Due to unforeseen circumstances, I couldn't get the video uploaded on the 18th (18-3-2024). The challenge this time was to make a substantial animation in 10 days - and if not for the delay, 10 days was just about feasible!
It reminds me of the trench engines, Americanized panniers built during the First World War. A couple ended up on industrial railroads on both sides of the pond afterwards.
Panniers with lights and bells are something I never knew I wanted, but now I do. If any one UK-built locomotive from that era ended up being exported to the US, it'd probably be one of them, as a private-use switcher for an industry not quite big enough to need a Baldwin saddle tank but big enough to justify a switcher of some sort. Unfortunately it never actually happened, but there were so many panniers built that the odds were in their favor.
Interestingly enough the Pannier design did end up crossing the pond during World War 1, Baldwin, Alco, and Davenport made Americanized narrow gauge panniers originally for military use that were later converted to industrial applications. It's a funky looking hybrid engine, a pannier tank with pony trucks, outside cylinders, sometimes bells, and top mounted lights.
@@tophatgaming1873 Yup, his origin was historically accurate too. After the war many of the trench engines in Britain ended up working narrow gauge slate mine railways, the ones in France continued their military service through World War 2, and a handful that stayed in the US were used in farms and road construction.
Great animation! With these Pannier tanks in this story setting is realistic, as these were sold off for further use in other industries and companies after their service life in BR.
There was a tourist railroad in Oklahoma I think, and they had a 0-6-0 tank engine from a steel works from Britain and 3 BR coaches. They had it modified to meet USA railroad standards
That was a great video! I'm quite impressed with how you got the panniers to have knuckle couplings, & I saw some rolling stock that haven't been seen on SFM before: mainly the gondola wagons and the hopper wagons. How you imported them, I'll never know. But I applaud you once again sir!
The Gondola and covered hopper are assets from TF2Maps. Much like with your own made assets, they are compatible with SFM's \models and \materials maps: tf2maps.net/downloads/gondola-prop.14046/ tf2maps.net/downloads/covered-hopper-car.7134/
Panniers look pretty good in red. It's interesting how TF2's artstyle helps make the different eras and nations of rolling stock work together without looking out of place.
Easiest answer: Zephirith Mann brought them over to the US, and kept a fleet of them that his Twin sons inherited. Remember, his sons were rich enough to waste money to move an Alamo to the top of a desert mesa just to have a private talk... And Zephirith was WAY Richer than his sons were, both in fortune, and in wits. Not too far fetched to believe Zephirith brought over some British Locomotives because he liked having them.
This has got to be my favourite SFM Trains episode, I just love videos like this where it seems all hope is lost but in a last minute situation and idea that no one thinks will work, work! 11/10
Not really though because most of them had less tractive effort compared to diesel locos with the same size. Also maintenance would be kind of a problem too. But i get your point. They're beautiful and pretty satisfying to watch them chug along the tracks
This is why we keep steam engines on Daisy's lunches aren't physically able to run cuz it's too hot and the engine can't even start boom steam engines there's a solution they could start up but they take 2 hours to steam up if they're like tank engines but at least they can move under their own power unlike the Diesels
Hope to see a K2 express engine they get no love the only time I heard of K2 was from unlucky tug and learned how Edward’s bases was ment to be a K2 class

As a lifelong Thomas and Friends fan, I couldn’t help but notice the T&F vibes from all the locomotives and rolling stock. Those Class 37 and Class 08 diesel-electric trains bring back memories when I watched the 1980s era T&F episodes. As a full grown adult with some technical knowledge, however, I’m a little surprised those diesel engines couldn’t start in the heat - diesel engines usually function better in warmer temperatures. Diesel fuel has a higher flash point than petrol; the cold makes it difficult for diesel to ignite. Nonetheless, this goes to show the simplicity and robustness steam locomotives, especially the ability to operate in any weather, even though they are much higher maintenance and more dangerous - it requires skill to maintain a balance between water and heat to create the perfect amount of steam safely and consistently.
Simply, for story adaptation look at “long live the iron horse” by master of the lemons trust me I just watched it and it’s gotta be one of the greatest pieces of Thomas media out there
So these guys use american coaches, British steam locomotives, an American Santa Fe, A Class 37 using BR.2 coaches... how...? oh and a Class 08 Shunter that aparently can't cold start. And then now I see a fucking A1 Peppercorn...? Also steam locomotives wouldn't pull a consist in reverse during standard operations due to the lack of proper viewing ports in the cab, only doing so when things are dire and with a break van/control wagon at the back for controlling the locomotive from there. as well as the fact that if Red Baron is a dedicated push-pull locomotive, it is missing the rear lamp needed to say "hey, this is the back of the consist"
You seem to have misidentified the Santa Fe type (which is a 2-10-2 type, not the 4-8-0 as seen in the video) and the Peppercorn A1 (the one in the video is a Gresley A3). Furthermore I must admit I don't know where you got the idea from that steam locos don't haul trains backwards. Here is just a few images where both big and small steam locos are doing just that: www.flickr.com/photos/david_christie/9310357069 www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/lnwrchg2807.htm www.ltmuseum.co.uk/collections/collections-online/photographs/item/1998-43564 photos.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/LNER-and-BRE-and-BRNE/LNER-post-grouping-locomotives/LNER-tank-locomotives/i-Vthcb7Q/1/hQM7Z8dHL5k2rkhb6n99ggmrM9skDtQbNFx9Dq6k/M/E_BR_68912-M.jpg
