Because instrumental music is only popular if it's EDM, especially in America. There are some great jazz,math rock, jamtronica, groups out there but most do not have vocals so people have a tendency to ignore them.

In my opinion, music can exists without singing, but singing without melody coming from a accompanying instrument, I don’t get emotions! There so many artists out there, who just haves a good voice and people call them superstars😅 lol

People wonder how I can listen to Brazilian music from the 60s or French and Italian movie soundtracks from that period and I say it's the things I've mentioned above and I can't speak any of those languages.😂😂😂
I was driving the car yesterday listening to Jazz FM when "open" was played from their latest album .frantically searched for a pen whilst refusing to get out of the car until the track finished .Came home listened to other tracks from the album ,bought two on digital download then bought the album on CD.Best music ive heard for a long time !
By muting the strings of the piano, I think the goal here was to replicate the sonority of the kora, which is a traditional West African string instrument, hence the name of the song ;)

I have been resisting buying a solid setup for playing vinyl in my house as I tend to overdo new hobbies. Thievery Corporation, Charlie Hunter, Lucius and now Go Go Penguin are doing their level best to weaken my resolve. Great stuff.
It's not just the sound of a Kora from muting the piano strings, the composition is immediately identifiable as the notes you would play on a kora, then the intersection of that with the overall GGP approach of composing electronica and playing acoustically. Incredibly well crafted.

From 3:13, you can hear the sound of the piano blend in and even change with, and because all the resonance of all the sounds, wich gives the piano an altered sound, like it's electric and somewhat distorted. Natural. Quite a magical moment in this song.
