i would love to do this can you use any wood do you have to dry it ????? no books on amazon

Hi D did you watch this play list?
Basically your tenons must be dry ,if you prepare them in green wood make them over sized by a couple of mm in diameter then you can put them in a black tin box with ventilation holes in the sun to dry for a couple of weeks or put a bucket of sand on a fire and stick the tenons in until dry.
The mortises can be in not so dry wood, when you fit very dry tenons in moist mortises the tenon absorbs moisture and expands the mortise contracts as it dries creating a very good joint.
I hope this helps,go ahead and give it a go it’s very intuitive and satisfying work, I feel it awakens in me a primitive man that knows how to do it.
      Happy Rustic Woodworking David

Hard wood is best for small elements less than 40mm diameter softwood needs thicker diameters.
Hardwoods are nut trees fruit trees and any tree that its seed is totally enclosed
Soft woods pine cedar cypress and trees who’s seed can fall free of its enclosure when dry . You can find apps that can identify leaves and identify wood
You could also just collect branches you find dry them and experiment
