SKoutdoors One last piece of advice. The rotors that come with the UPAir are fine, but I purchased a pair of DJI Phantom 3 rotors which use carbon fiber and are therefore much stiffer. The drone is now more responsive. I would also recommend getting a spare battery. You can find it on amazon for $99
I have one of these and absolutely love it. They apparently aren’t enforcing any kind of height ceiling, as I have taken it past 600 ft. You can use the same replacement rotors as the ones for the DJI Phantom 3. I Highly recommend this drone
Mirage drone Yesterday I took it up to 800 ft. Only issue is the connection occasionally drops off when I try to go higher. Thinking of purchasing a parabolic signal booster. The ones sold for the DJI Phantom fit the UPAir remote
@@bgamb224 Ive taken it 1000 ft up directly over head today and no problems at all. I'm having more FPV distance issues and WiFi disconnection going away from home. It's not where I want it to be and nowhere near the 6500 ft UpAir claims.
You did a very good job explaining everything I'm really interested in getting one but I'm kind of lost here I checked out some videos about the same drone and they had some horrible issues with the colors it gets darker and some weird things happening on the screen whether it's the the camera itself or the vibration or and I also heard that they're very very hard to calibrate and I'm really wondering did they fix all those problems through updates are you still receiving updates are they trying to make it better please help me with your honest answer I really appreciate it thank you
I just received mine yesterday and you solved the how to turn on the remote controller which I was not able to read in the manual. Although you didn't say how to turn on I watched you press the ON/OFF button 3 times to power it up and 3 times for turning it off. Thank You Thank You!!! Next was the Micro SD Card location was not pointed out in the the manual. then of course I did read several several reviews indicate the paper manual was still the Upair 1 Manual! I enjoyed your video! Now its time to fly baby!
I've bought the x8 and the Zino, just picked the Zino up for $230, was also looking at this one but didn't realize how big it was, I have another Phantom knock off, the Potensic and it's much smaller, the lack of reviews and the fact that I thought I already had the product kept me from buying it, definitely on my watch list now. You're right about that, and I'm noticing in all the videos that I watch, everybody is ordering from Banggood. Prices must be legit, but yeah, long wait from overseas right now. I guess it depends on where you're at tho too.
That video does look very nice, and the distance looks pretty good too. I like it, of course in Australia it’ll be a lot more, but it’d still be a great cinematic drone for the price.
Well done Justin: This looks like a pretty decent platform for the price. If Upair play their cards right they can place this as a phantom competitor, filing in the blanks in the meantime, until DJI decides what they want to do with the phantom series. People are hungry for a phantom replacement as shown by the snapping up of P4s whenever they are brought back into production.
Upair is now adding more features to the app and they will continue updating and put a stronger foot in drone world. I have this drone and from day one I like it very much. I also have a Mi Drone 4K, but this one is getting more my favorite by the day.
Awesome. Love that dji has some real competition at least in the budget drone sense. My favorite non dji drones 1) evo 2) fimi x8 se 3) zino Will probably be adding this to my list of best dji alternatives for the price.

Tilting the camera up and down appears quite jerky but the lateral scroll appears quite smooth. Is that an accurate understanding of what we're seeing here? . Has this become more smooth with subsequent firmware updates?
Can you answer a question for me. If I'm using it to film for wakeboarding there for where I take off won't be where I end up. Does it have the capability to return home to where the controller is, especially if I put a landing pad on the boat? Thanks
my upair 2 has a mind of its own, been flying for a quite a few times now. did the 6 position calibration still same, it goes up by its own I assume it losses signal and RTH but it does goes side ways by its own too?
Just got the upair2 4k 3d drone. Which of the apps did you use. I checked out both, and the 2nd one says that it comes from a 3rd party and may wreck my tablet. So that's my question.

Hi!! Great Video!! I have just purchased this drone myself here in the UK. I have looked in so many places to find this out; can you set the altitude for the RTH in the app? I can't seem to find that anywhere. Unless if I have overlooked it somewhere.
I have an UPAir 2 and a Zino (standard version). I would strongly recommend the Zino over the UPAir 2. It's true that the UPAir will handle the wind better but I don't like its fish-eye lens and the FPV on my one is useless (maybe a manufacturing fault). The Zino is highly portable so you can take it anywhere, it's batteries are cheap and readily available and so are spares if you should need them. Hubsan seem to be serious about pushing out upgrades and improvements.
Hi there, Just bought this UPair2 unit. Flew it a few times. Now it cannot accelerate in any direction... crawls virtually. It acsends and descends normal. Any reason why it does this?
I’ve just ordered mine from Banggood. They are reasonably priced at £392 at the moment. I would be glad of some advice on how to connect the drone to a PC. There does not appear to be a USB port on the drone itself but there is a micro USB port on the transmitter. Is this the one to use ? If so I presume you would have to power up the drone and the transmitter and connect them so that the PC and the flight controller can communicant. Is this the case ?
With the 3D photos take in this Drone, wich software I need to buy for topographic maps? I have marks in the terrain with know coordinates. If take several 3D photos with this drone I can use this marks to generate altitude level curves? Thanks for the video!

I can't believe there's not more professional reviewers like you on these upair drones. This drone looks absolutely amazing especially at 500+plus there's a 25 dollar instant Amazon coupon. So 475. Now they have the upair 1 plus 4k model for 300. Personally I'd never use the fpv goggles. However I'm wondering if it's worth it for 175 to go with the upair 2?is the video/picture/gimbal better? Is the range better? I'm just wondering cause there's really no answers out there. Thanks man 👍
It is said to have an open source flight controller, which I suspect is a cloned Pixhawk, and that you can set the flight path with the App. Do you know if this can be done and stored before flight, and if it can be done with Mission Planner on a PC via the USB port, as is the case with the Pixhawk ? This is how we fly our self build drones and I believe it is a tremendously useful feature.
Two questions....is the 23/4 minute flight time flying it down to 25/30% capacity or is that to 0%? Does it record in stereoscopic video or is that just for viewing during a flight? Thanks again for another great review.
Just finish flying it Was having so much fun that I didn’t notice the battery down and when it was one percent it took over by itself and it went up and then I went to the left and there was a tree and I started hitting the tree it will not stop and then it went up like nothing and nothing hurt

Just bought mine from Banggood. It arrived 12 days from ordering, undamaged and with no custom charges, so top marks for BG. After that the news isn’t so good. The main reason I bought this drone was to use it with Mission Planner, but so far I have not found a way to connect it. I don’t understand why GTEN didn’t put a USB port in the drone that connected directly to the flight controller. That would have made it so simple. I’ve tried connecting the micro USB port on the transmitter to my PC (with the drone and transmitter powered and connected) but it’s not recognised. I believe some owners have found a way of connecting to Mission Planner and if any of them are reading this I would be grateful for their advice. This drone seems to have a lot of hidden potential so it’s a pity that you can’t get at it.
I have had some advice from GTEN. There is a micro USB port on the drone but it is hidden under the gimbal. Release the locking screw and slide out the gimbal to reveal it. Then you can connect this port to a PC and connect to Mission Planner. I had hoped this would allow me to change the flight modes, but when you go to the flight modes page the modes cannot be changed. So I’m still not able to use AUTO mode. I’ve asked CTEN if there is a way around this.
If you use QGroundControl (rather than Mission Planner) you can change the flight modes assigned to the 3-position switch. I have changed them to Land, Position Hold and Mission (Auto). Mission shows up as “Function” in the App. You can load a mission from QGroundControl or Mission Planner and once you are flying it will be executed when you move the switch. I was disappointed that I couldn’t load a mission with splined way points. The flight controller will only accept straight lines between way points. It would be nice if the firmware could be upgraded to do this.

Yes, using QGroundControl. It's a tedious process to set up as you have to slide off the gimbal to get at the micro USB port for connecting the drone to your PC. The drone follows the flight plan well. but unfortunately the flight controller will only allow straight lines between way points, not smooth splines like you could get with a Pixhawk controller. Another odd think is that it doesn't change height gradually between way points, but proceeds in steps.
Has any one heard of any software issues of this product i had trouble connecting to app a few times had to take app of iPhone and put back on but biggest issue i had was returning back to me from 300 m out just could not control came down at 45 degrees angle smashed in to ground about 30 metres away from me i have been on to manufacture waiting reply.
great vid Justin I would LOVE this quad, Spent so much time on my original phantoms thats a plus to me the original props!! there are now soo many NICE CHEAP carbon fiber replacements ect no lack of options!!! and NTM all the lil gimmicks we made for our phnatoms that most sold would be great, I would LOVE to take this out over the ocean and try the stereoscopic 3d... im sooo JELLY your the man and im sold!!! If i can just sell a dx8 or something :) all my best brother!!!! ohh and with some drones pointing the gimbal down can help regain signal at least it did with my q 500 that i need fixed soo badly :(
This one was a winner. I’m glad it handled the canyon as well as it did. And beat out the FIMI. Yep you could almost use any old school style props too!
@@dronecamps Such an awesome design... I usually would be kinda against reusing tired old parts frames ect. but looking back< when i finally got a P1, I was in soooo happy! It was the filming rig of my dreams, took amazing vid!! and flew better than most anything out, was rock solid n really embodied the changes in the drone industry, imo. But p 1,2,3 every one just is rock solid from your first flight.. and gives you amazing content and good times.... just flew well really well and so damn really reliable, I Love that feeling in any uav. So am i wrong to think if this as a rather Huge upgrade from those, allowing you to take advantage of every print on thingyverse, everymod..... If u think about the amount of customization options from manufacturers to diy cutoms that made them so dope, as long as those and escs are strong, we can use the v2 high pitch, lowpitch cams, find some like 5050 tribades test vs carbon props just like the old days!!! what im saying is as long as the cams there and it appreas to be, something much more that a toy, And this is more than enough for most arial production, if used correctly, and i want so badly to use my gs10plus to do 3d steroscopic looking for dolphins and sharks does it have head tracking? and whats the catch? to good to be true and im also a HUGE XIAOMI Fan..

My UPAir2 Ultrasonic has always had a serious problem The FPV feed to the phone is unreadable except when the image is completely still. Any movement and the image breaks up into a compete mess. GTEN said that the problem is that my phone is not powerful enough. I can only get the UPAir Android app to run on an old Android 6 phone. When I open the app on my Huawei Android 9 phone I get the introductory screen with “Everything Prepared Ready to Fly”, but the “Enter camera view” button does not appear and the app closes by itself after a few seconds. I've tried other Android 9 and 10 phones with the same result. To complicate the matter GTEN provide another app but when I open this all I get is a pretty picture and then the app closes. Presumably others are running the Android app successfully on modern phones. I would be glad if anyone could give me some advice.
Thank you for the review, however it is not a $500 drone. Currently, I can not find it below a $620 price tag. If you can, please share where ? If the going rate really is $620+, does it pay not to add a bit more and get a DJI ?

PS.: I read the following on the banggood website, under Customer Questions and Answers: Complaint 1: The gimbal and camera fell into the water. Great review Justin! Video looks really sharp and color balance looks natural. First budget quad I’ve seen that the video looks good, very dji-esk! Panning the gimbal up and down looked very jerky though. Wondering if it it can be smoothed out in the app or perhaps it’s something they can work on in an update. Very unique and different camera. Justin, how does this compare to the Xiaomi 4k that you reviewed two years ago. You liked that one at the time, you obviously like this one. What would you say are the advantages of one or the other IF 3D is not an important aspect?
I have owned a Xiaomi 4k for two years and I am very pleased with it. I have owned an UPair 2 Ultrasonic for two weeks and I am rather disappointed with it. The hardware is good but the main thing that lets it down is the Android app. Android devices have to connect to the controller through a USB lead. They won’t connect over WiFi. I have tried several phones running Android 9 and 10, all with USB tethering enabled, but none would connect. Fortunately I had an old phone with Android 6 and this does connect as expected. Otherwise I would not be able to use the drone. This is with the original GTEN app. There is also a “New Release” app which doesn’t work at all. IOS devices connect by WiFi. I have no experience of how effective this is. Aside from that, I think the camera is inferior to the Xiaomi 4k because it has quite a lot more fish eye. I have used the 3D mode with cheap VR goggles. It works, but you can’t see important data like distance, height, battery etc. They get left off the view. The gimbal looses it’s level quite a lot. The firmware needs an upgrade. The Xiaomi also suffers from a bit of tilt when turning fast but it soon recovers. As the flight controller is open source I had hoped to get at some extra features by connecting to Mission Planner or QGroundControl. Helpfully GTEN have concealed the USB port for this under the gimbal so this has to be slid off (don’t pull out the ribbon cable as it’s fiddly to get back in). But you can’t do much anyway as the firmware on the flight controller will not allow it. So my advice from my personal experience is get the Xiaomi and you should be happy with it. If you get the Apair you might be sorry.

A few things. Make sure you don’t cover the gps. Also not near metal. And try to rotate as level as possible

It is said to have an open source flight controller, which I suspect is a cloned Pixhawk, and that you can set the flight path with the App. Do you know if this can be done and stored before flight, and if it can be done with Mission Planner on a PC via the USB port, as is the case with the Pixhawk ? This is how we fly our self build drones and I believe it is a tremendously useful feature.

Just finish flying it Was having so much fun that I didn’t notice the battery down and when it was one percent it took over by itself and it went up and then I went to the left and there was a tree and I started hitting the tree it will not stop and then it went up like nothing and nothing hurt

I tried to apply your code of TOYHO for the Upair 2 Ultrasonic 4K + 3D Camera Drone, but it keeps saying that code is invalid. Can you please give me a more recent code?
Just bought mine from Banggood. It arrived 12 days from ordering, undamaged and with no custom charges, so top marks for BG. After that the news isn’t so good. The main reason I bought this drone was to use it with Mission Planner, but so far I have not found a way to connect it. I don’t understand why GTEN didn’t put a USB port in the drone that connected directly to the flight controller. That would have made it so simple. I’ve tried connecting the micro USB port on the transmitter to my PC (with the drone and transmitter powered and connected) but it’s not recognised. I believe some owners have found a way of connecting to Mission Planner and if any of them are reading this I would be grateful for their advice. This drone seems to have a lot of hidden potential so it’s a pity that you can’t get at it.
I have had some advice from GTEN. There is a micro USB port on the drone but it is hidden under the gimbal. Release the locking screw and slide out the gimbal to reveal it. Then you can connect this port to a PC and connect to Mission Planner. I had hoped this would allow me to change the flight modes, but when you go to the flight modes page the modes cannot be changed. So I’m still not able to use AUTO mode. I’ve asked CTEN if there is a way around this.
If you use QGroundControl (rather than Mission Planner) you can change the flight modes assigned to the 3-position switch. I have changed them to Land, Position Hold and Mission (Auto). Mission shows up as “Function” in the App. You can load a mission from QGroundControl or Mission Planner and once you are flying it will be executed when you move the switch. I was disappointed that I couldn’t load a mission with splined way points. The flight controller will only accept straight lines between way points. It would be nice if the firmware could be upgraded to do this.

Yes, using QGroundControl. It's a tedious process to set up as you have to slide off the gimbal to get at the micro USB port for connecting the drone to your PC. The drone follows the flight plan well. but unfortunately the flight controller will only allow straight lines between way points, not smooth splines like you could get with a Pixhawk controller. Another odd think is that it doesn't change height gradually between way points, but proceeds in steps.
Has any one heard of any software issues of this product i had trouble connecting to app a few times had to take app of iPhone and put back on but biggest issue i had was returning back to me from 300 m out just could not control came down at 45 degrees angle smashed in to ground about 30 metres away from me i have been on to manufacture waiting reply.
great vid Justin I would LOVE this quad, Spent so much time on my original phantoms thats a plus to me the original props!! there are now soo many NICE CHEAP carbon fiber replacements ect no lack of options!!! and NTM all the lil gimmicks we made for our phnatoms that most sold would be great, I would LOVE to take this out over the ocean and try the stereoscopic 3d... im sooo JELLY your the man and im sold!!! If i can just sell a dx8 or something :) all my best brother!!!! ohh and with some drones pointing the gimbal down can help regain signal at least it did with my q 500 that i need fixed soo badly :(
This one was a winner. I’m glad it handled the canyon as well as it did. And beat out the FIMI. Yep you could almost use any old school style props too!
@@dronecamps Such an awesome design... I usually would be kinda against reusing tired old parts frames ect. but looking back< when i finally got a P1, I was in soooo happy! It was the filming rig of my dreams, took amazing vid!! and flew better than most anything out, was rock solid n really embodied the changes in the drone industry, imo. But p 1,2,3 every one just is rock solid from your first flight.. and gives you amazing content and good times....
just flew well really well and so damn really reliable, I Love that feeling in any uav. So am i wrong to think if this as a rather Huge upgrade from those, allowing you to take advantage of every print on thingyverse, everymod.....
If u think about the amount of customization options from manufacturers to diy cutoms that made them so dope, as long as those and escs are strong, we can use the v2 high pitch, lowpitch cams, find some like 5050 tribades test vs carbon props just like the old days!!!
what im saying is as long as the cams there and it appreas to be, something much more that a toy, And this is more than enough for most arial production, if used correctly, and i want so badly to use my gs10plus to do 3d steroscopic looking for dolphins and sharks does it have head tracking? and whats the catch? to good to be true and im also a HUGE XIAOMI Fan..

My UPAir2 Ultrasonic has always had a serious problem The FPV feed to the phone is unreadable except when the image is completely still. Any movement and the image breaks up into a compete mess.
GTEN said that the problem is that my phone is not powerful enough. I can only get the UPAir Android app to run on an old Android 6 phone. When I open the app on my Huawei Android 9 phone I get the introductory screen with “Everything Prepared Ready to Fly”, but the “Enter camera view” button does not appear and the app closes by itself after a few seconds. I've tried other Android 9 and 10 phones with the same result. To complicate the matter GTEN provide another app but when I open this all I get is a pretty picture and then the app closes.
Presumably others are running the Android app successfully on modern phones. I would be glad if anyone could give me some advice.

Thank you for the review, however it is not a $500 drone. Currently, I can not find it below a $620 price tag. If you can, please share where ? If the going rate really is $620+, does it pay not to add a bit more and get a DJI ?

Complaint 1: The gimbal and camera fell into the water.
Complaint 2: My drone stopped responding to controls within 15 feet of me. It fell from the sky and Banggoods refuses to replace it.

Great review Justin! Video looks really sharp and color balance looks natural. First budget quad I’ve seen that the video looks good, very dji-esk! Panning the gimbal up and down looked very jerky though. Wondering if it it can be smoothed out in the app or perhaps it’s something they can work on in an update. Very unique and different camera. Interesting! ✌️

Justin, how does this compare to the Xiaomi 4k that you reviewed two years ago. You liked that one at the time, you obviously like this one. What would you say are the advantages of one or the other IF 3D is not an important aspect?

I have owned a Xiaomi 4k for two years and I am very pleased with it. I have owned an UPair 2 Ultrasonic for two weeks and I am rather disappointed with it.
The hardware is good but the main thing that lets it down is the Android app. Android devices have to connect to the controller through a USB lead. They won’t connect over WiFi. I have tried several phones running Android 9 and 10, all with USB tethering enabled, but none would connect. Fortunately I had an old phone with Android 6 and this does connect as expected. Otherwise I would not be able to use the drone. This is with the original GTEN app. There is also a “New Release” app which doesn’t work at all.
IOS devices connect by WiFi. I have no experience of how effective this is.
Aside from that, I think the camera is inferior to the Xiaomi 4k because it has quite a lot more fish eye. I have used the 3D mode with cheap VR goggles. It works, but you can’t see important data like distance, height, battery etc. They get left off the view.
The gimbal looses it’s level quite a lot. The firmware needs an upgrade. The Xiaomi also suffers from a bit of tilt when turning fast but it soon recovers.
As the flight controller is open source I had hoped to get at some extra features by connecting to Mission Planner or QGroundControl. Helpfully GTEN have concealed the USB port for this under the gimbal so this has to be slid off (don’t pull out the ribbon cable as it’s fiddly to get back in). But you can’t do much anyway as the firmware on the flight controller will not allow it.
So my advice from my personal experience is get the Xiaomi and you should be happy with it. If you get the Apair you might be sorry.
