Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god, is one of the most beloved deities in Hindu mythology, symbolizing wisdom, prosperity, and the remover of obstacles.
According to one popular story, Ganesha was created by his mother, Goddess Parvati. She made him out of sandalwood paste and breathed life into him to guard her while she bathed. Unaware of his mother’s instructions, Ganesha diligently stood guard at the door.
One day, Lord Shiva, Parvati's husband, arrived and was surprised to find Ganesha blocking his way. Not recognizing him, Shiva asked to be let inside, but Ganesha, fulfilling his duty, refused. Angered, Shiva, in a fit of rage, beheaded Ganesha with his trident.
When Parvati saw her son lifeless, she was heartbroken and demanded that Ganesha be brought back to life. Realizing his mistake, Shiva promised to restore Ganesha. He sent his followers to bring back the head of the first living being they encountered, which happened to be an elephant. Shiva attached the elephant's head to Ganesha’s body, reviving him, and blessed him to be worshipped first among all gods.
This story highlights themes of loyalty, devotion, and the power of a mother’s love, making Ganesha a beloved figure in Hindu culture.
