This is such an untapped market in American sports. AFCON too. It would be a gigantic success too, groundbreaking. People make mistakes, but people with your talent and others like Football Pharaoh (check him out if you are an international football freak like me), would take the love of football to the next level.
The brazilian coverage of the Asian Cup was sensational. Comentators were clearly interested, knew every backstory and context and did an amazing job at informing the public. They also had a Japanese-Brazilian, who is already one of the best commentators ESPN Brasil has, dedicated to the tournament.
Nico Cantor, the guy wearing the Brentford jersey, is the son of Andres Cantor… who is one of the most iconic sports commentators of the Spanish language. This is more proof that he’s never gonna be as great as his father.

Because for some strange reason Americans never got to like football (soccer) in spite of having the world's two greatest players (Pelé and Messi) playing in the USA....No way....they like baseball, their own football (rugby) and basketball...they'll never become really interested in our football.
Nah man WW2 is probably the most studied time in history, including American history so yeah they should know some of this stuff. The horrific things Imperial Japan did is pretty common knowledge.
You can actually tell Nico(Brentford jersey) is literally looking up Iraq's Wikipedia page on his iPad while they’re talking. I'm pretty familiar with the national team page layouts, you can see him say they reached the World Cup in 1986 while looking at the iPad and says they lost all three (easily identifiable on the competition record tables) then you can see his finger scrolling down while the other hosts are declaring it as the biggest win in Iraq history and the table immediately below it has their AFC Asian Cup record and he says hold up at the end.

I moved from the UK to US in 1983, when there was basically zero coverage of football on US TV. The 1984 WC was my first intro to American commentators and I basically muted the sound, because it was so dumbed down. The commentary has gotten better, but I still much prefer UK commentary because I know they do their homework and are well versed on the teams. CBS does a great show on CBS.

American broadcasts over football hurt me to watch when compared to European ones. I watch American Football and I enjoy those broadcasts, but as soon as a sport isn’t “American” the quality goes out the door in my opinion
The fact that I have a degree in Sports Communications and a masters in Sports Management. I’ve studied sport, in particular football, all over the world and I still can’t get a look from an American sports media company to do football work. Genuinely pains me watching things like this.
Have you approached every football club of all divisions? A friend of mine did just that after getting an journalism degree. Respectfully, the causal fan isn’t following the Asian Cup. I’ve heard more about AFCON than the Asian cup anywhere. Edit: UK based TalkSPORT as far as I can tell hasn’t even mentioned it.
What difference does that make? Silly comment. These people are paid to make these segments and they seem like a bunch of idiots who only just discovered the continent of Asia exists. The casual fan isn't expected to know any of this, sure, because the Asian Cup isn't a super popular tournament. Many of my Korean and Australian friends barely care about this tournament either. Says who, I rather enjoy watching football with American commentators than British ones, Brits are condescending towards the other leagues and really monotone, whilst Americans are more into the game and the way they commentate its like making u feel ur present at the game, tehy bring that fan atmosphere to the screens
The fact that back in 2022 when US announced a friendly vs Japan and a bunch of Americans were saying on twitter that they thought Japanese players were rice farmers kinda says a lot about how much they care about anything that didn't happen in the US.

It is not one of the greatest stories in world soccer bro 😂😂
Who's here just after watching Maqwell's stream, suffering and feeling the pain of deafet from watching Vietnam lose to Iraq
I think a show covering the Asian Cup for a western audience SHOULD have an uninformed guy that asks the questions. I’m more concerned that literally NO ONE actually had an answer??? Like how???
yeah exactly!! the guy asking questions is for an uninformed audience but that only works if they have some answers 😭
What do u mean by western audience like European and american ones?
@@ERICTENHAG56 anything outside of the Asian cup in this case tbh
Feels like CBS went to a random pub, grabbed whoever they could find and said “Talk about this for 30 minutes.”

@@BenAkalonu He knew a guy who knew a guy to get him a job
This is such an untapped market in American sports. AFCON too. It would be a gigantic success too, groundbreaking. People make mistakes, but people with your talent and others like Football Pharaoh (check him out if you are an international football freak like me), would take the love of football to the next level.
The brazilian coverage of the Asian Cup was sensational. Comentators were clearly interested, knew every backstory and context and did an amazing job at informing the public. They also had a Japanese-Brazilian, who is already one of the best commentators ESPN Brasil has, dedicated to the tournament.
Meanwhile, they have an AFCON correspondent and the AFCON isn’t on Paramount+ smh
The Asian cup is on paramount plus so is the AFC champions league
Nico Cantor, the guy wearing the Brentford jersey, is the son of Andres Cantor… who is one of the most iconic sports commentators of the Spanish language. This is more proof that he’s never gonna be as great as his father.
Shout out to the guy who actually knows ball.
That's Nico Cantor, Andres's son.
Knows ball? Fucks ball?
Glad you like Simon Hill. He' s Australia's best commentator and truly champions the sport and the local league here. We're lucky to have him.
oh my gosh, i never thought anyone would care to notice! so glad i’m not alone in feeling this way. i watched a few shows during the women’s world cup. as a country with such a dominant history in women’s football, you’d think these executives would platform people who know what they’re talking about
I was living in a world of ignorant bliss before this, I’m so glad I don’t regularly check out morning footy. They literally treat their jobs like it’s a casual podcast between friends. Casual can be fine if you have some balance. I think the TIFO football podcast was the peak of football content
never have I laughed so much at Max suffering “watching” this football coverage from CBS 😂
You'd think they could find at least ONE player who played in, like, half of an Asian Cup tournament before
American commentary: what are these countries?
what are countries? are status countries?
Maqwell is doing everything he can to avoid talking about Vietnam in the Asian cup
NGL, I do kinda love it when staggering stupidity reduces Maqwell to an incoherent rage for our entertainment.
Reminded me of that podcast which called Mbappe "Mgappe"
And him, Messi and Nedermeyer are all teammates.......in the Premiere League.
(how awesome would that have been tho???)
"Is that a rivalry?"
That gave me physical pain.
I know Nico was internally screaming when hearing his colleagues talk.
Nico just waiting till it's ready for "fútbol de primera" with his dad in Spanish. He's the best!
Comeback stronger for Vietnam. If Indonesia didn't qualify for R16, that's okay Maxwell let we unite again for supporting USMNT for Copa America success.. Greetings from US Soccer fan from Indonesia that supported Vietnam and USA at FIFA Women's World Cup last year. 🇻🇳🇺🇲🇮🇩
I couldn't expect less from the morning footy to talk about Asian cup tournament... there's one time Charlie Davies keeps on telling that American coaches/managers always being disrespect in Europe and then proceed to be shut down by Thierry Henry lmao
And Clint Dempsey agreed with Henry.
Victim complex
This kind of stuff really hurts me to my core because ive always wanted to be a commentator/pundit, to get paid to talk about the game i love, and instead i have to watch THIS as the people who are supposed "professionals"

goes to show how bad your nations football talk shows are when most average football fans could do a better job than these pundits.
The worst part is that they will get away with it
People watching would definitely give them some stick but that’s it

you can just feel that these people want to switch to talking about european football. and it would still suck with lots of broken sentences, weird silences, constant questioning whether something is correct and utter lies. its not just that these people did not do their homework, they just dont know how to talk on the big screen without a dedicated script.
Because for some strange reason Americans never got to like football (soccer) in spite of having the world's two greatest players (Pelé and Messi) playing in the USA....No way....they like baseball, their own football (rugby) and basketball...they'll never become really interested in our football.
You can tell these guys that England's most successful team are Manchester Rovers and they'd probably believe you.

I’ve only ever heard American commentary over sports like the NBA and NFL, so I guess the eccentricity is better suited for those sports
Actually, imo American sports commentary is deteriorating (pretty rapidly) across the board, even in sports like the nba and nfl
Not anymore. Honestly most people have just moved here on youtube where you can find content about your team from a fan of said team.

As a big basketball fan as well, stuff like this happens all the time in Inside the NBA, the most popular nba pregame show
But at least with inside the nba, they have one main guy that coordinates the show and knows every detail
The knowledge of these Americans about how good a team is at playing soccer (or more accurately, football) depends on 1. How much do they know about that country and 2. How rich that country is.
I mean, "Is this Iraq's biggest win?" Lmao

I moved from the UK to US in 1983, when there was basically zero coverage of football on US TV. The 1984 WC was my first intro to American commentators and I basically muted the sound, because it was so dumbed down. The commentary has gotten better, but I still much prefer UK commentary because I know they do their homework and are well versed on the teams. CBS does a great show on CBS.
Sorry, I meant 1986 WC.
The arrogance of that show. If. I know Asia has not been taking seriously be the west in a long time but god damn. If you dont know anything about the tournament, you shouldnt be the ones talking about it. Im not even american but that have me a level of embarrassing i didnt know was possible
He got a 3 month stint at Championship side and eventually got a job at Man City. As a result applied and got offers st Sky, BBC and ITV Sport. It took about 18 months from graduation.
I'd like to know if those people could even point out the coutries mentioned on a map. Probably not.
But they know that there is something between Korea and Japan (and if you didn't, that doesn't make it better, it just confirms that you as an individual are an idiot)
Probably because theres only a few well known Premier League players involved in the Asian Cup.
What an embarrassment!!! Yes, it is a secondary tourney at this moment... but there is NO excuse for exterme lack of preparation from this large network.
Maqwell gives us a history lesson, quite rightfully as a therapy session in order to avoid talking about Vietnam 😭
Says who, I rather enjoy watching football with American commentators than British ones, Brits are condescending towards the other leagues and really monotone, whilst Americans are more into the game and the way they commentate its like making u feel ur present at the game, tehy bring that fan atmosphere to the screens
American commentary is something I will never listen too. I rather listen to British commentary.
Brits are diehard supporters of Football. Ofc anyone will choose them over Americans
As someone who has watched the aleague with Simon Hills commentary for many years its great to see him get recognition!
he's so underrated !!!
The fact that back in 2022 when US announced a friendly vs Japan and a bunch of Americans were saying on twitter that they thought Japanese players were rice farmers kinda says a lot about how much they care about anything that didn't happen in the US.
I literally just read about comfort women less than two weeks ago. Great work man. Keep it up!
First time I've seen one of your videos, but I could feel your pain. That "show" was breathtaking in how embarrassing it was. My cringe was only lessened by the sympathy I had for your torment.
They didn’t only fail to find the right experts, they didn’t find any!
Embarrassed as an OCSC fan that that man represents our fan base. We have a very dedicated fan base for such a small club, especially as a USL club.
How does CBS go from The Champion’s League show to the Morning Shitty
I can’t believe you brought up comfort women in a conversation about soccer. It’s 2024. No one brings up the holocaust when Germany plays, or the Atomic bomb or napalm bombing when the US plays. But Japan, oh no we have to bring up history because it’s the only thing we’ve been taught.
The sins of your grandfathers are not for yours to carry. So I totally agree with you. Why should the current generation must be held responsible for something that happen way before they was born? Why should the media fan up all the flames from the past towards the current and future generations?
@@wanr5701 yes, but they were not even “sins”. It was the age of empires. Everybody who could went around the world conquering, looting, and murdering. And those who couldn’t were conquered, looted, and murdered. Why should it have been different for Japan?
@@1969ES175 i can only think that they are so insecure and having lots of inferiority complex within them, that they need to be reminded constantly about the past that the world is against them. Too bad.
These kinds of matters are brought all the time in soccer, if you doubt just look at the Balkan scene, no one brings holocaust when Germany plays, maybe is because Germany went through a long and painful process of getting rid of the semblance of nazism that could possibly exist in the country and constantly apologizes for the holocaust. Japan not so much.
