@@fezthedracky8468 I graduated highschool in 2019 and in my country computer science wasn't even available for the 12th grade so if you chose computer science in the 11th grade you're going to have to replace it with subject in 12th grade which wouldn't have been much of a problem if a lot if the optional subjects didn't require you to take them in 11th grade if you wanted them in 12th grade.

As a cybersecurity student, this is very interesting to me, and also proves that no amount of cybersecurity will ever matter because security is only as strong as it’s weakest links, and humans are always weak links. Social engineering is THE method to get anything.
And all that effort for Minecraft accounts.
Are humans necessary or can AI replace them? Or do those humans need to be more strict?
@@herobrine8763og Unlikely. AI is a software, and all software is prone to bugs, glitches, and being hacked. Ideally you don't want to be relying on something for security that could potentially be hijacked and used against you.
The goal is to make things harder to break in to, not introduce more potential break-in points.

To think that for once this wasn't even done by phishing the original owners but a third party (Paypal support) is even more fascinating. It's a weak spot few games have. Maybe allowing resetting an account by knowing the transaction ID is not such a good design, but then again, I can see how Mojang probably didn't think many people would go as far as exploiting Paypal just to hack a Minecraft account, so the system probably did more good than harm by giving people access to their accounts when they genuinely forgot their passwords.
Anyway, really interesting case.

I'd be pissed if I had my account stolen and the company's response was to lock it completely. I mean I get why they do it, but it would still suck, especially if it was a special one like the 1 million cape.

Believe it or not, but the account Solid was an account I bought back in 2017 and had it for around a year before it got hacked. I had attended Minecon 2016 and put my Minecon cape on the account. Still feels bad, but glad to hear it was given back to the original owner.

Personally, I think the people willing to commit serious identity fraud and cybercrime to steam minecraft accounts are sad and demented, and I seriously hope you can socially engineer enough info out of them to get them convicted.

The issue is the crime is rarely pursued and even more rarely does it actually result in serious criminal sanctions. Harsher criminal penalties and less apathetic law enforcement when it comes to cyber crime would help.
Surely though if the original owner provided there license, birth certificate ect it would be undeniable proof that they are the original owner and should rightfully gain access to the account again. Surprised no one has sued the thieves for stealing so many accounts.
They could but their official policy seems to be not to get involved and simply ban said accounts. Even MumboJumbo wasn't able to persuade Mojang Support that he does own his account and he lost it during migration.

These people are crazy, doing ilegal stuff and hacking private information only to get access to a minecraft account of an innocent person. The craziest thing is the fact that people give so much value to such superficial things to the point of creating a black market of minecraft accounts. I feel like this video portrays these account stealers in not nearly negative enough of a light, talking about the OG "community".
It's not just the rare names that are valuable. Every one of the 100,000+ accounts on that list is a legit (non-cracked) copy of the game, which otherwise would cost someone $29

2 most likely already own the game (or even multiple stolen accounts)
Really all those accounts are worth over 5M which is uhh.. surprising
I was apart of the legacy accounts, I made mine in 2010, got a cape after almost 10 years for migrating
I remember some of my Xbox friends stealing halo accounts using social manipulation like this back in 2008-2011. It was insane how good some of them got. A quick call into xbl support and "cry" about your account and the person often just gave out the relevant info.

I saw that god account on Mineplex twice-once in either 2016 or 17 playing Sheep Quest, and again a year or later in an unknown game. Who would've had it then?

To be fair most of these rare accounts would never have been active again if they weren’t hacked. The original owners likely moved on from Minecraft years before they were hacked. I don’t think it’s good that they were hacked but if they weren’t most of these rare accounts wouldn’t be seen at all.

So this is the root issue: customer support. In this case it should be automated. Make it so a person simply can't get that PayPal email without knowing ALL of their card digits, maybe the ones on the back too. By removing the human problem, hacking should get a lot harder than "my phone fell into the toilet, please give me all of my personal info now".
If we were to go that path, everyone should be prepared to actually lose their stuff once they lose it. If your phone does fall into the toilette, it's gone. Actually, we do have systems for this already like recovery keys that you're supposed to print physically and hide somewhere, but no one does that, so we're stuck with these error prone methods instead.

That's why all previous capes such as minecon and others should be made available to all players. Capes should become standard cosmetics without elitism, so that players can put any design they want. This will completely destroy the black markets and doxing, because now everyone will be able to wear capes of any design
A Mojang dev said they wanted to devalue capes. By giving them to basically anyone.

Please make a video on the history of servers BEFORE LOBBY/HUB based servers. MC was way better before every server turned to a damn hub based server.

Mojang should at some point implement duplicate usernames. It's the only way to stop this level of hacking (and to destroy the entire OG accounts community lol).
Everyone has a uuid associated with their Minecraft account so I don’t know why duplicate names aren’t allowed

Even a name like mine is probably somewhat desirable at this point. On hypixel, I have seen that names like mine become harder and harder to find and it's a bit sad. If they don't allow duplicate names, there will be a day where there are basically no original names or even semi-original ones.

The hacker topic reminded me of an incident I had at the end of last year, for some reason my MC account got hacked and I tried my hardest to recover it, contacted support for MC and Microsoft but they both screwed me over, and the weird thing it that it got hacked like after a week or smth when the MC Java and Bedrock released. The weird thing is that I had to be the one whose account had to get hacked.

I actually had the same issue, and for a yr I didnt do anything but then I decided to see if I could get it back, and if you have it, you could get your transaction id (as said in the video), thats how I got mine back
I use to have a textfolder with 10k minecraft accounts. Most of them didnt work but some of the accounts worked.
