Getting to the hills is so complicated, after Lower North East Road, the path splits so much, one I went one way and the next time I did it and I saw different things!!!! Mick needs to show me how! Lol. You should have made an uncut video.
I know right! It's so annoyingly complicated! and it would be such an awesome ride for people if it was signed properly! did you make it all the way to the end??
This path is amazing - hard to believe you are traversing the suburbs while you are surrounded by greenery, wetlands and tall trees . Last time I saw two koalas in the trees. I cannot wait for the new path to open at St Peters - the detour is a pain. You can easily ride either side of the river, so north/west side going up and south/east side coming back. The tricky part is all the short branch paths that connect to the residential streets - these have to be ignored, so follow the river not the busway. There are some steep sections once you go past Lower NE road, so it can be challenging for some riders. That section also has concrete paving which has lifted and can be hazardous in places. Smart option for new riders is to ride to OG Road, Klemzig first. Next time continue to Sudholz Road, Paradise. When those sections are sorted, on the next ride continue to the end point at Gorge Road Athelstone. The first time I made it to the end I was so elated I rode back to the Torrens outlet at Henley Beach - West Beach - Glenelg - Goodwood. About 75k which was a new record for me. Enjoy this ride - it is world class and there are no road crossings. Thanks Serafina.
Wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing the added detailed directions and path description for new riders 😃👊 it's such a beautiful ride and the more people who get to enjoy it the better! 💗🚴♂️🚴♀️🚴♂️🚴♀️🚴♂️🚴♀️🚴♂️
Lucky enough to live right next to the trail in Athelstone; it's easier to navigate going back towards the city/beach. It is a great ride and easy to mix it up using different sides (or the Highbury Aqueduct trail) + season changes - seems fresh even riding it weekly!
I did this ride yesterday on my heavy MTB. Went all the way to the dead end though. It was an awesome ride except there were people and dogs everywhere. I had no idea where I was but your directions were spot on. Mind you, they have construction detours around town plus the path past the houses onto the road has construction on them at the moment too. Looks like they are upgrading them a little. I took a couple of wrong turns on the way back but I didn't mind that. The views are awesome! I'm not a hill person at all and was amazed at my attempts on two of them. Nearly got all the way to the top on them. One hill I walked as I talked myself out of it when I saw it after my quarter failed hill before it .. lol. Thanks for sharing this as I've wanted to know what the path was like towards the hills. The birds, trees, river, historic buildings and artwork are all worth the effort of riding that far not to forget the fairy town you see too.
Hi Diana, so glad you rode it! 😃 yes, some of those hills are quite steep, I had to walk one of them the last time I rode it as I forgot to change to an easier gear! It is such a beautiful ride, and good that you don't mind getting lost, it always happens on that path and just adds to the adventure 😁 thanks for sharing and the updates on the construction/roadworks 🙏🚴♀️💗
Ok cool so couple of things. 1/ I have the exact same Merida. Nice bike! 2/ I commuted from TTP to the city for work every day and I still often got lost (mostly in the dark). Sooooo happy to hear I’m not the only one 😂
Thanks for this Serafina, have looked at doing this a couple of times, just need to get out to do it. One thing to note, perhaps slipping in a map overview pointing out the turns may also help for the future. I tried to follow along with a map on another screen, figured out the first couple of turns but couldn't work out the other points you turned at.
It’s that bloody O Bahn that discombobulates me and then the river sweeps around further confusing things. I do however, love that ride up to Athestone. Just one thing, the disco bridge he referred to is the Sir Doug Nicholls Bridge. He was Australia’s first indigenous governor as well as a minister and VFL footballer. He deserves so much more than a bridge, but it is a nice bridge.
Oh cool! Thanks for sharing about Sir Doug Nicholls 😀 wish I had known, would've definitely included in the video! Is there a plaque on the bridge? apparently it lights up at night.
Have done this ride several times now thanks to your video but I've only just caught the fact that he said there is a Beach to Corkscrew ride. Where can I find the beach to Corkscrew route? I'd love to try it.
The beach to Corkscrew is a great ride, but I haven't made a video about it yet! I need to do that 😁 you follow the river from the beach all the way up to the hills, when you get to the end, you come out onto Gorge Rd, head East on Gorge Rd for about 3 KMs and you'll see Corkscrew on the right 🚴♂️😃
Agree a very confusing ride, have ridden it a few times and never done the same route twice 😩. Surely it could be better marked, maybe like the blue dots on the ride around the cbd
That's a good idea! Easy to do and easy to follow, and a great way to keep it consistent for the entire length of the path (through the 9 different councils that it runs through!) 😀
So lucky I can cycle only 2.5km to this path from my house near the hills end. I ride to the city, ride to my regular Lochiel parkrun which is along this bike path at Campbelltown. On a hot summers day I can cycle all the way to the beach, get there in less than 90mins, have a swim then cycle home, a scenic uninterrupted journey combining swimming fun & cycling. It also links up with the O-Bahn bike path to the North East, bikepaths in the Adelaide parklands which in turn link to other bikeways such as the tramline, railway &, Westside bikeways that head South & South West. Oh Yeah, also at the West beach end it links to the bike paths along the coast.
I got lost on the part where they were doing construction. Me and my family were going to a park with some friends, and it was near where we live, so I decided to ride there instead of driving. I took this path and I didn't see the detour sign, so I came to the blocked off part and I was like "Uh oh, that's not very good." I had to go up on the other side to the hanging bridge and rode up the road to Robe Terrace where I had to get picked up by my mum. So this teaches everyone a lesson: Always pay attention to signs. :)
Hi Paul 😃 there's plenty of parking around there, you should be able to find a park ok. The trail starts a few km south of Henley beach, just follow the bike path south along the coast from Henley, it starts where the river meets the sea, there's a pelican on top of a pole there. You follow the bike path under the bridge and keep on the north side of the river Here's a link which should show you where to start River Torrens Linear Park Trail (08) 7424 7677 maps.app.goo.gl/o8XPfaVcDCJ7H6K57 hope that works 😃🚴♂️
This video I did might help, if you fast forward to about halfway, it shows you where the bike path comes out by the beach ruclips.net/video/l856WBlYIM4/видео.html
@@CyclewithSerafina great stuff now I know where start when I ride back the other way into the city. I will be taking my bike by car on a car bike rack to Henley Beach, do you know if there are plenty of car parking spaces at the beach end of the track?
It only took me 3 years to fully learn the full track without getting lost. The challenge now is to complete the track staying off the bike path and only using the gravel shortcuts.
It’s a great bike path, I know it well from many years of commuting, but I have never ventured much past Klemzig heading towards the hills. Great video! (I have spotted the occasional Koala along the path over the years as well) ruclips.net/video/PBYaDLHt5M8/видео.html

Yay! It's such a nice ride 😁 did you manage to do it without getting lost??
@@CyclewithSerafina yes and right to the end of the path just right next to Gorge Rd staying on the left hand side of the river near the end
@@roosterman42 Awesome!! well done 😀 that's so cool to hear!
The entire Linear Park ride, starting from the beach or the hills, and back is exactly 65km.
Awesome! Thanks! I was going to ride it in a week to map it out, you saved me the job! 😁👊
The highlight of this path is The Saint Peter's Billabong at sunrise. It's hard to find but is on the southern path of the river.
Is it near the city??
It only took me 3 years to fully learn the full track without getting lost. The challenge now is to complete the track staying off the bike path and only using the gravel shortcuts.
You can do the whole thing on gravel??! I've seen the gravel section between beach and city but didn't realise there was one between city and hills 😀
@@CyclewithSerafina I'd say about 40% of the river has hidden gravel/single tracks. Watch the dog walkers for tips where it is.
