those cat converters, if that honey comb breaks loose or in pieces it can totally clog it up and turn it bright red and burn your vehicle up, so if you ever get some muffler work done, always check to see if any is loose inside, for sure!!!
You most definitely should always follow the recommendations on maintenance. Including changing your transmission fluid. Your fluid will break down and does need to be replaced.
Ford has a TSB regarding the water leaks...the drains are only the start of the issue. On my o5 had to repair the seals around the cowl clips and replace the seals under the top door trim. I heard replacing the timing chain tensioners every 60k miles will help. You also missed the park brake lines seizing up. Also the poor venting on the fuel tank TSB issued), at many gas pumps I have to hold the nozzle at 90 to 180 degrees so it will fill. The water leaks, tank vent and brake lines were corrected in later models.
I addressed the water leak problem on my 2006 back in 2014 after tons of water was getting into the car. I've been driving it without the carpet since 2011. I even pulled the fender off to try to find the source of the leak. Just as you said, the source of the leak were the holes for the cowl clips. I hadn't seen any info regarding that back when I worked on it. That was such an annoying problem to troubleshoot and I was able to live with the water coming in for years as I would drain it as needed, but it finally got to a point where the amount of water getting in was too much.
I believe I might have a clogged converter. I replaced all 4 o2 sensors but I still get no power sometimes and 3 codes. P0135, p0141, & p0161. I do know it use to have codes that had to do with a gas cap and maybe a gas sensor. Idk what to do to find or fix the current issue.
@@gtdaddy0537 That isn't a good solution. Not to be some liberal environmentalist because I'm not, but the one good regulation the EPA put out was cat converters. You are poisoning everyone behind you. I'm not saying this as someone perfect. I drove old cars like this that both never came with them to start with, and that were taken off afterwards.
I had the problem with the gas cap. On the dashboard it showed that was the problem so I got a new gas cap replaced it, and the light on the dash has never gone off.😡
My 2008 ford mustang when I got it had its inside door panels fallen out. I looked it up and realized it was a common problem. I didn’t have the old leather ones when I got the car so I ordered some plastic ones online and tried to remove as much of the previous adhesive as possible. Then I applied new adhesive to the new ones and put them on there and it’s not exactly perfect but 1000% better than it was before. I currently face a P0422 code or small Evap emission problems which I haven’t looked into that much 😅. If anyone has had similar problems with this issue let me know .
Biggest issues with these cars are the manuals chewing threw third gear. Paint flaking on the sides of the rear window exposing bear metal. AC accumulator rotting because of trapped water in its housing. Flaking paint on hood and sticking sparkplugs prior to head redesign in early 08. Also the plastic eyelet for the clutch master cylinder breaking off.
From looking online, the V6 model SEEMS to be more prone to throttle body failure. Though it appears (again, from online research) that most affected cars had failures before the 60,000 mile mark. If you have this model of Mustang (04-10) there is a good chance the throttle body has been replaced. Timing chains, if the car is driven hard, along with the guides, are maybe as long lasting with either engine except one of the chains on the V6 can only be accessed with the engine out of the car. (The V6 engine is a design that dates back to the late 60s-early 70s and was not originally an overhead cam design.) I have a 06 V6 Mustang and an 09 Crown Victoria...the Crown has near 180,000 miles on it and the timing chain is original. The Mustang gets driven a few hundred miles a month, with 47,000 miles on it I am hoping that I never have a chain failure. Oddly, there was no mention in this video, though other videos have mentioned it, the thermostat housing in the V6 is a 2 piece PLASTIC item that can fail over time. It's located under the throttle body.
@@willhecker5742 Just bought an 06 v6, thermostat housing is toast. New metal one on the way. And it came with almost all the parts needed to change the whole clutch plate system. Is it a real concern with Timing Chains and automatic Transmissions? Im considering of buying a late 2008 or 2009 with the 4,6 V8 but that makes me hesitate cause would be quite expensive to fix. I thought spitting or breaking spark plugs are the main Problem with that engine and only until midth of 2008.

pretty solid, but i think you forgot one of the biggest issues that many of these cars had, and the was the alternator going bad very often. had to replace mine twice on my V6 and my friend the same on his GT
@ Logan: I have a V6 Mustang and a V8 Crown Victoria, haven't had to replace an alternator on either. The Crown Victoria has 180,000 on it and the Mustang only 47,000. I will keep my fingers crossed. BTW, online research tells me that alternators from some parts suppliers are crap, sometimes right out of the box.

I guess I've made a big "mistake" by looking for common issues on 2011-on Mustangs, especially V6 Mustangs. I've found too many scary ones everywhere aside from those stated here and now I'm... scared to buy a red one I've just found. It looks pretty clean and well taken care of with 93k miles on it, but now I can't stop thinking: what this nice V6 Mustang would have in store for me?
@@SentinelEx @Sentinel Ex I bought a 2006 mustang for 2150 (he was selling it for 2700 but i talked him down) and it had 208000 miles on it and now its approaching 216000 and let me tell you it ran like a damn charm for me for about a solid year and a half. Only problems was the eyelet on the master cyclinder (manual transmission) that is attached to the rod snapped in half. Thermostat malfunction & I replaced that as well. Then the master cyclinder rod itself snapped in half. Mind you these are all very minor issues. I do need a new radiator however. But for a 15 year old car v6 that costed me 2150 cash thats not bad i mean parts do wear out. Mustangs are very reliable cars. Hope everything works out for you though bud

That’s an easy fix. There’s a drainage hole near the cabin filter that gets clogged up over time. There are some videos on how to fix it and it doesn’t take about 10 minutes.
ive had nothing but bad luck with my v6 thankfully i got it for free from my brother since he hadent driven the car for a couple of years because of the transmission, it was a rental and has had 7 owners, my trans slips, my converters broke, it stalls sometimes when it slips gears, somethings wrong with my horn i just havent cared to diagnose it yet, pretty sure my head gasket is blown or nobody ever did a coolant flush cause my coolant was super brown and had "mud" in it. it also idles fairly rough so my timing chain might have skipped a tooth, a previous owner stripped the head for the first cylinder spark plug, there was water getting in through the firewall, a lot of wires were chewed by mice or something, and other general maintenance stuff like turning my rotors and replacing brake pads, outer tie rods, etc.. it seems like nobody ever did anything to this car before i got my hands on it. ive been slowly but surely fixing it cause i enjoy driving the car and it makes for a good project car. the hardest part is getting the money.......... dont even get my started on the after market security system that either the rental company or a previous owner put in the car, for me to take it all out i need to rip out the entire dash which i really dont wanna do. i know not all 2006 v6 mustangs are like this i just happened to get the bottom of the barrel

So is it normal for the S197 to be a little loud on cold start, but get quiet once it is warmed up? I bought one of these and noticed there is a hole in the exhaust around near the muffler, when you start it, it is a little loud, and once it warms up, it becomes quiet. I do not know if this is a Ford thing, or the cat maybe bad or becoming clogged. I am use to owning GM cars, cold start or warmed up, it they are loud, they stay that way regardless.
There's a tiny hole in the tip I believe for water, but that's it. The muffler shouldn't have one. The car will start a bit loud as the RPM's usually hover at 1300-1500 when it's cold, but then drop to 1000 before finally warming up and hitting the 7-800 mark. Give or take. You could have an exhaust leak if it doesn't sound like a crisp, smooth tone.

The timing chain isn't likely to jump. They get loose but not jump. If it actually jumps, you're the one that was driving it with a rattle so bad you caused the damage yourself. You guys forgot the most common issue. The carbon filter stops up, and you can't get your tank full. The gas pump shuts off from backpressure in the tank.
This was the last generation with a solid rear axle. Since then, it’s been replaced by an independent suspension. In my opinion, Ford should’ve offered both options rather than only offer the newer style.
The real problem is that people beat the crap out of these cars, which, I understand because it’s a mustang not an old lady car. But if you find one that wasn’t beat, and maintain it properly, it will last.

I have 07 with 140k miles only issue i have had is a water pump go out, had it 3 years now and I bought it used from a small lot.
Just replaced mine last week had the car for 8 years now
sounds like a solid car. Makes me even happier i just bought my 2013 v6 Mustang recently (low mileage 96,000 miles)
those cat converters, if that honey comb breaks loose or in pieces it can totally clog it up and turn it bright red and burn your vehicle up, so if you ever get some muffler work done, always check to see if any is loose inside, for sure!!!
Props to whoever picked the background music. It slaps
+Kyore Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
You most definitely should always follow the recommendations on maintenance. Including changing your transmission fluid. Your fluid will break down and does need to be replaced.
Parking break and door cover inserts are what are most common
the door cover inserts are killing me rn.
+Clint Jonsson Thanks for the feedback!
I have the gas problem how do you over come it I never had that issue until recently I thought it was my gas filter
Replace the catalytic converter.
Good thing I'm full catless and muffler deletes on my 05 gt
no check engine?
@@alejandrofarias7943 no I'm tuned and have rear cats tuned out
@@gtdaddy0537 That isn't a good solution. Not to be some liberal environmentalist because I'm not, but the one good regulation the EPA put out was cat converters. You are poisoning everyone behind you. I'm not saying this as someone perfect. I drove old cars like this that both never came with them to start with, and that were taken off afterwards.
Check Fuel Fill Inlet - turned out not to be the fuel fill inlet at all but it was the purge valve. Fixed for $25.
+sugarkang Thanks for the feedback!
I had the same issue and after I replaced the purge valve the code came in , it’s the gas filler neck
I had the problem with the gas cap. On the dashboard it showed that was the problem so I got a new gas cap replaced it, and the light on the dash has never gone off.😡
Mine has many of those symptoms but no check engine light. I think the Ford dealership didn't want to cover it under warranty so they lied to me.
What about the fact that you can't refuel them without putting the nozzle upsidedown? It seems everyone has that problem.
exactly going thru that now takes 20 minutes to fuel
mine only does that sometimes......
If I put the nozzle in at around a 30 to 40 degree angle then Push down so the handle is straight it usually works for me
I lift mine up more and for some reason it helps.
I guess I've been lucky; I only have to turn it sideways, and only about 25 percent of the time.
I have an 07 Mustang convertible GT, have for 2 yrs with no issues yet with 102,000klms, I Love my car and only drive it in the summer.
The transmission problems is that for auto only or manual transmission as well?
Wow a simple straight to business informative video , thanks guys 😄👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Biggest issues with these cars are the manuals chewing threw third gear. Paint flaking on the sides of the rear window exposing bear metal. AC accumulator rotting because of trapped water in its housing. Flaking paint on hood and sticking sparkplugs prior to head redesign in early 08. Also the plastic eyelet for the clutch master cylinder breaking off.
Are these specific to the v6 model shown? Any issues that you see on the GT but not on the V6?
From looking online, the V6 model SEEMS to be more prone to throttle body failure. Though it appears (again, from online research) that most affected cars had failures before the 60,000 mile mark. If you have this model of Mustang (04-10) there is a good chance the throttle body has been replaced.
Timing chains, if the car is driven hard, along with the guides, are maybe as long lasting with either engine except one of the chains on the V6 can only be accessed with the engine out of the car. (The V6 engine is a design that dates back to the late 60s-early 70s and was not originally an overhead cam design.)
I have a 06 V6 Mustang and an 09 Crown Victoria...the Crown has near 180,000 miles on it and the timing chain is original.
I have a 2005 v6 mustang and my throttle body went out on me at 43,000 miles.
@@willhecker5742 I have 06 v6 my throttle body replaced at 48,000.
@@willhecker5742 Just bought an 06 v6, thermostat housing is toast. New metal one on the way. And it came with almost all the parts needed to change the whole clutch plate system. Flywheel, clutch plate, pressure plate, slave cylinder, pilot bearing. Needed to buy my own rear main seal. Seems to have a perfectly running engine.
Automatic transmissions have problems. I've been looking to buy that type of car and manual transmission seem the best, at least for V8 4.6 engine
Timing Chain issues are for the V6, the V8 4.6 engines are solid

I realize everything can’t be listed. But surprised to see thermostat housing didn’t make the list.
For mine so far it has been the alternator it’s had 2 of them and another on the way but will buy the pricey one
pretty solid, but i think you forgot one of the biggest issues that many of these cars had, and the was the alternator going bad very often. had to replace mine twice on my V6 and my friend the same on his GT
+Logan Thanks for the feedback!
@ Logan:
I have a V6 Mustang and a V8 Crown Victoria, haven't had to replace an alternator on either. The Crown Victoria has 180,000 on it and the Mustang only 47,000.
I will keep my fingers crossed.
BTW, online research tells me that alternators from some parts suppliers are crap, sometimes right out of the box.
Literally changing mine as we speak,I’m taking 5😂😂
With my 05 I had to get it changed twice within 2-3 years I’ve had her for 6 years now
my alternator went out at 60k miles
dont automaticly asume your mass air flow sensor is bad i had the same codes pop up on my 05 mustang i got some mass airflow cleaner cleaned it and the code never poped up again
Very helpful. I had a problem with my timing chain !! And had to replace
Yay, more ammo for bargaining with sellers! >:)
Currently looking at getting an '05 to '08, so all the ammo I can use to bring prices down is appreciated.
Tbh these mustangs really have next to no issues with them. And the stuff that does go bad or wear down is super easy to fix!
I'm kinda on the same boat. I found a nice red one but it has 160k miles on it. I'm just worried the previous owner might have ran the shit out of it.

I just found a nice red and black one with suspension brakes and axels modified and I was getting my other car serviced, got it for a steal only 70k ‘07 traded my old car & just bought that one. I’m telling you just go with your gut if you really like it and it’s got good carfax, I been loving mine since I first seen it
Had to replace my calibers on front, brake rotors, brake pads themselves twice, had to fix tie rod ends. All on base 05. Trying my best to keep it strong tho, had it for 5-6 yrs.
Thanks. I'm just getting to know this year. I didn't know the throttle body had a motor, thank you.
didnt show the flooding problem that the 05-09 mustangs have
they fixed that in 07.
Check Charging System too!!😱
going thru that now not to add the pumping gas bs
I'd say #1 is water leaks from door seals and the front of the car by the bottom of windshield.
+Gerardo Cruz Thanks for the feedback!
That’s an easy fix. There’s a drainage hole near the cabin filter that gets clogged up over time. There are some videos on how to fix it and it doesn’t take about 10 minutes.
Wait a minute… did they actually suggest using an ignition timing light to check the cam timing?!?!
ive had nothing but bad luck with my v6 thankfully i got it for free from my brother since he hadent driven the car for a couple of years because of the transmission, it was a rental and has had 7 owners, my trans slips, my converters broke, it stalls sometimes when it slips gears, somethings wrong with my horn i just havent cared to diagnose it yet, pretty sure my head gasket is blown or nobody ever did a coolant flush cause my coolant was super brown and had "mud" in it. it also idles fairly rough so my timing chain might have skipped a tooth, a previous owner stripped the head for the first cylinder spark plug, there was water getting in through the firewall, a lot of wires were chewed by mice or something, and other general maintenance stuff like turning my rotors and replacing brake pads, outer tie rods, etc.. it seems like nobody ever did anything to this car before i got my hands on it. ive been slowly but surely fixing it cause i enjoy driving the car and it makes for a good project car. the hardest part is getting the money.......... dont even get my started on the after market security system that either the rental company or a previous owner put in the car, for me to take it all out i need to rip out the entire dash which i really dont wanna do. i know not all 2006 v6 mustangs are like this i just happened to get the bottom of the barrel
I need help my throttle body keeps going out and my throttle pedal keeps burning out what electrónical problems could cause my throttle system to go bad
How about doing head gaskets? Do I have to remove the front timing cover and cam shafts to do head gaskets only?
Let's not forget the hood corrosion issue that Ford denies.
Question? My 08 mustang convertible front end shakes at 55-70mph and the steering wheel shakes when foot is on brakes but pedal does not shake?
Yes....because it's on RUclips, it's 100% true. Don't trust us Ford mechanics who know these cars inside and out. If it's on the internet, it must be true.
Nice to know, but the 11 - 14 Mustangs are very different.

👍 Great information. How about you all do a segment called Story time with Len.
What would be a problem with my transmission where when I go to accelerate it will clank/jerk the entire car before going. My v6 06 mustang has a low rattling noise when idle, and once I accelerate around 2-3 rpm’s it gets SUPER loud. How tf do I fix this🧍🏾♂️
The timing chain isn't likely to jump.
I've owned my 2008 Mustang since 2014 and haven't a single issue. Especially none of the ones you're claiming in this video.

The engine has a Dr Jeckle Mr Hyde personality with drivability issues- jerking the driveline, stalling
The clutch seems to be different and grabby at times ,
The hood seems to be making rust holes/rot beneath the front edge,
Battery power loss over a few weeks...
the dam air doors for the havoc only run the windshield defrost and vents but no the the floor.....
