What. A. BANGER! This was requested by Luke Sawyer and originally I thought, there's no way I can pull this song off without an 8 string guitar. Then I got curious and saw that Stef only uses 7 of his 8 strings on this song and then my mind wouldn't let me rest until I found a cheap but reasonable 7 string to give this one a go 😁. I found a used Jackson JS32-7QM for a very reasonable price on Ebay and decided to go for it - this way, I can learn more Deftones songs from some of my favourite albums too.
So thanks for the request Luke as this was a hell of a lot of fun to put together and I hope you enjoy watching it too 🤘🏻

That does get tricky as I’d definitely need an 8 string for that song 😅
A Deftones need here! 👋🤓 about Stephen's guitars in studio recordings he use 6 string in Adrenaline, ATF & WP. In 2003 he starts using 7 string and in the beginning of that year he was still using 6 strings for old songs (Check out the concert in BDO in Australia '03) in SNW he was still using 7 string and in future albums he only start using 8 string and in OHMS he uses 9 string in certain songs. And nowadays he uses 7, 8 and 9 (7 for Adrenaline to SNW, 8 for DE to Gore and 9 for couple songs in OHMS) cheers everyone!
Absolutely spot on! Thankfully for Rocket Skates he only really plays the low B so I didn’t need an 8 string like some of the other songs on Diamond Eyes 😁. Thanks for watching!

You can also cover B-Standard Linkin Park songs now - With You and Runaway! :) And I believe this Jackson has 26.5 scale, so there is room for tuning down. My 26.5 7-string is tuned to Drop F# using 11-74 strings, and it feels and sounds just fine!

Nice! I currently have it tuned to A standard - may need some heavier bottom strings to go lower as they start to feel too lose below that, but good to know you have the same scale length and can tune that low with it still feeling good 🤘🏻

Well, I thought that if early mass-production 8-string guitars had 26.5 scale, then they probably could handle F# tuning with the right string gauge. I even tried to go to Drop E but it was tough to set the intonation right for the low E string, and it sounded very muddy.

Yeah, at some point it starts to get a little tricky even with the proper string gauge 😅
