I just wanted to add this little suggestion. I have made a quilt coat and used flannel instead of quilt batting because the cotton batting will eventually wear down after being subjected to many machine washings. The flannel can be quilted and looks just as nice as the regular cotton batting.
Thanks for the suggestion. I have done similar things on other projects, but I'm always struggling to stay warm so I have a thicker batting in my stash that I'm going to use because it is warmer than anything else I have. The washing and everything is why I'm going to be more particular about my quilting this time around. I view this like a quilt that would go on a bed. It's meant to be used, loved, washed, and repaired as needed and it's OK if it gets worn out eventually.

I love string quilts and recently I have seen them with the shape of the string area either being a hexagon which fascinates me or a circle which is then usually appliqué to a background Square. What are using for a base for the circular ones are coffee filters! Nice and expensive coffee filters from the dollar store. I can handle that!

should have washed my flannel lining with squares so they would have shrunk together.
you can print your own fabric, scan the fabric you need and print your own ….
This whole project is a stash buster so I'm happy to be using up fabrics and having to think of creative work arounds.
