A huge shout out and salute to BRO for achieving this super challenging feat in such a short span of time. Also, cheers to the SNG team and @amitabhrevi for bringing us up close to these frontiers. The journey - so far - has been no less than an arduous adventure.
It is not a true third corridor as Tandi Darcha serves both routes. The true third link will be Jammu to Ladakh with a 16.5 km tunnel (5.1% grade) under the Himalayas from Bhuzas, altitude 3380 metres (on a tributory of the Bhut Nalla river which is a tributory of the Chenab) and 35 km upstream of the Chenab at Padder, to the Dzongkul Valley, altitude 4220 metres, and 16 km of the Padum-Kargil road near Phey on the Zanskar River. About 70 km of two lane road (Padder-Phey road), of which about 16.5 km will be the Bhuzas-Dzongkul tunnel is required for a true third corridor to Ladakh. The Srinagar-Kargil road is a maximum 286 km north west of the Tandi-Darcha road. If the Zojila pass or tunnel is blocked, the Srinagar-Kargil distance (~190 km) becomes about 750 km. The Padder-Phey road will reduce this to about 500 km. The separation of the Srinagar-Kargil road reduces from 286 km to 182 km. While the tunnel will be 16.5 to 17 km long, it will be the only tunnel between the Chenab and Indus valleys.
Hatt's off to the bravery & dedication of BRO personal & Indian Army for the fantastic efforts cause of them we civilians - Pan India feels safer & guarded! We owe our armed forces!
Subject: Application for Completion of Pending Work on Nimmoo-Padum-Darcha Road Dear Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Team, I am writing to bring to your attention the recent completion of the strategic Nimmoo-Padum-Darcha (NPD) road in Ladakh on 25th March 2024. This significant development has connected a vital 298 kilometers route, bridging Manali to Leh through Darcha and Nimmoo on the Kargil-Leh Highway. The Nimmoo-Padum-Darcha Road stands as the third axis to connect Ladakh, offering a shorter alternative compared to the other three axes: Darcha-Padum-Lingshed-Leh, Darcha-Padum-Rangdum-Leh, and Darcha-Sarchu-Upshi-Leh. While commendable progress has been made, I would like to draw your attention to the pending work on the NPD Road. Currently, the road consists of: Total NPD Road Length: 298 km Blacktoped Dual Lane Completed: 148 km Widening Completed, but Blacktop Pending: 84 km Widening & Blacktop Both Pending: 52 km The completion of the remaining 52 kilometers, encompassing both widening and blacktopping, is critical to optimizing the functionality and safety of the Nimmoo-Padum-Darcha Road. It is imperative that this pending work be addressed promptly to fully realize the benefits of this strategic route. Therefore, I respectfully request the Border Roads Organisation to prioritize the completion of the 52 kilometers pending work on the NPD Road. By doing so, you will not only enhance connectivity but also contribute significantly to the development and accessibility of the region. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust in your commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the pending work on the Nimmoo-Padum-Darcha Road. Sincerely,
Let us not forget to thank and appreciate the workers who built the road in harsh conditions! The BJP Government is doing a great job by putting resources to build these roads which is critical to keep the Chinese Monster at bay! The previous Congress Governments NEGLECTED India’s defense needs. Now the BRO is working hard to catch up with the wasted years by Indira Congress Government.
The other thing is that such roads should not be opened to tourists / civilians from other parts of the country so as to maintain the fragile ecology and environment. Save these areas from plastic pollution.
In the event of a conflict with China how will we protect these fragile road systems lying deep in gorges from drone and missile attacks? The focus must be on defending the integrity of these tunnels and roads as well.
Some points you mentioned here are not true: 1. East India company did not put kalapani Lipulek Limpiyadhura in British india map in 1860 as you claimed in here. 2. Limiyadhura Lipulek, Kalapani area was occupied and populated by local tribes since thousands of years. They have very old culture and traditions. 3. Kalapani, Gunji, Kuti, Nabi villages been occupied by local tribes since thousands of years. Their land ragistry records, tax records, voter registration list all up to date in nepal darchula and Baitadi district offices until 1962. 4. All old maps also proove, that area clearly belong to only Nepal.
