  • In Part One of this narrated Richmond walk, we explore picture-perfect streets and amble along beautiful Richmond riverside. The 'lost palace' of Richmond upon Thames may be rather hard to track down these days, but Maids of Honour Row is one of the finest Georgian terraces in the country. If mooching around a town accompanied by a long coffee or a pub lunch in cosy spots is your thing, then Richmond is likely a perfect place for you. This part of the Richmond walk takes around 45 minutes, but you may take A LOT longer to enjoy everything:) If you're a fan of Ted Lasso, you'll spot some familiar spots too!
    Part Two of this walk (next video) takes us from Richmond Bridge, up Richmond Hill and into Richmond Park, so do check it out.

    Lovely video. For reference, if you're ever in Richmond again - you can indeed walk through Old Palace Yard. You'll pass some lovely historic homes including one called, "The Wardrobe" - an original part of the palace.

    Nothing could make me happy today but this video. I worked at The White Cross in 1990 and 1991. In those years, the name of this Pub was ''The White Cross Hotel''. I will never forget Quentin and Denise, the managers of the Pub. You should see this place when the Thames overflows. It's been 30 years but everything looks the same. I miss London so much. Thank you very much for the videos.

    Hello Angela
    Welcome back. Great video. Thanks for the shout outs. We have been to Richmond. We celebrated Sandra's 50th at Jamie Olivers restaurant after visiting Kew Gardens in 2015. That restaurant is now called Sebastian's which you mention in your walk. We will visit Richmond again. We hope to be back in April. Thanks again for the walk looking forward to part 2. Take Care Chris and Sandra of Canada.

    Very lovely to hear you mention some of your subscribers having learned of you from WW's channel. I myself discovered your channel quite independently of WW when I came across your lovely video of Victoria train station. It's also rather cosy to see some familiar names from WW's channel also subscribed here, including WW himself.
    I haven't really explored Richmond but very much want to, especially after watching this. Your video was a great learning tool actually. I would love to take that riverboat tour that runs between Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens. Ironically I am familiar with both those places, especially Kew!
    I had no idea about Richmond Green. Looks a lovely place, huge grass park and I loved the period houses on the perimeter, interspaced with a street cafe or two. If one lived there, one could so easily walk the proverbial 10,000 steps a day around that whole area (though good to explore elsewhere too of course!)
    Your comment about the high tide is a good reminder that although the Thames is a river, it has tides just like the sea.
    Your video finished very nicely with that silver sports car framed right in the middle of two stair pillars!
    Looking forward to Richmond Part 2 in due course.

      Thank you so much for your kind comment, much appreciated:) It is so nice to have a lovely community around these walking channels. BTW, when I was researching this walk, something called the battle of Kew Bridge came up in relation to (I think) Italian PoWs and the locals - an interesting read. All the best, Angela

      @@ChattyWalkswithAngela Hello again Angela. I see you've been catching up on comments earlier today. Yes, there is really such a lovely community spirit with these walking channels, especially yours and WW's. There are so many of these channels now and I can barely keep up! Of course, I'd like to actually explore these places in person too, especially with Christmas coming up. Of course, many of these channels will be filming at Christmas too, not to mention all the various Christmas videos from past years! As for Battle of Kew Bridge - that sounds like battling out with those Range Rovers headed to Richmond! Anyhow, take care and I'm going to make time soon to view your 2nd Richmond video soon.

    Hello Angela. Watched this whilst on the stationary bike..and loved it!
    Re: Folks looking at you when you're filming and walking. I wonder if you wore an over-the-ear headset with extended mouth piece, it would divert others attention away from the fact you are also filming and make folks think you are on the phone to someone? You can just tuck the wire into a pocket and use it purely as a prop. And if you're concerned it might muffle your own hearing, have a single (rather than double) ear headset plus not have it actually resting on your ear. Since you have long hair, no one would ever notice!

    • @ChattyWalkswithAngela
      @ChattyWalkswithAngela  3 года назад

      The funny thing is I do have a single ear headset and have done exactly that with it!!! My 'new' set up is to very clearly have a tablet with me in one hand, 'apparently' reading off the screen and talking, with the Osmo Pocket in the other hand filming. Having a screen to look at helps distract me from noticing people (and I hope causes a bit of confusion - perhaps I am talking to someone on the screen?!), but can also distract me from noticing bits of the walk that may be interesting. The funny thing was the guy who started talking to me who clearly didn't fall for my 'disguise' at all! All the best, Angela

    • @ibs5080
      @ibs5080 3 года назад

      @@ChattyWalkswithAngela Oh goodess, I guess there will always be a few challenges with that. As for the guy that started talking with you, you handled it very nicely. Perhaps he was just wanting to be chatty and friendly. I have to rewind to see again the content of the conversation. Does your headset also have an extendable microphone mouthpiece? Because I would imagine having that as part of the headset prop might further reduce interruptions. But maybe you will tell me you already have all that!

    Hello Angela! I visited Richmond upon Thames four weeks ago and walked almost all the areas you covered in this video. I'd actually travelled the same day from Darlington, in the North East, which is very close to Richmond, North Yorkshire! I visit there often as it takes minutes from my home in my car and I definitely recommend you come up here and walk around the town! Just a heads up if you do.... It's hilly, so quite hard on the old knees at times 😘 xx

      That's fantastic Deborah - quite a trip in one day. Did you at least stay over? I genuinely would love to walk around the 'other' Richmond, so now you've told me that it's going on the list😁 The knees will have to lump it. All the best, Angela

      @@ChattyWalkswithAngela Hello Angela! I stayed for two days in nearby Chiswick (where my son lives), then went on to stay with another relative in Hampshire for a week, before heading back to London (Brentford) for another week. I went for the first time to Kew Gardens my second day in Chiswick, then spent the next day all around the South Bank before heading to Hampshire in the evening. Between watching you and Watched Walker, I think I impressed my son with my improved knowledge of London haha 😂 BTW, I've now watched the second part of your Richmond walk, and all I can say is, I'm glad I was spared that walk that day on my arrival down South! Brilliant video BTW! So pleased you're thinking of visiting my neck of the woods, there are some beautiful and interesting places to visit up here too xx

    • @ChattyWalkswithAngela
      @ChattyWalkswithAngela  2 года назад

      Wow, that was quite a trip about! Is there anything on the South Bank that you found interesting - I love the South Bank and hope to film the Christmas market there, so am interested in the visitor's point of view. And yes, your comment has definitely helped move the 'other' Richmond up the list of places to visit. All the best, Angela

      @@ChattyWalkswithAngela Just to give a bit of background, I've been travelling up and down the country regularly this year as my son was diagnosed with cancer (he lives in London). At the end of each of his cycles of chemotherapy, we stayed at a relative's house in Hampshire. The period mentioned here was between my son completing his chemotherapy, and prior to surgery, hence spending a few intense days together to take our minds off it. The South Bank area is just so vibrant, I love it just for it's atmosphere. We also went on an Uberboat to Greenwich, the first time I'd been, and I loved there too (not sure if you've made a video of Greenwich). I know you've made a bus tour somewhere in London, do you think a video of a boat trip is a good idea!? It gives you a different perspective of some of the famous landmarks I think. From Greenwich, we took the DLR to the city which was interesting for me too! If you need any information before filming up North, I'd be happy to help xx

    • @ChattyWalkswithAngela
      @ChattyWalkswithAngela  2 года назад +1

      Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear that, what a very difficult time for you and your family, I really do send you my best wishes and hopes for his full recovery. You don't need me to tell you how much progress has been made these days with cancer treatments and therapies, so I can only wish you well with it all. But it's a lot to take on. And thank you for the suggestion. A number of people have requested Greenwich, so it's on the to-do list. I would love to record a boat trip if they let me - as it's a private business, I am supposed to get their permission, and being very rule oriented I can't bring myself not to - so I'll see if I can. And yes, DLR to the City is a great idea, so I'll put that on the list too:) All the best, Angela
