That AirB&B owner is obviously only interested in the profit, not safety. They should be embarrassed and shown a poor rating. If the owner couldn’t “deliver” their product by clearing the drive then I’d think that’s grounds for a disputed charge…if paid via credit card.
The road didn’t look like it had any ice on it. Where the vehicle was in the ditch was probably County which the Cabin openers wouldn’t maintain. We have rented Cabins several times and all of them said in the agreement no refunds due to weather.
I don't know how it works now, but back when I used to use Airbnb a lot, a big issue was people being afraid to leave honest reviews. The owners also rate the guests, which impact if they're accepted as guests at other Airbnbs in the future. That prevented many people from leaving honest feedback (in fear of retaliatory reviews)

Too many incompetent people in the AirBnB/VRBO business. People think owning a rental is “passive income”. As someone with 15 properties, there’s nothing passive about it if you’re doing it right. Maintain your damn properties people!🤦♂️
Some people just don't look at the long term. If they put a little more into it, they would probably get a lot more out of it. Maintenance is a `must have` for AirBnB properties. I have stayed in a few and the quality of repair/maintenance has varied widely from poor to abysmal. Although I do recall staying in one in the south of the UK where even the fridge was loaded prior to arrival! Milk, butter and Margarine all laid on!
So what I'm gathering from your discussion is... Don't visit Gatlinburg in the winter time. Having said that, I'm reminded of a time 20-ish years ago that I drover the Tail of the Dragon, in the middle of the night, in the middle of winter, with over an inch of snow on the road... in a Miata... With summer tires on it. I'm surprised I made it through at all. Ahh, to be young and dumb again.
@@scottmichaels12 Oh, I've got 4WD. And I'm no stranger to crazy ice-covered roads. I live in Pittsburgh, PA. But those vacation rental driveways are on a whole other level.
Here in Candler NC . It used to be small town country with beautiful farmland and now it's all being developed ! 😞 For low income housing and trailer parks
I definitely learned my lesson in 2019 going to the mountains in the fall. It had been raining and leaves were slippery. Every time I go up to the mountains in the fall I just bring my leaf blower for this type of crap.
Went driving here in Australia to Blue rock Lake yesterday and we will return there soon ti fish for Bass. Love seeing the moutains around Gatlinburg and spending time with you both. ❤️
I'm surprised that Toyota and Ford even come in 2 wheel drive options. Also that road washout looks like the houses are holding up the rest of the hill, Or the water just funnels between them and that's why it washed out. Also it looks like trees were removed for probably another property. That can't help.
California has a LOT of roads wash out like that, especially in the coastal hills. One of my main commute roads was horrible one winter. Mud on top, mud leaving out from under - I never knew what I was going to encounter that particular winter. I do NOT miss it in the least bit! AirBnB with the horrible driveway - she needs a negative 5 star review left, calling her out. That's terrible to do to anybody. Why the HECK did she not get it salted? Kristin is SO right - it's totally preventable.
Why are there not retrtainer walls on these road. Trying to save that penny to end up in court losing it all. Insurance is only so good and never good enough.
You wouldn't. I live in Australia and I am a volunteer firefighter. The fire-fighters safety comes first. People come first. On a catastrophic day here we advise leave early. There are not enough resources, nor the correct access to fight fires in these regions.
@@ausladysadventures In Maine where I’m from. One town told a property owner we will not protect their new house if they build it. The property owner had taken a D9 Caterpillar and carved a steep Z shaped driveway up a mountain. Ridiculous angles. He abandoned the property and later sold it to a nature conservancy. The Z shape is still visible 15 years later.
I cannot believe that road is still open. It doesn't look like a whole lot of structure underneath it besides sand and dirt... and the only thing they did was put up barrels and caution tape. I can see that section dropping off the side of that mountain at any time. I don't know if sand/salt trucks are a thing in TN, but if I were the guy stranded at the Air B&B, I would have tried to find someone to sand/salt the heck out of that drive and send the owner the bill.
That last guy with the pickup stuck up on the driveway should tell the Airbnb owner in Mississippi he's going to sue them for NOT plowing and salting the driveway...or she can refund ALL of his money plus the Uber cost to get to and back from the volleyball tournament! She KNEW there was horrible, cold, snowy weather and she did NOTHING about it for her renters...NOT cool.
the only reason why asphalt is not very strong is because they never have metal rods in then like side walks so the road and freely move and the places that are more inclined to well do this would have a wall to help prevent it but that also causes problems but thats long term 7:57
7:35 - Unfortunate result of man's intrusion into this beautiful countryside. Removing trees and plants on mountainsides compromises the security of the hill & soil, and then rain will just wash it away as we see in this excellent video! Is it necessary to damage these mountains to make another tourist dollar? Gatlinburg is a vivid example of this. I love capitalism, it's the greatest money-making, opportunity-creating market system ever, but a line should be drawn when we are destroying beauty & creating danger. I wish Jeff would have offered to let the guy use his chains to get his truck down or up the hill.
That road is Mother Nature saying “DON’T build here!!!

Jeff, snow, ice and those mountain roads can definitely cause issues, you made a great decision on that last call, they can play volleyball 🏐 another day. Thanks Jeff and Kristen for letting me tag along 👍🏻. From Kentucky 😊.
Fun, fun 😊
So what I'm gathering from your discussion is... Don't visit Gatlinburg in the winter time.
Having said that, I'm reminded of a time 20-ish years ago that I drover the Tail of the Dragon, in the middle of the night, in the middle of winter, with over an inch of snow on the road... in a Miata... With summer tires on it. I'm surprised I made it through at all. Ahh, to be young and dumb again.
Or if you do visit in the winter, 4 wheel or all wheel drive are a must, and that still might not get you out of trouble.
@@scottmichaels12 Oh, I've got 4WD. And I'm no stranger to crazy ice-covered roads. I live in Pittsburgh, PA.
But those vacation rental driveways are on a whole other level.
Hello Jeff & Kristen another great time riding from home with y'all
Those houses look unstable on that hillside
Customer service seems to be fading, thanks for making it your job, to keep customers happy, well usually, the illegal parkers are an impossible group
Beautiful views on these recoveries.
I like random dog appearances!
More awesome views guys. And more snow winch outs. Great job guys, stay safe.
The way those people were driving on the first winch out probably explains how their second car got into the ditch in the first place.
Ask them to send photos of the situation. Then you can possibly know what truck is best to take or if there is no way.
Here in Candler NC .
It used to be small town country with beautiful farmland and now it's all being developed ! 😞 For low income housing and trailer parks
Another Super job, thank you both!
Been waiting all day for a new one! Yayyyy!
Keep up the great work and the views are fantastic!!
I definitely learned my lesson in 2019 going to the mountains in the fall. It had been raining and leaves were slippery. Every time I go up to the mountains in the fall I just bring my leaf blower for this type of crap.
Thanks for the ride along and advice.
I live in Michigan and love those roads down there. Ice+ snow = fun.
I know what you're saying. I live in Nashville TN and if there is a inch they gonna find away to build on it!!!
Great job as usual 👍
The asphalt is not the problem, it is what it is laid on top of. Concrete would do the same thing.
Hello Jeff and Kristen!
Went driving here in Australia to Blue rock Lake yesterday and we will return there soon ti fish for Bass. Love seeing the moutains around Gatlinburg and spending time with you both. ❤️
Those roads are crazy with no guard rails looks like you could go right off the side. And, how two vehicles pass each other is a miracle
7:46 holy crap!
I have to use a walker to walk. I’d hire an attorney. Own all their Gatlinburg properties. Keep driveways clean
Thank You for all you two do ❤
I have something else to say. When my sister got married the reception was at my moms house. It had snowed i had shoveled salted nobody got stuck.
When do you ever sleep❓You two are Amazing❗️
These people living in these mountains must have tremendous insurance bills for fire protection.
How do you get a firetruck up there!
You wouldn't. I live in Australia and I am a volunteer firefighter. The fire-fighters safety comes first. People come first. On a catastrophic day here we advise leave early. There are not enough resources, nor the correct access to fight fires in these regions.

In Maine where I’m from.
@@Torsee it is astonishing
My pet pee is how the driveways are soooooooo steep . Lower the driveway and make another patio, add some stairs something
They build these cabins right on the edge - it’s crazy, but fabulous views.
Great for 3 seasons, winter - not so much.
You couldn’t pay me to drive these roads or live in those hills! Too scary!
