  • Not only faster but healthier for you than Chinese takeout, this homemade Sesame Orange Chicken recipe uses egg whites instead of whole eggs in the batter, creating a crispier coating. Spoon it over a plate of fluffy rice and dig in! The original calls for shrimp, but you can
    sub in chicken, no problem.

This looks delicious! Can I ask one thing, though? The volume on your videos is very low, compared with most videos on RUclips (I can barely hear it when my speakers are at 100%); this is also true for your co-hosts on this channel. Could you please increase the volume on your videos?!!? Thanks! (I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this problem...)

I made this recipe tonight for dinner using shrimp as is in the original recipe. First off, the batter would not stay on the shrimp, it all came off immediately as they hit the hot oil. Secondly, although this recipe had good flavor, it was too sweet for my liking. My husband added spicy Sechzewan (sp?) sauce to his to cut the sweetness and I loaded on more soy sauce. It was okay but I don't think I'll be making this one again. I love most of the recipes from Sarah but not too crazy about this one. Oh well.

FYI: the batter slid off immediately because your oil wasn't hot enough.

Can I use something other than corn starch? Like almond flour or all purpose flour? I try to stay away from corn nowadays.

This was so good. However I tasted it before the sauce, it was better for me. Still a close call.

    My two cents:
This is not a terrific method. The chicken you've fried is likely to become soggy and the sauce not thickened enough.
    You might try this:
Add soy sauce, and honey to the sauce recipe (orange juice out of a carton works just fine).
IMPORTANT! Instead of adding the cornstarch to the sauce, prepare a cornstarch slurry (2 tablespoon of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of COLD water mixed together), add the sauce to the pan and cook it for a bit then add the slurry to the cooking sauce and stir until it thickens THEN add the chicken when you have a sauce consistency that you like.
