  • In this episode I replace the thermostat and coolant to solve the issue of my engine not getting up to operating temperature.
    Throughout this series I will carry out a variety of common mechanical repairs on this vehicle before a host of performance upgrades in preparation for some serious boost. As always my series will have no tragic humour, no fancy editing, and no advertising, just a strong focus on DIY work and building things on a strict budget in your own shed.

    Good video just done the job myself all in all not to bad worst bit was getting the alternator out.
    Just a warning to anyone else doing this job, when pushing the bushes out of the alternator to make it easier to fit as seen in the video DO NOT push the bushes to far as when you tighten the alternator up the bolt won’t pull it back through and it will snap the bracket off the alternator, Ask me how I know!

    Hi great video and description. I've got to do this on my 2005 Golf GTI 2.0 200BHP - but I cant find the right part number (It's not VW part No. 06F121132G)? Gates do several, can you by any chance remember the Gates part number you used please ( It's not TH40187G1) ? My Thermostat housing has decade and broken. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

      I used Gates TH40187G1. I did one on a friends car and found a cheaper one, made by Mahle which I consider a better brand. Mahle TI 6 87

    Im on day 2 of doing this job after replacing it and starting the car and having a leak. Found the o ring for the middle thermostat metal hose sheared in half. Got more o rings and putting it back on, i notice no matter what i do, the o ring will not go into the thermostat comepletely with the hose and slips out the bottom. Did you have any complications with that middle hose?

    What's the opening temperature for that thermostat you installed?

    • @cheapthrillsgarage
      @cheapthrillsgarage  Месяц назад

      Same as standard, these engines should always sit on 90 deg.
