    I thought it was your first time. It’s interesting how I’ve been following your recent videos and didn’t even know any of this. I also kind of big chopped after some events, one of them was a harsh Dominican blowout, reaaally strong, not even to wear it but only to braid my hair. I had stretched my hair already and it was enough in my opinion cuz it was just braids you know… but noooo, they had to fry it 🙄 . And then I neglected my hair, I left the style in waaay too long, for several months. It was such a mess when I took that off. Of course there was a lot of breakage cuz I detangled the shit out of my matted hair, all that to realized my curl pattern was compromised, there was like some relaxed looking parts Idk. After some frustrating wash days I started “trimming” and I realized that I’d been basically transitioning. I’ve been natural for years, had to cut all that mess and I’m starting over 🙄. I’m back to watching videos and relearning and all that. So here I am 😌

    Your hair is much healthier now. When did you start the hair detox? I might big chop because the front of my hair isn’t reverting from the detox. The back of my hair is though

    • @BrittanyMia

      I never really officially started the hair detox. It wasn’t intentional. But I guess you could say around the time when I started my weekly wash and go’s.

    I noticed in your recent video you mentioned stretching. your hair looked really healthy here. Was it harder to deal with before the big chop or is your new hair easier to deal with?

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  Год назад +13

      My hair in this video is grown out from protective styling. My first big chop was in 2016 and I put my hair in twists underneath head wraps for literally 3 years and grew my hair to mid back. Had I done it the same way this time around I know from experience my hair would be a lot longer than it is right now. However, I have learned so much from this experience with curly cuts specifically. The main thing being, if my sole goal is length retention, protective styling with weekly wash days and trims on blown out/straightened hair. I’d like to point out that I still experienced a whole lot of single strand knots!! But I was using oil and creams on my hair and hadn’t experienced over moisturized hair because of it. I was also getting my hair cut on blown out/straightened hair, where we could clearly see the knots and tangles. So it was easier to deal with because there was no Hygral fatigue or over-moisturizing, and all of the split ends and single strand knots were cut from my hair because my hair was fully being assessed and it’s blown out state.
      However, my issue after growing out my hair the first time was maintaining my hair while at the same time not knowing how I wanted to wear it. I knew that I didn’t want to keep wearing my hair in twists constantly being covered, but all I wanted to do was wear it straight when it was out to show off the length. I ended up getting a Dominican blowout. While it wasn’t obviously heat damaged, my curl pattern was still compromised and I knew that I had to decide how I wanted to wear my hair in order to actually feel as though it was worth growing my hair out. For me, it was pointless to have long hair that is constantly covered because it wasn’t expressing who I am. And at the same time, it was pointless to get my hair straightened because it compromised the actual health of my hair, and I didn’t want to maintain hair that was the literal opposite of my natural type of hair.
      Since growing it out in a Wash N Go, I found that I’ve been over hydrating my hair. The only saving grace is that I’ve never stopped really using Leave-in. This has been a big lesson for me because I really found value in oils now. They played a big role in keeping my hair from being over hydrated during my first big chop experience. I keep finding myself coming back to the LOC method. The oil (and even oil based creams and leave-ins) helped a lot in preventing Hygral fatigue, which I started to experience when using UFD Curly magic as my main styler. It had a lot a hydrating elements in it, but ALONE it was too much for my hair. I really needed a cream and oil styler in between my hair and the Curly magic in order to prevent Hygral fatigue or overly moisturized hair.
      So now that I figured this out, I will be getting my hair cut on blown out hair from now on, and I’ll be re-implementing oils and creams into my hair (mostly oils because I’ve already been using creams). Also taking what I have learned about how to effectively shampoo, I’m sure I’ll be able to make it work for my wash and go’s.

    I wish you broke down the way and go a bit more and give a bit more detail on how to achieve your volume versus how you get your more defined look. It went a little too quick for me. Beautiful hair! But you have big chopped (just watched curly magic WnG. ). Your shorter curls are beautiful!

      The defined look come naturally to your hair type , Her hair is low porosity what’s yours,? She is showing her method of applying products to her hair basically on soak n wet hair it’s common sense your main question was your volume, Yes it’s her volume and your volume will be different from hers just take her technique and apply it to yours own hair

    Why did you big chop

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  Год назад +14

      I got a Dominican blowout in New York, and I wouldn’t say I liked how my curls were as a result. They weren’t heat damaged per se, but they were different, and I was not too fond of the look and feel of my curls anymore. 2020 also sucked, and I wanted to start fresh, so I decided to big chop in December of 2020.

      @@BrittanyMia Oh I understand I’m low porosity as well and I got a Dominican blow out as well but my fail was not applying moisture deep conditioning which didnt bring my curls back back lol I was still learning my hair

      @@bullyscentral7287 Aren’t we all! I feel as though our hair changes with our aging and other environmental factors. It’s a constant learning pattern we go through. At first, I was all about mastering my hair but now I’m all about mastering my attention to my hair and what it needs that day, at that moment in time.

      @@BrittanyMia Definitely facts same here I’m focusing on moisture what my hair needs , I done went back to a oldie African pride and grabbed the moisture & define curling cream it has Shea & flaxseed oil lol they stepped up , but I’m looking to see how it feels on my hair far as moisture retaining, I hope you give it a try yourself I will love to see how it responds they also have a leave in cream that smells good not over powering strong,,, I watch you because your low porosity and I learned the hard way everyone hair isn’t the same and knowing porosity helps to know what products to buy lol
