I plan to switch to Linux in October 2025. Why doesn't Linux use a desktop environment just like Windows? I like Linux a lot because it gives you control over many things, but some aspects of Linux are difficult, or it doesn't let you do things that are very easy to do on Windows. I just don't get it.
Linux is my daily driver and when it comes to desktop environments you can take your pick..kde is alot like windows, gnome is great to use especially if you want a good implementation of touchpad gestures, cinnamon which linux mint uses is great for beginners...what things are you referring to exactly?
@@awkeye7 I have a laptop with Windows 10, but it doesn't meet the requirements for Windows 11. The laptop is quite powerful and feels like it was purchased only recently. However, it is from 2013. It has a battery life of about two hours, a touchscreen, an RJ45 network connection, a backlit keyboard, and a fingerprint login. A PC with all these features would cost around $1,000 today. I have upgraded the storage from an HDD to an SSD, and it works very fast without any problems. I don't want Microsoft to force me to buy a new laptop. Even though I like Windows, I think it's time to switch to a different system. I don't know which Linux distribution to switch to, but I want the least demanding one for beginners. Thank you for answering.

Excellent review, exactly what I wanted to see!

Ubuntu or Linux mint are good choices.
