trey lyles with less post game. Who also went to Kentucky AND has played i think 2 stints with the kings
I think skal should of went to another school. But he was not averaging 20 and 10 I say with his skill set more like 12 and 6 which is good but his biggest issue was he was to soft and got pushed around. Even when he was able to get into his spots for his style he was pushed around.
No disrespect but he was terrible I use to watch Kentucky games in disbelief I wasn’t surprised he wasn’t good in the nba this was when i learned nba takes players off potential instead of if they can actually play

He should have played at Memphis. He was a local celebrity here and would have been the main focal point of the team

Yet another testament to Cal's inability to coach and develop his players. He doesn't make time to see a player reach their potential
