  • What would DISNEY Dreamlight Valley look like as Free-to-Play, do we really want that? Reddit is actually much less toxic than twitter when it comes to DDV!

    I did see comments on Rapunzel's model
    One of the many comments were she had no forehead and her eyebrows were too high but you can see from movie photos it's the exact same size.
    You described the characters models completely right, they're never gonna look exactly like the movies ESPECIALLY the human characters! It's super hard making a human likeness as opposed to the animal characters or non human ones.

    If they didn't continue to have microtransactions what would we spend our Dreamsnaps moonstone on? What would be the point of participating with nothing to "buy"?

  • @DavidChilson
    @DavidChilson 11 месяцев назад +2

    In my opinion, a Free 2 Play DDV would've likely reduced the importance/role of Dreamlight Points and Starcoins in favor of using Moonstones to build Character's Houses, open up Biomes/Realms, and upgrading the different Buildings/Stalls.
    I'd imagine Merlin's and Scrooge's dialog/quests would've been changed to explain what Moonstones were.

    I agree with the Reddit poster about F2P and predatory hell. All F2P games are predatory hell and had DDV gone F2P I would have stopped playing it. Well done!
    This game has great potential. I'm excited to see how far the developers will take it.
    If you are playing on a switch... it will not get better. Ever! PC is the only way to game and almost every game in existence is available to play with no begging devs to update the game to suit your outdated system. It takes away from time spent on actual game development.

  • @audreysamandler
    @audreysamandler 11 месяцев назад +3

    I never wanted free to play but I have 3 things to say
    1 I'm worried (I hope that the stream tomorrow will make my worry disappear) that the dlc will be too often. I'm ok paying 1or2 times a year 30 bucks. But not every 2/3 months ..
    2 if the game is now a paid game, they NEED to work on the gameplay on switch or stop releasing on switch completely
    3 I still can understand people who waited for f2p to play and lost more than a year of gameplay. I won't diminished their feeling

    • @TheseLovelyPaws
      @TheseLovelyPaws 11 месяцев назад +2

      If I knew it would be so laggy/ buggy on switch I would have just gotten it for PC. I agree that it shouldn’t be sold on switch if it’s going to have so many problems (especially with them adding more to the game soon) R.I.P to all my fellow switch players out there!!

    • @audreysamandler
      @audreysamandler 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheseLovelyPaws yeah switch players are really disrespected...
      I bought the game a 2nd time for my pc, but my pc is old and also made for work so the game lags a lot so I'm stuck for now with my switch. Hence why I think if it's now a paid game this needs to change or just be discontinued

    • @FigaroKinjo
      @FigaroKinjo 11 месяцев назад +2

      I play on switch, I do not have any problems, no crash, no bugs besides what all players got such as only red flowers in frosted which now is fixed.

      @audreysamandler 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@FigaroKinjo good for you.
      I didn't say all switch players.
      But I think it's a good percentage that have issues
      And even with less bugs, still an item limit of 3000. At one point we won't even be able to place the house's characters.
      So I will continue to say if now the game is a paid game this needs to be addressed or stop being released.

    It annoys me when people assume it would have more microtransactions as a free to play game, because there are a lot of free to play games that are not like that at all. They designed the game to be free to play from the start, so it would likely remain how it is now if it was free. There is no indication that they were ever going to charge for stuff like backpack space. If you go by this assumption, then that means you think they were planning to charge for all that stuff originally, but it doesn't seem like they were.

    • @TheDeborah0101
      @TheDeborah0101 11 месяцев назад

      The problem is that DDV started microtransactions during development. That's rare. So, if they started them during development then it's a certainty they would only get worse. The microtransactions listed in this video are an example of what could happen... not what will happen.

    • @Lilitha11
      @Lilitha11 11 месяцев назад

    Great video as always Mr. Starman👍
    I think once people hear what Gameloft has to say, I think things may calm down. People are more reactionary nowadays instead of stepping back and thinking a bit on it.
    I think pay to play is the way to go. I am so excited for what is to come. All these negative people haven't stopped to think of what would happen to the game and all the changes that would happen if it went F2P.
    It won't/can't remain as it is now. Many people need to be paid for their work on the game. The 20 minutes of credits at the end of Act 1 show that.
    I'm excited to see the transition and be a part of that, and the community as we go forward.

    I have been playing Disney Magic Kingdoms for about 2 years now (a supposedly "free to play" game). To advance in the game, they expect you to pay $20-30 PER MONTH to get premium characters. If you don't buy, you cannot win prizes and unlock characters, etc. They also have "competitive" offers that are a gamble. Keep Dreamlight as is and charge for complete upgrades.

    For me the problem I have with Disney Dreamlight Valley just announcing that they are not going Free to Play is I didn't want to spend at minimum 40 dollars Canadien just for the standard edition for something I can't physically hold in my hands when it was going to come out Free to Play the following year. I just wasted 13 months minimum worth of time I could have been playing not to mention all the star path items I could possibly never get a chance at. Is my issue with it. If they had just announced it has a paid game from the start I would have just paid it from the start.

      It pays not to wait. Many games do this. F2P is the worst type of gaming, and the developers realized DDV could be an epic game by not going F2P. I bought it on day one, thinking it would not go F2P. The reason is that the game has great potential and is unique. My intuition paid off. I'm very glad that it did.

    I rarely comment however I think the outrage is from a majority of disney people who never have been in the gaming community before...I get being upset especially about wanting to switch consoles and having to repay for the game. Maybe they can make the download free. But need an account. They do need to change and tweak things now that it's not free to play. But there's a group that isn't willing to see what else they are going to offer and see what they are gonna say at the live. Which is annoying in my opinion. Let's hear them out. They might explain themselves

    2:00 I know it’s exaggerated but that’s not how most reputable F2P games are made. One free game I play, Sky: Children of the Light, started off on mobile and its microtransactions are mostly fair. It’s fairly easy to earn the in-game currency both from just running around the world and from daily quest. Of you really want to you can also spend money on it to get those. They’ve even made it so that events have their own event currency so that way you can just save up your in-game currency for items you really want and can still partake and get the event items. Granted it’s not perfect but the games been going strong for 4 years now and is on consoles like switch, PS4, and soon Steam, so I’d say it’s doing pretty good for itself

    I feel that most of those going off the rails are not too familiar with live-service games. Elder Scrolls Online is one I used to play often, and sometime still do. Think the moonstone prices for a house skin is bad in DDLV? The top tier premium homes in ESO will cost you $100 USD for ONE, the others can run from $15-70. Want the consumables/craft bag space? You HAVE to have a sub starting at $15/month. While the sub will give you access to all released expansions, if you stop the sub, you lose that access. Also, you will still need to purchase items in the cash shop. Sure, they give you 1400 store currency per month, but that doesn't go too far. AND they also use hidden item loot boxes that you sometimes can earn free, but are also paid with money.
    Granted, there is years worth of content, but it takes money to get it. if you get just the base game, you're fine (but still have to purchase it), as they'll release an offer to include all past expansion areas with the purchase of a new one. But for all the extras and glitter...it will cost you.

    I agree with their decision about not going FTP. I haven't bought moonstones or put any money into this game besides buying it from the get go. I will be buying the DLC because I do love this game so much. I don't feel the need to purchase moonstones because of Dreamsnaps and I don't have FOMO so I don't NEED to buy everything in the shop. And I am good with that. Everyone has their own play style and DLV listening to their players, making updates (free, QOL, etc) is fantastic. I will support a game with purchasing DLC's because of that and because it's a game I really enjoy playing. And I do see this game as a long-term game that I see myself enjoying over the years.

    The people complain about a game that canceled free to play after going a year with making us think that it’s gonna be free to bring is negative but yet you make a video and have a thumbnail About how free to play probably look with in this game is very hypocritical there’s a lot of good free to play games that know how to monetize Dreamlight valley showed a time and time again they do not know how to monetize with the premium shop and then also canceling the free to play after showing another thing you can buy the cozy edition. I just love how people think that people with “” negative opinions about the game is invalid but all I see is nothing but delusion because there’s no other gameplay besides catering to the building simulating community. this is why I don’t like people they literally are hypocrites about how they actually proceeded to do stuff and judge people

    Can people not do basic math…. Look at the pay walled quests… 4K moonstones… if you don’t get enough moonstones from dreamsnaps to pay for it, it’s 35$ and what comes with it??? NOTHING. That’s what you get with free to play… it’s PAYWALLED TO ALL HELL. A paid game you get QUALITY dlc for a reasonable price. Compare it. Wall e quest got what? A boot, two outfits, a skin, a quest…. This new paid dlc has what? An entire world with 4 biomes, multiple characters… new content all together, furniture, resources, quests, clothing and so on…. Every free to play game you’ll end up paying way more money than paying a one time cost for the game. And dude…. The game isn’t expensive…. It’s also bullshit that people who actually were interested in this game, PAID TO PLAY IT EARLY ACCESS… while these whiners are crying they can’t play the game we funded for free… like what?!? I think that it's been pretty split in the community. A lot of people waited for free to play because it was stated over and over again. Almost promised with how much we were getting updated. I have been playing for over a year and have almost 1.1k hours in the game. With them not warning people and then coming out with.... "pay us or you lose access". It's just a bad way for them to phrase it. If this had been the expectation all along- this wouldn't be a shock. However, with so many people waiting for free to play and this change seems out of nowhere. They would have done better letting thousands of people down easy than pulling the rug out from under them. Yes, everyone needs to get paid, but if it was set up correctly like sims with zero expectation of free to play. They would be sitting pretty on people signing up.
