As a purple hair individual for the last 2 years, I promise the color applies smoother when you dampen sections as you apply. I keep a spray bottle with me and spray a few times for each section before applying. I get better, more even results and use far less product!
From my experience with overtone it’s better to leave it on your hair for an hour or two to really let it soak in. I’ve noticed that leaving on longer will make the color come out brighter
I use the extreme purple (not for brown hair) and I have brown hair and it’s vibrant. I’ve also used Arctic Fox purple rain and made my own “overtone” with deep conditioner.
I came across your video because I’m thinking of dying my hair purple and I to have a gray but much more than you do. I have to say I think you look absolutely gorgeous with a darker hair! You are already attractive but the darker hair brought out your eyes and all your features and it just made you look extremely stunning! I truly love the darker hair on you
That’s because your hair is wet and not dry so it doesn’t penetrate the cuticle with that formula it’s “supposed” bring it from dull to multi-dimensional. I only found that the conditioner worked when I started with my natural hair (light blond) and noticed it didn’t do real for light brown to black, which makes sense since darker color doesn’t hold onto colors well. I definitely added the tub due to some clarifying conditioner and did a quick mask. Which worked well.
I had my hair professionally dyed fantasy colors ( mainly fuchsia - purple - electric blue) for almost two years. The blue never faded to green and lasted well - the roots were my problem. We used Pulp Riot. I will say that it came off my scalp and face well. I would use cooler hair to wash my hair and washed it only every 3 to 4 days. However, the washout did stain my tub. Once I stopped with the fantasy colors, the hair dye in my tub came out with repeated cleanings. Anyhow. Your hair looks (and always looks) fab.
I have really long and thick hair, I used two whole containers to do mine this same purple. I had the same results you did. I absolutely love it. I was just wanting the subtle purple color though and it really shows up in the sun. I’m going to do mine again soon, the down side is it takes forever and it’s a huge mess.
I also dyed my hair Last Sunday, First time trying UL63 Hi-Lift Gold Brown from L'OREAL it is designed to Lighten the Darkest hair. My Before hair is naturally black with a permanent Red undertone. 🤷🏻♀️ This product worked great I have this Jennifer Love Hewitt vibes going for the Spring Season. 💃🏻
So I also bought this. I had gotten like... a deep purple-y burgundy color on my ends months ago.y mom wanted to treat me, I never get my hair done. It was faded out pretty good and the ends of my hair were an off pinky kinda color. I used this on that part of my hair and I LOVE it. It’s beautiful. I haven’t put it on the darker brown part of my hair though😬 so I think it worked so well because my hair was already a lightish pinky kinda color
Looks awesome. Water sets color so to get color off your face, ears neck take shampoo and rub it on the spots then wipe off with a dry tissue or cloth., before getting it wet.
The color looks fun! It'll def look amazing in the light. I think grey hair is very difficult to color specifically because of why they're grey. The hair shaft no longer grows/lays properly, the layers are open, so even when normal color is laid down, it can't be trapped/held and just falls out again when you rinse.
To get a more vibrant you may want to *Make sure your hair does not have any conditioner when you use. * Leave it on for much longer than 20 minutes * Do not worry about the water running clear when rinsing. You want some color in the hair after all. * I use a hair dryer prior to rinsing * Rinse with tepid to Cool water, not hot :D. Also, you look like you had processed hair - red under tones? It looks really pretty regardless !
My trick to protect skin when dying i take cold compress coconut oil on a glove massage to melt cover forehead ears neck . Isn't gooey like Vaseline whitch DON'T want in your hair edges. Then fresh pair to apply dye .Also fresh pair to rinse. To clean shower use Clorox cleanup spray works amazing!
It looks good! Can really tell in natural light. My hair is almost black and have more gray than you. I feel like it wouldn't look purple on me either. I love vanity colored hair too, but like you said, the upkeep on it is so much sometimes.
I love overtone I’ve used so many colors of there’s, I’ve never used for brown hair though only because I love the extreme vibrant colors the best. I’m currently extreme purple & love it. I also leave mine in for over an hour I feel like works better left in longer 😋 but the color you got is sooo pretty & looks great on you. 💜💜💜
I have used the blue and rose gold for brown and it was good. I have medium brown hair and it's not super bright but I like it bc I work in health care and can't have crazy hair
I am almost always purple. I usually use Arctic Fox, Purple Rain. I recently dyed the bottom half of my hair with Olia, black amethyst, & it came out a purple-ish hue. I haven't tried Overtone, but I may check it out when I'm ready to dye the top half of my hair.
Just a random tip. But, if you want to help with the frizzy hair treat yourself to some organic shae butter and use it as a hair mask every other week. I over processed my hair & this has helped my hair so much.
i recently dyed my hair with overtone "extreme blue" and my hair was a similar color to yours. it just turned out black. i wanted to cry LOL. I've had great results with overtone before (I've used purple and pink both turned out SUPER vibrant) but my hair was much much much lighter and i left it in for 2 hours (until it turned crunchy haha)
Oh wow girl... I was expecting it to be way brighter of a purple.... but I LOVE IT!!! I think it looks great!! I use this same brand and maybe because I color my hair purple my hair turns a more brighter purple when I use this .... but I LOVE this on you!!!💜💜💜💜
I've been wanting to color my hair a pastel purple forever!! I'm so scared to do it though! I'm hoping I get up enough nerve to do it sooner than later though! Can't wait to see how yours turns out!!💕😊
check out arctic fox hair dye for some really pretty pastel purple ideas. I'm a huge fan. I like overtone, but they use coconut oil in their things and I'm allergic so they are a nope for me.
@@anjyllab-t6713 Thank you for recommending arctic fox I appreciate it! My daughter and I have both been wanting to put color in our hair. I'm glad you told me that Overtone uses coconut oil, because my daughter is allergic to it also! Do you know if arctic fox colors will color brown hair or if you need to bleach hair first?
@@keishasue5659 It depends on the color. I've used Purple rain and ritual on unbleached medium brown hair and it's shown up but of course, if you want the most bang, bleaching is required. the Bleach please they offer is really good and lifted me from a level 3.5 to a level 8.5 in about 20 minutes. For pastel hair, you will want to bleach it to a level 10 aka as white blonde as possible.
it came out great!! i did it on medium brown with some highlights and it came out really nice, kinda darkened the highlights so it came out all dark purple. loved it!
i use the Purple of “No Fade Fresh” shampoo and it’s a shampoo dye & that’s how i normally dye my hair - haven’t used other dyes in years. highly recommend
IME, veeerrrrrry few dyes even so much as tint grey hair. My stylists have all said you have to bleach the strands for them to soak in the dye into the shaft. That said, I use the Extreme Blue Overtone on my almost-black natural hair, and it tints the whole thing a slight blue in sunlight. The greys have maybe a light blue sheen, but they're basically still grey. The only thing that really works for ME is Pulp Riot Nightfall and bleached to at least a 6-7, overall. PR lasts for months though and fades beautifully. I sometimes use the Overtone just to extend the color, since it's so $$ to have the head done.
It will wash out of the grey faster. Just use a little with conditioner and cover it everytime you wash. Plus...I like my shimmer strands to shine through.
I know it’s not exactly what you wanted but you look DEVINE with the colour and your eyes and skin tone just look gorgeous with it.... well even more beautiful 😍
I LOVEEEEEEEE!!! It really does look soo good on you! Especially in the natural light! 💜💜💜💜 Rose Gold was my second choice, I think it will be a good choice as this fades out!
it dyes my porcelain shower/bath combo. But it fades after a couple weeks. I love Overtone! I have used Blue, Orange for Brown, and also Golden Brown! I loved the way the Golden Brown makes my hair look. Wasn't a fan of the Blue. It was like yours. Just a little hint of color. No vibrancy. The orange was nice. But I just stick to the golden brown for me.
My hair is darker and very thick too than yours and more grays too and I do a burgundy red and it does the sameting I was so upset ..but on a bright sunny day it does look more vibrant.
I love the idea of overtone but my hair goes past my butt so it really isn’t cost effective. But also laundry detergent on a wet washcloth will take dye off you skin amazing it’s honestly a life saver for me.
It covers my greys but I gotta leave it on longer like for at least an hour. but sometimes I leave it on for hours with a bag on my head and clean my house.
So I have extremely dark brown hair (basically looks black but it’s not) and I used artic fox aqua marine because I wanted like a teal color. While I would not say it’s teal it depends on the lighting it either looks very green or blue but seriously the most vibrant thing I have ever seen in my hair. Used it over dye and did no stripping. So maybe that’s the better answer. I am interested in what happens here because I was looking at overtone I am wanting to do rose gold soon for spring 😬
I think it looks good. I agree that the website is deceiving. My hair is darker than yours, probably like the website model. Glad you tried it, I won’t be trying. I’d like out there color, but don’t want to bleach.
My hair is significantly longer than yours and I use less when dying my whole head. Not a bad thing! I know you were just nervous you wouldn’t use enough to cover everything but they really do last forever and those in shower conditioners are amazing as well! It looks really pretty on you! It’s definitely just a touch of color but it’s pretty!
I have been wanting to try overtone but I dye my hair a deep Burgundy and I haven't seen anything on their website in a color I like. Also, just a little suggestion from someone who makes a mess... buy a really cheap table cloth and lay it down on your floor when you dye your hair!
I just dyed mine about the same color and it came out more like the ad than your and my hair was def darker than yours starting out. I got my dye at the drugstore tho, it was garnier.

I think you rock the dark honestly. It's super beautiful
I use the extreme purple (not for brown hair) and I have brown hair and it’s vibrant. I’ve also used Arctic Fox purple rain and made my own “overtone” with deep conditioner.
I did that on my friend's daughter's hair and it stays a really long ime.
I recommend putting a barrier cream around your hair line & ears to minimize risk of getting dye on your skin.
I came across your video because I’m thinking of dying my hair purple and I to have a gray but much more than you do. I have to say I think you look absolutely gorgeous with a darker hair! OMGOODNESS YES I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! YOU LOOK AMAZING 💜❤️💖 🥰😍😍😍
I think it looks great on you. Especially outside, you can see more of the purple in natural light. I loved it.
I didn’t like the daily conditioner. I mixed my normal conditioner in with the leftover tub dye and it worked great’
That’s because your hair is wet and not dry so it doesn’t penetrate the cuticle with that formula it’s “supposed” bring it from dull to multi-dimensional. Love it, Chrissy-really makes your eye color POP!
Yes! I was thinking the same thing!
You can use conditioner on your face at the hair line too. My daughter uses Aquaphor , as a beautician.
I have really long and thick hair, I used two whole containers to do mine this same purple. I had the same results you did. I absolutely love it. I think it looks gorgeous on you. I am doing the vibrant silver as I now have grown out natural grey hair.
I think its super pretty on you! You should try Brad Mondo's hair color line Xmondo. They have a super purple that takes really well to brown hair!

:D. Also, you look like you had processed hair - red under tones? It looks really pretty regardless !
I have super short hair and thought about using something like this but I think it would be so noticable on my scalp.
Don’t apply to your roots!
This color with your eyes 🤩😍it’s beautiful!! The darker purple toned brown is perfect.
My trick to protect skin when dying i take cold compress coconut oil on a glove massage to melt cover forehead ears neck . Isn't gooey like Vaseline whitch DON'T want in your hair edges. Then fresh pair to apply dye .Also fresh pair to rinse. To clean shower use Clorox cleanup spray works amazing!
oh girl when you came on camera with the pink head wrap i laughed because I legit wasn't expecting that! But it came out so beautiful!
I think it looks really great it makes your eyes look clearer
I'M OBSESSED this is exactly what i want and i have all the ingredients and same hair base so I'm gonna DO THIS RIGHT NOW
Any body or face lotion can be applied to the face and neck at hairline to prevent dying your skin.
Looks great. I love the lighter sections so much.
I think it looks gorgeous. That darker color totally pops your eye color!
it looks so pretty!! you look so beautiful in the sunlight too!!
Oh I love it in the natural light!
Love the color in the natural light!!!
It looks beautiful on you. Your eyes with that color looks amazing!
I LOVE it!!! I knew I thought I noticed your hair being darker in one of your stories the other day!!! Seriously love it!!
Wow that turned out pretty 😍 I love it ❤ It really suits you and your skin tone.
Yasssss!!! Glad you did it. The purple is so nice and that minty smell...omg.
I really really really really really really really REALLY love this on u!!!! Especially outside!!!! The deep looks good on you boo!
Absolutely love it! I dyed mine recently also and it didn’t go evenly all the way. Weird how hair does that. You’re awesome!
It looks good! Can really tell in natural light. My hair is almost black and have more gray than you. I feel like it wouldn't look purple on me either. I love vanity colored hair too, but like you said, the upkeep on it is so much sometimes.

As a cosmetologist, I think it isn’t as vibrant because you had more red undertones in your hair before as well as it being previously colored
I LOVE Arctic Fox. I really didn’t like Overtone. It smells like a weird mint but not in a good way. I’m curious if you’ll like it compared to AF
Just a random tip. But, if you want to help with the frizzy hair treat yourself to some organic shae butter and use it as a hair mask every other week. I over processed my hair & this has helped my hair so much.

I love overtone!!! My greys turned purple and washed out more quickly
Oh my gosh! It's so pretty in your hair!!
Arctic fox purple rain will probably work better, that's what I use my hair is dark brown and it works great on my hair. Plus it's far less expensive
It is purple 💜 After the first wash is when you get your real color. 👍🏼 Rose gold is exciting too! 🥰
Oh wow girl... I was expecting it to be way brighter of a purple.... but I LOVE IT!!! I think it looks great!! I use this same brand and maybe because I color my hair purple my hair turns a more brighter purple when I use this .... but I LOVE this on you!!!💜💜💜💜
Yes! I love this video, and been wanting to try the purp overtone for a while now!! Thanks for sharing!!!! Look sosososo good💜💜💜💜💜💜

I like it better than the advertised photo.. I wasn't interested until I saw your results.. now I'm very interested
I always want my hair dark purple but it usually fades to maroon and I hate that. Yours looks so good.

I love what it did to your hair! Thanks for doing the review.
Its more burgundy than purple but looks amazing!
I like it I hope you start to like it! Cant wait to see the rose gold!
I think it looks stunning, yes a bright more vibrant purple would be better but this color is beautiful.
I love it actually.. I think it looks great on you!
Would you consider testing Aura? I believe it is a sister company of eSalon and has the colored conditioners like oVerton e
it dyes my porcelain shower/bath combo. But it fades after a couple weeks. I love Overtone! I have used Blue, Orange for Brown, and also Golden Brown! Girl ! The color looks great on you !!!
The picture from overtone also looks like more bright light. Plus your box color changes the outcome too
I just died my hair last night I had cover my Greys. I get 1 inch of growth every 3 weeks I have to dye
I think it looks amazing, but I also like the rose gold for myself as well.
That color looks really good on you.
My hair is darker and very thick too than yours and more grays too and I do a burgundy red and it does the sameting I was so upset ..but on a bright sunny day it does look more vibrant.
Omg I love that! Looks so good on you!
I used the red for brown but it never covered my gray. Hair was shiny but I was too gray to continue using.
I love the idea of overtone but my hair goes past my butt so it really isn’t cost effective. But also laundry detergent on a wet washcloth will take dye off you skin amazing it’s honestly a life saver for me.
In back can see red big streaks. Ty for testing so I don't have to
It covers my greys but I gotta leave it on longer like for at least an hour. but sometimes I leave it on for hours with a bag on my head and clean my house.

You are very pretty with this color!! 😍👍 It suits you!
I like it!! It would look great if it was more vibrant too! In daylight its super pretty! 💖

Dude, you rock the purple!!!! Love it!!!
Love the colour on you!
I have been wanting to try overtone but I dye my hair a deep Burgundy and I haven't seen anything on their website in a color I like. Also, just a little suggestion from someone who makes a mess... buy a really cheap table cloth and lay it down on your floor when you dye your hair!
You look GORGEOUS! Also, pretty much any oil will keep the staining to a minimum. 😀
I just dyed mine about the same color and it came out more like the ad than your and my hair was def darker than yours starting out. I got my dye at the drugstore tho, it was garnier.
Have you ever tried using henna? I think you'd like it!
