- In this episode I replace the thermostat and coolant to solve the issue of my engine not getting up to operating temperature.
Throughout this series I will carry out a variety of common mechanical repairs on this vehicle before a host of performance upgrades in preparation for some serious boost. As always my series will have no tragic humour, no fancy editing, and no advertising, just a strong focus on DIY work and building things on a strict budget in your own shed.
You made look so easy. It's nice to a good detailed video
Good job changing this out , i need to do this desperately . With winter coming it drops to zero Fahrenheit at times, I’ll bring it to you to repair.😂
Doing this job as we speak your video has helped. Fun pain of a job
Love the video dude I've watched so many few videos people even removed the intake whole manifold witch I thought was way much more work and more for things to brake lol but nice video
Good video just done the job myself all in all not to bad worst bit was getting the alternator out.
Just a warning to anyone else doing this job, when pushing the bushes out of the alternator to make it easier to fit as seen in the video DO NOT push the bushes to far as when you tighten the alternator up the bolt won’t pull it back through and it will snap the bracket off the alternator, Ask me how I know!
Tremendous! Thanks mate
Thanks great video
Thank you…. About to do this on my 07 A3.
why you hating on the tripple square. heaps better than allen keys.
Thank you. It took me about 6 hours, but I guess I am more of a noob.
Hi great video and description. I've got to do this on my 2005 Golf GTI 2.0 200BHP - but I cant find the right part number (It's not VW part No. 06F121132G)? Gates do several, can you by any chance remember the Gates part number you used please ( It's not TH40187G1) ? My Thermostat housing has decade and broken. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
I used Gates TH40187G1. I did one on a friends car and found a cheaper one, made by Mahle which I consider a better brand. Mahle TI 6 87
Im on day 2 of doing this job after replacing it and starting the car and having a leak. Found the o ring for the middle thermostat metal hose sheared in half. Got more o rings and putting it back on, i notice no matter what i do, the o ring will not go into the thermostat comepletely with the hose and slips out the bottom. Did you have any complications with that middle hose?
No I can't say I did, that is certainly an annoying one. How did your repair turn out?
Nice vid . Did u get what brand the factory thermostat was ? Mahle I think they are
Not sure sorry
Did you have any issues with the metal sleeves on the altenator?
Yep, watch until end. Had to depress in a vice to get it back in.
I love when people say retarded, always gives a good laugh 😂
Uma duvida, esse carro nao usa 2 termostatos??
Translate please
What's the opening temperature for that thermostat you installed?
Same as standard, these engines should always sit on 90 deg.
@@cheapthrillsgarage I have found 2 different ones that work, one open at 80c and other one opens at 87c idk which one is standard
You can actually do this without taking the rad pipe off which saves time
I'd like to see how!
@@cheapthrillsgarage im due to do mine on my ed30 soon so il try get some pics/ videos if youd like.
Ive done it on a standard gti before
better off installing an inline thermostat on the return hose. what a headache! 🧐
interesting idea i had no idea this could be done i’ve been without heat in my mark v gti for 3 years it’s brutal in winters.
P𝐫O𝕞O𝓢m ☹️
What promo ?
Doesn’t have metal turbo pipe like mine
