The car accident is actually a re-creation of an actual car accident Yoongi was in. He's spoken of it before. Back before BTS debuted, he was working a part-time job as a motorcycle delivery person and was hit by a car and woke up with the tire right next to his face. It messed up his shoulder, but he never told anyone about it out of fear that he would be cut from the team. He debuted and continued performing intensely for 8 years with a shoulder that constantly put him in pain. He had to get many shots for the pain over the years. He finally got surgery to fix it in 2020, so it's better now. But that was an actual event in his life that they re-created visually for this MV. I'm proud that he has finally moved past this pain. It's a beautiful thing.
For me I used to see tons of comments how BTS does not use autotune. I think it would have been better said BTS does not use autotune to obscure vocal weaknesses. What they do, and Suga in particular has done over the past few years, is use autotune as an artistic tool. I get the angst many have about autotune but in my opinion the fact that weak singers use it as a support system should not stain those artists who are engage it for experimental forms of expression. Distortions of various sorts certainly have colored contemporary music for decades. Suga who doubles as a producer is simply trying to use different sounds to be an artist.
@S Y So obvious that much like the no green screen comments people who used to make them largely have gone silent. Sharing love for BTS need not involve sharing hyperbole. Guess when reality slaps one in the face some people start saying what I meant was obvious as opposed to acknowledging the narrative has moved on.
@@ericweinman9447 acknowledging 'the narrative' not sure what you're referring to. I just referred to the type of conversations I have read where vocals are discussed and people refute. Is this what you mean by narrative
As someone who’s had my own personal experience with anxiety and depression, I interpreted the use of auto tune here as an expression of the noise and anxious thoughts going on. Even the distortion of the harmonies resonates as a never quiet mind.
The “room” is actually a visual representation of his mind, specifically his amygdala. The amygdala is an almond shaped part of our brain that processes trauma and uses those traumatic memories to trigger our “fight or flight” responses to similar events. If you’ll notice, he’s eating almonds throughout the video as Min Youngi (in my opinion). As has already been stated, the events are all true. I’m not sure if you caught the scar that’s the same as in Daechwita and Haegeum. This is Agust D’s origin story. He said that we all give ourselves scars, whether they are visible or not. He’s stated that this will likely be his last appearance as Agust D because it’s a persona he created to vent his anger and frustration. He is now happy and has overcome the issues that were born of that emotional and physical pain/trauma. He said that he can now say everything else as Suga. It’s beautiful that he decided to be so open and vulnerable with us all. Btw, he’s the only one credited on this song. He composed it, produced it and then even did the storyboard for the video.

That was a tough watch, especially being cognizant of the fact that this is all his life story and the painful process of healing from his past traumas but so thankful he opened up on topics we already knew of even more! I'd recommend from the same album his song Snooze (the live clip especially)
one thing suga always says he never regrets any music he puts out nor would he change it. everything is a learning experience. and many of his songs touch people who may be suffering similar situations. will everyone like every song he does no ( although those people have a problem, lol just my interpretation) but the ones that are touched by Sugar music know why he makes the voices he does in his music.
The live version of this song is incredible. There's a live clip and then there are of course clips from his recent concerts, amazing performance. You can feel the raw emotions. I agree that Suga is a very good actor. He actually received a script after "Daechwita" came out but he declined because he wasn't interested in acting. He said he wasn't good-looking enough, if you can believe it. Jin majored in acting in college, but he's not interested in it at the moment. He says he wanted to be an actor so he could experience a rich life through his roles, but being in BTS has given him more life experience that he had ever imagined, so the need is gone. V is instead the one who has acting experience. He starred in the K-drama "Hwarang" and even won Best Idol Actor for his performance.
Loved your breakdown Sean! I'm not an auto tune fan either, but I really think it helped to emphasize the mania of his emotional condition. Thanks so much for your reactions! 💜
So Yoongi was a food delivery guy for a bit and he did actually have an accident which majorly effected his shoulder and he had to have surgery for it while in BTS. He still deals with pain now and then from what I understand. Did you notice that the cut matches the cut from the "character" in Haegeum?
Thank you for your reaction! Min Yoongi is better and happier now.... 😊 If you loved this one wait until Snooze with Sakamoto's music and Woosung's insane voice 😊😊😊💜
Amygdala is such a beautiful song. Probably my top favorite from the new album. So can we expect you to react to Haegeum too? Maybe Jimin’s solo songs too?
Thank you for a great reaction! Can't wait for you to hear more of his music. Can't wait for you to see Daewchita and Agust D (they have mvs), but I'm especially excited for First Love and The Last (lyrics videos). In my experience he often uses autotune when he raps/sings about some torn/conflicting. As if the unease by the cranked autotune helps create this feeling about something being not quite right - thereby the song's lyrics are reflected in the sound of the song. Just like he did in "Outro: Tear".
The auto tune doesn’t bother me here because he is having two conversations with himself. Agust D is trying to rescue the part of himself that was pushed down and hidden by the fear that the amygdala creates and stores. Fear and trauma live there. Inner Agust D was speaking with the auto tune to separate the voice of from the outer Agust D. This feels so personal to me because I feel like we lock up the parts of us that carry the scars. Did you notice that it showed him make the cut on his eye. It’s the same one that he has in Daechwita and Haegum. Ty!
This all actually happened in his life from his accident to his mom's heart surgery and his dad's liver cancer as well he went through so much. Amygdala is the part of the brain that holds all the trauma.
Sugas album D-Day hit 1 million in sales in the same day it was released he's the first rapper in HISTORY to do that. So autotune or not everyone loved it and continues to love it. This is my favorite song tho and haegeum is my favorite as well his whole album is just a masterpiece.
Both Stay Alive & suprisingly, his Samsung song "Over the Horizon" (3 minutes on YT, worth the time!), have that amazing production & feeling like you're on a whole journey. Stay Alive (JK vocals) gives you chills, & it's a webtoon OST! (Chako)
this song is so personal and meaningful for him but for us too. he said it was so hard to write down all of his trauma and thoughts because he really is a private person and went trough a lot in his life (as you can understand from the lyrics) but ended up being one of the strongest people i know and the fact that he really trusted us so much that he shared all of this with us is so important for me. forever grateful to have yoongi (and bts) in my life. ps. so excited for the haegeum reaction hehe
Good point about the auto tune. Seeing their behind the scenes and how they produce their music, I wouldn't be surprised if Yoongi experimented with different levels of auto tune.
You're right, all of BTS members can act, but i personally think Suga, V & Jin are the best actors of the group. Hope you'll listen to Agust D's Snooze! Suga managed to work with the late Ryuichi Sakamoto who recently passed away last March 😢 It's an amazing song
Autotune and vocal distortion can definitely be overdone and a crutch for somebut having heard it here I can’t imagine the song without it. It’s got an trippy, otherworldly feel, just what I would expect for a journey through your mind and memories, especially unpleasant ones. It also lends a sense of detachment to the song, which fits with the images of Yoongi observing himself out of body. Everything about Amygdala-the song itself, the MV, the sets, the styling, the vocal effects, the acting-it’s all masterful and deliberate.
when BTS use auto tune its stylistic choice. has nothing to do with vocal ability. he uses it here to show chaos and emotion. I think it fit this song specifically

Usually in those conversations the context of saying no use of autotune is usually obvious

The amygdala is part of the brain and not a Korean word fyi. One of its purposes is to process conditioned fear.

Why is everyone having trouble pronouncing amygdala, it’s an English word 🥲
Idk English is hard 😩
It's a Latin word that came from ancient Greek. You rarely hear anyone say it out loud unless you're involved in neuroscience or psychology.
You've missed alot from Agust D and others as well lol.
