I learnt my lesson on scope mounts 20 yrs ago if it isn't adjusting as expected then check your scope mounts even if it means retorquing mounts in the field 90% its that then 10% scope 0% ammo.
I had this problem with my no4 mk1 enfield. Gunsmith told me last 4” of barrel were wore out. He cut 4” off and crowned the barrel for me. It shot decent groups after that.
Thank you for posting this as I got a similar mount here in the UK for my LE No. 4 MkII AND… by total, coincidence I found the same scope as you in my local Gunshop secondhand so exactly the same set up. Good see and hear your views.
i always found lead bullets were more accurate than full metal jacket rounds. i used to shoot 180 grain soft point then my buddy handloaded some 165 grain for it. price of ammo now a day it gets very expensive
When I sight in a scope. I always run a bore snake through after every round and let the barrell cool for about 3 minutes between shots. I have several Leupold scopes as well as a Nikon and Vortex. My favorite is the Leupold. I have never had any issues and they hold their zero perfectly. I would imagine that the Sellier and Bellot ammo was loaded inconsistantly and that could have caused the inaccurate points of impact.
I think it may have something to do with how the Scope mount was attached to the rifle. It's probably canted such that I had to max out the reticle to the bottom. Not really an issue now since on subsequent range trips, it was zeroed at 100 yards.
303 with 174 fmj for accuracy also when adjusting a 1/4 inch scope inwards from hundred remember to multiply by 4 aditional for every 25 closer iow 25 yds x 16 clic 50 yds x12 clic 75yds x8 clic 100 yds x4 clic =1 inch best of luck and good shooting!
I know this is older, but I think your magazine problem is the spring, but can also happen with damage to the magazine. Also lubricate your bolt in a little rails that it slides on. My 303 is my baby and I love it; the only thing I don’t love is finding ammunition and the price. Mine is a number for Mark one British.
i have one that is sporterized as well, 20 inch barrel and a boyds stock that i put on, i used the Addley precision scope mount which is very solid. the other thing i did was reface the barrel end and recrowned it with an 11 degree crown, i shoot 150 gr PPU at 100yrds with just inside a 1 inch group, the rifle is a savage made #4 mk1 * with a 2 groove barrel. i personally did not sporterize it they were barreled actions sitting in the corner of a pawn shop i got both for 150.00. the other rifle i setup the same way and both shoot great.
The only reason I can think of it shooting that high inconsistently, is the height over bore of the scope. It might help to take it to a flat 100 yard range, and see if you can remedy the issue there. Besides that keep up the Great work!
I agree. Not sure if I can get it much lower though. Great suggestion on going to a flat 100 yard range. We need to do that for sure. Thanks for watching!
Could you please tell us more about the recoil pad? Manufacturer, did you purchase online and if so where, etc. Having a hard time finding one. Thanks.
Beutiful rifle, I want one so bad. I have learned in the past to sight a rifle in with the ammo you plan to use to hunt with. Most places don't allow hunting with full metal jacket ammo. Thumbs up on the vidio though
I'd almost say copper fouling. Clean the barrel with bore solvent every third shot to get yourself on bulls. What's the crown looking like? Lastly shooting technique
Rare to see left hand model ; (now I see that the film clip must have been back the front) I grew up with them in Oz. Great military rifle for their time, but as a sporter they have a few problems.
PPU is a boatail projectile,S&b is flat based thats the difference.Try remington coreloct 180s they are flat based like the s&b.Will shoot a larger group than the s&b but are are great hunting round out to 200 metres.
Great video. Like your easy-going style. My unaltered No4 also had its own quirks. Seems my problem was bedding. I watched a few RUclips videos to get much more consistency. I used part of a linseed oil soaked heavy duty paper towel.
Have to agree with Steve. I sporterized a "Junk Gun" in a composite stock. I had some problems with it jumping all over. A little attention to the bedding with some Acuglass solved the issue.
I've noticed that the ejection of the spent cases on Lee-Enfield rifles is much weaker than equivalent bolt action guns from the same era e.g Mosin, Mauser etc... The brass just barely makes it away from the action...
@@MisterBrewer Maybe something to do with cocking on closed? Cocking on open might need more rearward force on the bolt handle? Would the stiffness of the magazine spring make any difference?
Could a gunsmith tap it further along the barrel to mount a small long eye relief scope as on a scout rifle? That should hold zero & be lighter to carry & good for quick shots in woodland.
how was the removal of the rear pin retaining wire, its stuck on mine and no matter how i hammer it its not budging.... no gun smiths in the area so im gonna have to file, Dremel or drill it out
These retaining wires can be hard to remove, so use as much muscle as you need to get it out. You won't be reusing it anyway. I removed mine with a combination of hammer, steel punch and molegrips. The gun itself needs to be held securely during this removal process.
The wire has started to rivet and now looking like a nail head, didn't want to damage it any further. It's now wedge shaped and the punch slides off and scratches off the black coat, local gun shop has another store next town over to smith it out.
The scope is too high, clean the barrel after 5 shots , then let it cool down and sight in 3" high at 100 yards for an approximate 200 yard zero, depending on bullet weight. It is best to make your own loads for "consistent accuracy" By loading your own cartridges, you can tailor the loads to suit this rifle.

That 303 your showing has left hand bolt all the 303 was right hand bolt that mount want work because of the eject of shells I had one just as u see invideo my first deer rifle I bought at 16 years old I'm now 66 accurate at iron sight flip 100 meter flip 300 do the math meter versus feet the rifle wasn't designed for scope
@@MisterBrewer Oh okay, I'm from South Africa, we are allowed to hunt with full metal jacket rounds with our P14 303. & Lee Enfield 303. Also don't lose as much meat.
Why do you have your camera in mirror image at the start? Everything is reversed as you are showing off the backwards scope mount, bolt and safety backwards.... At least when you got to the shooting area the image returned to normal. I'd try to zero at 100 yards. You have simple options to either "shim" the scope rail or "Mill" scope rail and scope base true flat or even mill the rail slightly to give an angle. See a machinist or good gunsmith.
Hi there; when i scope my No4 with a no-drill mount, it also climbs vertically. I captured the phenomena recently ruclips.net/video/zOyzBm97Sk8/видео.html part of me thinks it's the mount because the issue does not seem to manifest when i shoot with peep sights.
Very interesting. Mine seems to have "stabilized" finally. I took it to the range last weekend and it shot bullseyes with the 180 grain PPU softpoint. Not sure how much I can trust it though, but I want to! I filmed the shooting but didnt get the target on film so havent posted the video for that reason. I want to take it deer hunting with the scope on it. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience!

Beautiful rifles
I had this problem with my no4 mk1 enfield. Gunsmith told me last 4” of barrel were wore out. He cut 4” off and crowned the barrel for me. It shot decent groups after that.
Those sporterized 303 are surprisingly comfortable to carry in the field. Reasonably light
Thank you for posting this as I got a similar mount here in the UK for my LE No. 4 MkII AND… by total, coincidence I found the same scope as you in my local Gunshop secondhand so exactly the same set up. Good see and hear your views.

303 are zeroed at 200 yes. Expect high shots at closer range. 393 does not have wondering zeros. You barrel may be worn out.

If the last round is not loading, just buy replacement springs, they are available and will rectify the weak loading issue.

Those first few minutes of the rifle looking like it was left handed was doing my head in lol😅
That's why you adjust left right first then elevation separately

303's and scopes are a dark art
My first deer was taken with a mk 3, .303 British
Hornady light magnum ammo
You need a scope with more adjustment. Leupold don’t have a lot. Maybe a Vortex scope. They seem to have a lot of adjustment

You can't legally hunt with full metal jacket projectiles in my state and most states in the US because it doesn't expand upon impact and wounds game.
