- The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, born in 1972, is credited with introducing the phenomenon of luxury steel sports watches. Then, the also Genta-designed Patek Philippe Nautilus would debut in 1976 - further establishing this new category. At times left out of the conversation, however, is the Piaget Polo, launched in 1979. Its revival, the Polo 79, is deservedly bringing the - dare we say - icon back into the limelight. And it comes at a perfect time, when through the efforts of various influencers and personalities within the watch community, vintage Piaget is becoming more and more on watch collectors' radars. Fortuitously, Andrew was able to meet with Mr Piaget himself, Yves Piaget, who was at the helm of Piaget when the Polo was first launched. The fourth generation of the Piaget family to oversee the brand, Yves, in his conversation with Andrew, showcases the genesis of the Polo as a watch and concept and his perspective introduces a new and interesting lens.

Great interview, remarkable watches. For me they feel like a very specific niche that takes from different styles while keeping its own unique language. I also appreciate the concept of quartz premium they came up in the 1970s.
What a watch!
What a video!
What an interview!
Bravo !!!
Really enjoy this video, great interview.
The eta escapement is a little wild for price point. But looks nice aesthetically
Very cool
Really really enjoyed this one. You guys hit it out of the park yet again!
Give me a Casio watch every time
Shit watches good for rail track
What a watch, super cool interview.
Great job, Andrew!
Great interview! 😎👍
I worked for Piaget Canada from 85-99. I met Yves Piaget who was very nice, but the Polo was designed by Jean-Claude Gueit, it was a beautiful design. I had the privilege to wear the 7131 C701 6/00 Square Polo which was exquisite. Gerry Grinberg, the Piaget disturber of Piaget from 57-99 in North America. Gerry was a friend of Andy Warhol, which is why he love Piaget. Piaget was the Jetset brand of the 70-90's and that is thanks to Gerry. AP didn't stand up to Piaget in NA during this period.
"How was your day?"
"Oh, fine. Went to Monaco, hung out with Yves Piaget, talked about watches and roses. He reminisced about partying with Ursula Andress, Andy Warhol, Sammy Davis Jr. and Roger Moore, you know, the usual."
Love this video. Andrew perhaps you could put together a Fantasy Party from the 70's, eg The people attending and the watches they might wear. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis - Cartier Tank.
Andy Warhol wearing the Piaget, Roger Moore wearing an Piaget, Paul Newman Rolex Daytona, Steve Macqueen Tag Monaco, Elvis with his Rolex King Midas, I will be rocking my own VC 222.
It's only when you sit down and go through stuff you realise just how great these times were. Please add to my Party List. Who is wearing an AP or PP ......
My god, this is a genius idea! Thank you - Andrew
Make this watch in 40mm and in steel and you might have a really massive commercial hit!
Awesome interview.. I love the digital patch up on the shirt as well. Class.
🙈
Wonderful content! Enjoyed it a lot! Thank you❤
10:00 Lost Piaget/Warhol watch designs
Nice to hear real life 70s storys that must have been glamorous times.
🔥
I'm sure Picasso and Dali would have something to say about Warhol being the most important painter of the 20th century
Warhol was a cultural icon...important figure for sure....do not think Dali, Picasso or even Warhol thought in those terms.
Great interview, what an icon. Bravo.
Complimenti per l'intervista. Piacevole. I grandi sono sempre alla mano. Grande Yves
That was pretty cool
Love this watch and this brand, but this specific reissue is absolutly and insanly expensive...
And sold out!
I agree. I’d love to have one but it’s way out of my price range. Such a classy watch.
Thank you so much for this interview.
What a joy
Andrew got so excited, did all the talking himself lol Still a good interview. I loved learning about the Piaget family.
Andrew here, yes, guilty 🫣
@@Timeandtidewatches happens to the best of us. We still love you!
Regular Polo Field in Green please
What is this accent?
I stopped watching after a minute, unable to endure.
Mr Piaget's native language is French, however he was educated in Santa Monica at GIA. Professionally, he is an engineer.
The interviewer, not the interviewee.
The round dial is 🤌
I think it could really work in titanium too.
Cool piece but a six-digit msrp is absurd for what it is. If I’m considering a full gold 70s-style piece with
Definitely the intended competitive set - 222 and solid gold APs - punchy from Piaget, but equally an iconic watch, so fair play.
Lets not forget. all of these pieces are already allocated. so in my books. the price is absolutely right for the piaget fans who really want this piece. To me. This piece is Freaking iconic and carries with it a very powerful impression. To me. Far more memorable than the 222. (Which I really love btw)
wonder what they will 2nd hand for
If you want a similar look get an Omega Constellation Double Eagle in solid 18k gold.
That Yves guy looks as much distrustworthy as humanly possible XD
Sorry, I have met Mr. Piaget many times over decades, and he has always impressed me as a gentleman with the highest integrity. Contrary to what some believe, he came into the family business very slowly as he had to earn his position every step of the way.
Beurkkkkkk
HOLY MOLY! What a BUZZ ⚓️
