Elderly Aussie: Adam - you nailed it. I'm a classically trained singer but your Barnesy version is what any Aussie could sing, whether they can sing in tune or not. Make our Anthem fit for purpose.👍👍👍💖
Adam Hills hosted a quiz night at my local pub a few years ago. Met him during one of the breaks and he was the nicest guy. No ego. Just a down to earth great bloke.
This popped up in my browser, and I am sooooo pleased I viewed it. It was absolutely fantastic. I don't think I know how many times I have sung the Anthem with my various classes throughout my teaching career. It never ever sounded as good as Adam's rendition. Jimmy Barnes is from Scotland, as I am. ❤ Many, many thanks, 🎉 🇦🇺
I was looking for this comment....for as long as Neal has been doing Aussie vids...he's never done a Barnesy song?????????😮😮😮 We have to remedy this!!! @dreamteamneal you gotta watch Jimmy sing "Working class man", find a live version from back in.the 80s.....PLEASE!!!!!!
🌏My own dad always used to scream, cover his ears & howl: Advance Australia Fair?!? It's a FUNERAL DIRGE !!! From Funeral Misery to Rockin' Out with Hillsie & Barnsie! Yes, Please, Mr. The Last Leg & Mr. Working Class Man 😘🎶📣
Jimmy Barnes is my favourite artist, with more than 50 years of hits Down Under with his band Cold Chisel and his solo career from 1984. This is one of his signature solo songs, Working Class Man. He has 4 autobiographies, called Working Class Boy, Working Class Man, Killing Time and his new one Highways and Byways. Cold chisel broke up in 1983, and have reformed many times since, released more music and toured. I just saw them in October 2024 and they were brilliant. Jimmy is 68 now, Ian Moss (who sings and plays guitar so well) is 69, Phil Small (on bass) is 70 and Don Walker (on keys and who wrote the majority, but not all of the songs) is going to be 73 on 29th November. Sadly they lost their drummer to brain cancer in 2011, RIP Steve Prestwich 🕊. Charlie Drayton (an American) is playing for them. If you were going to delve into this music, start with Bow River, 2003 Ringside concert, and the When the war is over from the same concert. One of the best live performing bands you’ll ever see.
The day I heard this version, many years ago, it became my unofficial anthem haha. It is awesome and I would pay a stupid amount of money to hear Barnsey sing it one day like this.
You don’t know who Jimmy Barnes is? With all the Aussie content you’ve watched, that is unbelievable. This is Jimmy and this is the song. ruclips.net/video/t3TPmPOrDEk/видео.htmlsi=eIp3TkFDnGFzx6MO
Jimmy Barnes in my opinion is the best singer from Australia tied with John Farnham Jimmy is a solo artist but is also from the band cold chisel who are the best band from Australia in my opinion even ahead of AC/DC and INXS. Cold chisel are currently touring Australia and NZ for their 50th anniversary!!! All of Jimmy’s family can sing or play instruments etc Jimmy’s daughter is currently starring in a musical in Australia and his oldest child David is also a slinger but also is a TV host on morning TV Jimmy singing “a change is gonna come” as a solo artist is epic and so is him and his band cold chisel singing a cover of “wild thing”
As an old Aussie who grew up with God Save the Queen as the national anthem of Australia, and never having liked the tune of Advance Australia Fair .....give me the Barnsey version every time. Even I'd get out of my wheelchair and stand for that. It's terrific, inspiring, and contemporary. As for the 'girt' thing. Back in the day when everyone had a much better grasp of words and the english language in general, yes, Girt was a relatively normal word. Nowadays no one seems to give a sh1t about grammar or enunciation or increasing their word power. When I was a kid I had to put in half an hour a day just reading the dictionary and got to choose the word of the day for the next day at dinner each night. Hence I have an extensive vocabulary. I did the same with my kids, and to this day I am still known to pick up the dictionary and have a. peruse for a word I didn't know before.
I thought God Save The Queen was pretty ordinary, and think the current one is no better. I still remove my hat if I'm wearing one, willingly rendering unto Caesar the traditional sign of respect. I know English spelling, pronunciation and usage change relentlessly and capriciously, but I have a hypothesis that more is at work today. In Orwell's "Newspeak" the intent was to eliminate complex thinking among the Proles by purging the language of the words needed to do so. My suspicion is that the same result is being intentionally achieved by purging distinctions of meaning, without bothering to remove any actual words (except perhaps in China). One example: the distinction between the verbs refute and dispute. If disproving a statement and merely denying it become interchangeable, it's no wonder so many people believe that to deny is to disprove. We're all witnessing where that can lead. I'm 64. My grade three teacher was born before the First World War and my great aunts could wield distinctions of meaning as rapier wit or as a cut-throat wound. To abuse a famous quote, unwelcome changes in English are something up with which we have always had to put. Our only defence against this tide of change is to bunker down the hatches (with apologies to Sheridan).
Our national anthem used to be G-d Save The Queen… then someone decided to get all flowery and ancient rather than using the old Aussie song (also a poem) of “Waltzing Matilda”. If you haven’t heard Waltzing Matilda, go listen to it and see if it would have been a more suitable and rousing choice of national anthem 😉
Not sure how you can find this funny if you don’t know Jimmy Barnes or the song Working Class Man! If you don’t know Jimmy Barnes or his band Cold Chisel, you could well be denied entry into the country ! 😂
I would go for :Land Down Under, but with no words. Adam Hills and Ali McGregor did a 5 min version of Clancy of the Overflow blended with music and chorus of Under the Milky Way that always brings a tear to my eye. ruclips.net/video/LdfGUM0BTLc/видео.html
I don't want to be a stick in the mud, but now it's 'one and free', political correctness. This guy is brilliant. One of many Australian talents. Sadly I'm not not one of them.
Sir you talk to much. You don't need to restate what we just heard. It is not enjoyable and a bit patronising. I have noticed it is very prevalent in a lot of US ytubers. React with your thoughts that is what we like to hear.
Yes I agree... we need to change our national anthem immediately. Adam Hills nailed it with his Jimmy Barns version. Love love LOVE it!!!!!!!!
Elderly Aussie: Adam - you nailed it. I'm a classically trained singer but your Barnesy version is what any Aussie could sing, whether they can sing in tune or not. Make our Anthem fit for purpose.👍👍👍💖
I'm Australian, and I got goosebumps hearing this!
Imagine if that was played at the Olympics for Australia, the whole place would rock. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Jimmy has to do this at least once at some official Aussie celebration 😂🎉😂🎉
I swear I remember him doing it.. in his hey day.. but I swear I remember it
This Aussie wants this as our anthem.
Adam Hills hosted a quiz night at my local pub a few years ago. Met him during one of the breaks and he was the nicest guy. No ego. Just a down to earth great bloke.
You gotta look up Jimmy Barnes ! That anthem sung to "working class man" by Jimmy Barnes Adams version of our anthem should be played more often
I concur! Jimmy Barnes is Australia’s equivalent to Bruce Springsteen. I feel like ‘Working class man’ is our ‘Born in the USA’
💙Both Are Legends ♥️
I did not know Adam could sing like that - loved it !.
Either did I, he's great. I just knew him for his comedy.
As soon as he mentioned Barnesy, we all knew which song it was gonna be!
Imagine this in parliament... headbanging their way in and taking their seats....yeah!
More Adam Hills, one of Australia's most successful comedians
I agree this is much better for us Aussie
Adam Hills met his wife on his triva rock show and married in 2009 , She's an opera singer.
My late mother used to call it a funeral durge. So true

I remember when he first did this, truly Adam Hills' finest moment.
Never seen or heard this b4. Immediate change required we need a boost right now and this would do it for sure.😂
Love love it. Let’s get it done. 👍👍👍🇦🇺
What no Jimmy Barnes Neal, where have you been? ☹️ I love this video, brilliant! 💓👍

Absolutely! I totally agree!! Never heard this before ... it's perfect!
That was awesome! I’m an Aussie and never seen that before!!❤❤❤
Brilliant. Cheers from Sydney, AU.
This is bloody brilliant. You should react to some of our music legends. Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham for a start
Personally I've always said "We are Australian" by The Seekers should be our anthem, but this would be awesome too!
I like "I Still Call Australia Home" too.
That’s why kha shan is considered Australia’s national anthem.
🌏My own dad always used to scream, cover his ears & howl:
Advance Australia Fair?!? It's a FUNERAL DIRGE !!!
From Funeral Misery to Rockin' Out with Hillsie & Barnsie!

adam hills a very talented comedian and he can sing you need to look up both jimmy barnes and john farnham if you want to hear aussie music
Oh mate he did this years ago , brilliant I wish they would replace our boring ole anthem with this. Rock on.
Make it happen
Can u imagine it at the olympics everyone would be singing along xx

Fantastic rendition
Personally think it's a beautiful song really, a good choice for an anthem.
You probably have to do Barnsey and Working class man now!
Now I have to go on a Jimmy binge. LOL
You won’t be disappointed. Start with him as lead singer of Cold Chisel.

So fucking happy to see a yank covering this song! Adam Hills was great with this!
Saw him perform this at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. I would be all for changing the music to this. Aussies need a rock national anthem.
I got goosebumps!!!! Let's do it!! Time for a change lol
Adam can most def can rock this one out
Let’s do it. We’d never forget the words if we rocked it to Jimmy.😂❤
Geez! First time I've actually enjoyed listening to that 'dirge' call the National Anthem. So well done.😛
This is an amazing version.
I love it.
It would be great to hear ADAM HILLS version of the anthem at a major sporting event like the AFL or the NRL GRAND FINAL
FYI the poem, Tyger Tyger by William Blake, can be sung to Twinkle Twinkle. So can lots of Hillaire Belloc poetry such Matilda …
Australian here, im into it.
I like it!
My grandkids’ school sings for we are one and free
Where is the petition? This works!
I thought what a great anthem this would be, the first time I saw this clip. It would make one of the best national anthems in the world !! 💚💛
You definitely need to check out more of Jimmy Barnes and the band he was in called Cold Chisel
Working class man.. have a listen Jimmy Barnes
Love it, love Adam Hills. As sn amputee love that Adams prostetic leg dosnt hold him back one little bit
Yes most people don't beven know !!!!😊

the song was written in 1878, the language was different then (plus, it's a song, not everyday speech)
Hey Dude, you gotta see the original, Jimmy Barnes " Working class man ", to see how awesome Adam Hills really is
Not sure how you can find this funny if you don’t know Jimmy Barnes or the song Working Class Man! If you don’t know Jimmy Barnes or his band Cold Chisel, you could well be denied entry into the country ! 😂
This Aussie loves it, but the best anthems are the USA and France. They even get to me.
The Russian and Mexican anthems are good as well...
'who uses 'girt'
yes it was used back then
OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM SHOULD BE 'WALTZING MATILDA'
signed Australia
I think I used "girt" once. I was really drunk and trying to say "beer".
I made that up. Probably.
Waltzing Matilda is about a thief who killed himself......

this is the only way i sing it now
a vast improvement - DO IT!
Glad it only took you 15 years to find it!😂

@oakfat5178 acknowledged I didn't think of that, but those who don't know should know. ✔️✔️
@@garywatson5617 True. Many would have been born after that, or live elsewhere in the world.
How 👍🏻
A pity these modern singers always make this song as a dirge. It is a song of hope and appreciation!
Working class man Jimmy barns
Bro, you need to go and react to the original song. Jimmy Barnes, working class man. Prepare your mind to be blown
Time you did Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham reaction videos
Advance Australia Fair is a dismal dirge.
I'd support a Eurovision type contest to select the national anthem for the following year.
@ I would support it but at the same time I’d be very afraid of the anthem we’d end up with.
@@DiannM1917 You'd only have to put up with a bad one for a year.
@@oakfat5178 How so
@@DiannM1917 Every year, there'd be a contest to select a new national anthem.
I'd certainly vote for this version, and I don't even like Jimmy Barnes' songs.
No to jimmy barnes 😆 that’s only for those who like old style Aussie rock 😬 Jimmy could sing when he was young, but now he just screeches.
I wanna change it to this tune.

hey neal you talk so, much yet you say nothing ???
Stop bloody interrupting the video so annoying
Jimmy Barnes is not a singer, he is just a screamer so please do not rate him amongst those the do actually have talent
Love it!
