“The master of the genre was undoubtedly Lionel Blair, and who will ever forget him, exhausted and on his knees, finishing off An Officer and a Gentleman in under two minutes?” - Humphrey Lyttleton.
I find it quite sad that one of my favourite actors and comedians (Roy Kinnear) wouldn't be around much longer, after this episode aired. I wished that I could have met him, as Roy was a very funny man!
Tommy Cooper was just as funny (or probably funnier). All the comedians today that on television are never as funny, compared to comedians in the 1970s and 1980s. Les Dawson was also a great comic and was a great host on Blankety Blank. David Walliams, Peter Kay and Jimmy Carr owe a lot to these comedians.
show Tommy Cooper to a young audience and most wouldn't see why it was funny, humour is subjective and shifts over time, I was more into alternative 80s stuff but change is fine it's normal we still have old tv to rewatch if we want. gawd yes so many gone now in that clip Liza Goddard and Sue Pollard still with us
So incredibly classic, we watched that every day early 90,s, only thought to look the theme up because I was watching Bergerac and Liza Goddard is in some episodes, we used to get right into the show, Fun times
It’s 2021 I’m English and live in Australia and I’m watching the English quiz show in tv here “the chaser”, a question just was “which tv show once had the same theme tune as grange hill?” The answer was ‘give us a clue’.... I know the grange hill theme tune so I’ve just come here to see if I can hear the resemblance, and I can’t!! Can anyone else hear the resemblance???
This was the third theme tune. The first theme was a rearrangement of Alan Hawkshaw's "Chicken Man" - the original was used as the theme to _Grange Hill._ The second theme was a more of a light entertainment theme tune, used for a few Michael Aspel series and the first couple or so of Michael Parkinson's series, and it was composed by Denis King. This was the third theme tune, composed by Alan Braden.
I think this is either 18th or 19th January 1988 (he and the other five guests were in two episodes). His actual last new appearance on television seems to have been as a guest on Roland Rat - The Series II on 23rd May 1988. The only mention I can find of him in any TV listings between then and his death is as narrator on a repeated episode of Bertha.

Don't forget Una Stubbs, her hands a blur, getting through Twelve Angry Men in record time.
The era when theme songs were driving, not just recognisable.
My childhood right here!
The TV show with the longest theme tune ever.
So true 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭

Why should you never speak ill of the dead?
Because Roy Kinnear.

RIP Michael Parkinson 💔
There is hardly anybody alive today from this episode of ‘Give Us A Clue’.

The always had that one person at the end of each team whom nobody recognised lol
RIP Lionel Blair. ❤
I know! He will be sadly missed. I loved Give Us A Clue as a child. 🙂

This was the good old days!
RIP Lionel Blair
RIP Lionel blair!
Its Mark Wynter - a very minor 60s pop singer who moved into acting and can regularly be seen in shows touring the UK.
He also stood in for Peter Davison occasionally on the 80s childrens' show ONCE UPON A TIME.
RIP Lionel
Rip Parky😢
June Whitfield Lionel Blair Roy Kinnear and Leslie Grantham sadly are no longer with us

They changed the theme tune in the early 80s. It was originally the same tune as Grange Hill.

A mother and daughter pairing.
This was Roy Kinnear's last TV appearance before his unexpected death. Do you have the full episode?
Didn't know that! No, I just used to record ins and outs annoyingly!
@@RetroTellyClips weirdly...😂

What happened to Una Stubbs, as ladies team captain?
Sorry who's the last member of the ladies team? Aitchison? Don't recognise her.
Actress of the time. But crucially, daughter of June Whitfield
Grant Winter...minimal applause from the audience😂
Which channel
THAT'S JUNE WHITFIELD'S DAUGHTER!!! 😵😵😵🦊🦊🦊
When she was introduced at the start, Liza Goddard looks like she's just taken LSD
RIP Parky
Russell Harty (in the titles) must have been dead when this was shown?
Maybe. He died June 1988.
Ben Watmough a veritable morgue- Kenneth Williams from the titles also possibly dead by the time of TX. And poor Roy Kinnear died later that year ofc
Grant Winter was clearly annoyed at the tepid welcome from the audience. Shouldn’t be a support act for Leslie Grantham.
Wouldn't catch any celeb doing this now that's for sure because it would hurt they rep
There all dead or nearly dead! Great to see lol!
They're
Now that werent very nice, Michael Parkinson still alive and kicking. 😡
@@scottpeacock5492 It's not nice at all. Nor is her grammar :-)
Do you not understand English?
The Irish gameshow "Play The Game" was a rip-off of Give Us A Clue.
Ah Jaysus will ye play the game now?
