This is a trilogy worthy of Shakespeare. Ren is our modern day bard. It is a real rollercoaster of a ride from the sublime guitar playing to the gut-wrenching tragedy of the tales themselves. Hard to listen to but Ren's performance was both brilliant and chilling. On a far lighter note congratulation both on the 100K - no channel is more deserving! Keep up the great work. Great reaction. Carol nailed exactly what the theme of the story. We also realize at the end that if they were twins, Jenny was also only 14. They were both street kids. Screech was a hoodlum and Jenny was walking late at night in high heels and rosie on her cheeks
It's a hard watch and I always cry. The generational trauma passed from Voilets parents, to her to her children. Cycles no one was able yo break. Hopefully this art can help someone somewhere suffering. Sadly things like this happen everyday and pretending they don't helps no one

I find it fascinating watching people fill in the story. It shows how amazing the storytelling is that it builds such a full picture of the history of the twins.
It's a brilliant trilogy, I first watched it then had to check out a reaction to see how others felt about it and a year and a half later if I see a reaction I have to check it out to relive that first experience again. A lot of people notice the 'rewind' on the guitar in the hospital bed but miss the fast forward on the guitar after the attack which brings us back to the hospital. It's an incredible piece of work.
The musical performance by Ren in each Tale is Epic! Every movement and acting is perfected. He paints a picture in the minds of his audience. Ren is incredible in his storytelling. I felt the same emotions too, after the plot twist. Great reaction guys!
So many lives lived rooted in trauma, and we can't seem to stop making them, family trauma is often rooted in societal ills of poverty, prejudice, brutality, and violence. Based upon our natures we respond and are shaped by it, it taints our relationships, and these models are passed on to the next generations. The Tales are based upon a police blotter article in a paper Ren read, it was the story of a young prostitute killed by another youth during a mugging, then a responding officer killing the youth. In the article the commanding officer was quoted saying 'they were so young, it's such a shame.' 'It's such a shame' is a phrase Ren uses throughout The Tales. Some seem to miss that Violet's father 'tuck her tight, but never left the room. I'll spare you with the things he did, I'm sure her mother knew.' 'moved out at 16, a semi-detached council flat provided by a welfare scheme...' The only girl who would get a flat like that would be pregnant... she was likely pregnant by her father. Multigenerational trauma and abuse. Stevie calls her a 'little liar' and a 'fucking slut,' this could be because he figured out that she was pregnant before they got together. Levels. These videos were actually made a year apart. Originally it was just the two videos, but the third part was created to bring them back together as a way to understand the origins of the characters, the generational abuse, neglect, and trauma that led to their lives, a repeat of their parents, and the resulting continuing tragedy. Some people see 'The Tales' and think they are recent, or the 3 parts of 'Money Game' and not that they go back 3 or 4 years, and that his back catalog is so big. It is a tale of 'overnight success.' He is obsessive and rehearses endlessly and in filming does take after take, for 'Money Game Part 1' there were issues so they went all night with about 180 takes, for 'The Tales' they were done about 50 times, for Violet's tale there were 54 takes as something wouldn't go just right in the long live one take shot. They had one with rain showers at a very special moment but in review it wasn't as good, but in the version used the plane flying overhead stirring up the seagulls right when 'Stevie' pauses to see what he did to Violet also seems special. This is Ren very much in 'Bardcore,' he spent much of his youth going with his parents to renaissance festivals and likely seeing many British pantomime plays, so this kind of performance was well ingrained for him. The second phrase he plays in Violet's Tale just before he moves up to play on the neck in a tapping or plucking technique really reminds me of the sort of Medieval lute or guitar tune played in a tavern. Tunes likely heard at a Renaissance Festival, something like the classical guitar in Scarborough Fair, Greensleeves, Bonny Sweet Boy, Coventry Carol, and Almain. Songs with a bit of a Celtic or Irish Folk feeling are similar too, Blackmore's Night - Renaissance Faire (Official Video), the intro to Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO), or the comedic parody The Ren Faire Song by musicalblades.

I sometimes wonder if REN actually realised how deep and dark this performance is? Even if he left this earth too soon he has definitely given more for his struggle than any of our so called role models or heroes from the history books. Ren to me has had a massive impact on actually getting people off their ass and doing something with their lives. I feel he has woke up alot of talented artists out there who maybe we're just happy with their lifestyle than their talent.

Newish to the channel and I am hooked. Ren is easily the greatest singer/songwriter/videographer vision of my last ten years. It takes massive surrounding talent to do the thing he has done. Incredible musicians, wicked smart framing and videography. But there is absolutely no denying this man and his gift. ... it is one thing to look back as see the glory of the Beatles or Led Zep of Springsteen and Young... Vedder and Kurt and on and on... but it is another thing to live within their time. ... To be present. Ren is easily among the greatest of my five decades. Newish to the channel and I am hooked. Ren is easily the greatest singer/songwriter/videographer vision of my last ten years. It takes massive surrounding talent to do the thing he has done. Incredible musicians, wicked smart framing and videography. But there is absolutely no denying this man and his gift. ... it is one thing to look back as see the glory of the Beatles or Led Zep of Springsteen and Young... Vedder and Kurt and on and on... but it is another thing to live within their time. ... To be present. Ren is easily among the greatest of my five decades. His dark speaks to my darkest spaces and his joy speaks to my most loved moments. Danke for the react. we need him pushed out into this world.
