  • Action SA leader Herman Mashaba exposes the Elephant in the Rainbow Alliance room for all to see - and urges that unless the anti-ANC alliance gets past this, the DA’s proposed Moonshot Pact is a dead duck. Mashaba shares the events leading up to the contentious vote for a new Mayor of Johannesburg, explaining how the obvious lessons must be absorbed by opposition parties if they are to have any hope of governing South Africa in a successful coalition after the 2024 National Election.

Unstable coalitions that includes the DA doesn't work (playing boss). Gayton is a loose canon (unfortunately), and can't be trusted, his track record shows that. Coalitions with the DA is seen by the voters as DA-led (as the second biggest party), and when they fall apart or the specific metro become ungovernable, the DA is seen as the failed specific government in that context, be it local or municipal. I understand their reluctance to work with the PA completely. Rather let them fail as government, without hurting the DA image. They are not interested in serving the people, they are in government for personal gain and influence. They have shown zero loyalty to the coalition and continue to make unreasonable demands when they see fit. They make the coalition, they break the coalition. They essentially have each coalition partner by the balls. When the ANC and EFF come with a better deal, the PA bails. You cannot work with people like this. But the DA is the problem, right? Categorically you just said that you have no problem with the DA fielding their candidate but let’s do it in a way that ensures as the coalition we get a good person with a good majority so that decisions and good governance can be unimpeded
There is no point fielding a candidate like the DA but they not speaking to anyone which simply sets them up to fail
I am lost for words , gobsmacked that a party like the DA are blind to this
Honestly it’s poking at my core that they speak about a moonshot pact and presented a way to prosperity but when it comes to actioning that so call plan they fall apart
At the recent BN conference we heard there how the DA previously changed their minds over a weekend after agreeing on something
Is this the real DA, when one peels back the layers it’s exposing a party not sincere and lacking leadership on how to work in coalitions .
With this opportunity currently presenting itself for the birth of a Golden Coalition to demonstrate that they can set aside differences and work together solidly to get this country right and as a prelude to what can be expected nationally , logic fails me that a party like the DA needs convincing considering that JHb metro is at stake . Here is an opportunity by swallowing pride and treating people with respect that the city can have a large majority to bring about much change that all South Africans are begging for .
We as South Africans need to watch this closer
The DA are displaying arrogance at the cost of our votes
Should they fail to exercise humility and come to the party for a far greater good for this country , the opportunity to eradicate corruption and mismanagement will be lost.

The PA and ActionSA are small parties and their roles in governance of Johannesburg can still be important, just not the mayor. in other words, like any business, the person with the most shares is the chairman or CEO. Here we have small parties that by rights would not have had any governance position if they were to try wining a position on the council and have never truly run a municipality. This is a ridiculous situation and coalition agreements need to reflect the positions in the hierarchy and the positions must remain the same until the next election. This vote of no confidence is bs if it does not subscribe to that.
