@@geofftottenperthcoys9944 GSL misses the criteria for a national anthem on three levels. *For informal occasions like the Olympics and before sporting events, an anthem needs one-two verses, that are entire of themselves, with a chorus. For more formal events, two-three contained verses and a chorus. GSL, as is, is way too long for that. *The words need to reflect the spirit of Australia, need to be understood and relatable - the verses as written aren't. "Standing at the limit of an endless ocean Stranded like a runaway, lost at sea City on a rainy day down in the harbor Watching as the grey clouds shadow the bay Looking everywhere 'cause I had to find you This is not the way that I remember it here" and "They're gonna betray you, they're gonna forget you Are you gonna let them take you over that way" and "hear the sound of the stranger's voices I see their hungry eyes, their hungry eyes Great Southern Land, Great Southern Land They burned you black, black against the ground" *An anthem needs to be very easy to sing, words and music, so that children 5-years plus can sing it. GSL is too difficult, too adult a song for children to sing. It is an amazing song for adults, it would be a great alternative anthem, the way America has America the Beautiful.
@@geofftottenperthcoys9944 There's being different, and there's just not workable. Why not be different and drive on the right side of the road? Think about 'I Am Australian', as a possibility. Many kids already know and can sing the chorus, the verses are achievable vocally and can easily be reworked lyrically. It's very stirring, reflects out history and our sense of nationhood. If you look at reactions to it on YT, you see that many, many people love it and call for it to be the national anthem.
Hearing the US anthem gives me the same reaction as nails down a chalkboard... At least with ours we belt it out in a competition with the rest of the crowd to see who can sing it more badly & bogan, esp the cricketing crowd. If you've heard the way our Aussie cricket team belts it out then ud know the twelve men (& Albo look at him in India, it was his wet dream that turned it a wet reality with his arm around Smudge) are in competition with each other, Davey & Uzzie don't just open the batting together but have a bat off against each other during the anthem,it brings a tear to me eye thinking about it
Hahaha 😂 You know it might not be such a bad thing for the world to adopt a bit of the Aussie 'no worries' attitude 👍 I do wish our anthem had as much heart as yours tho, it's almost as tho we picked ours cos we HAD to & we weren't allowed to use 'Down Under' by Men at Work cos it's a rock song & thus not appropriate for a national anthem 😆
@slingshot_OG1 'I Am Australian' is easily converted to an anthem format and I think it's the one that touches hearts the most. @@Bellas1717 I know, I know haha 😆 I was just using it as an example of a song that's at least Aussie iconic with more heart & soul than the stiff 'pole up the ol' poo chute' style of our current anthem 😯😆 which is actually an inaccurate representation of the typical laid back, fun loving Aussie larikin we all know & love.
