Hi Kat! ❤️ I love this breakdown of ketamine. I feel like this encapsulates the nature of the medicine well. I’ve worked at a ketamine clinic for two years as an integrator and now as head of integration. And generally, I find what you described to be true, which is why in my preparation and integration with patients I emphasize somatic work for a holistic healing approach.
I also want to say that my integration approach is largely influenced by working with you and everything you’ve taught me. I’ve brought you up a lot at my clinic 😆❤️
One observation I would add to this from working with so many people is that although this medicine’s specialty is creating the space for a new perspective, I’ve seen many cases where the space creates the pocket for people to feel their feelings. Everyone’s experience is individualized, depending on where they’re at and what they need; their body and spirit delivers, but it also depends on their level of readiness. I do my best to cultivate an environment where people have both an understanding and felt sense of safety to navigate the experience. And as you said, because it’s a dissociative, I prioritize guiding people back to feeling and connecting to their body, the earth, and others. Thank you so much Kat for being a truly wonderful teacher. ❤️

^I think what’s able to happen for people is that the space Ketamine creates can down regulate the nervous system to a place where feelings are within one’s capacity to process. So processing feelings happens as a more indirect byproduct of the space created. But the somatic integrative piece definitely needs to be emphasized when guiding people to work with this medicine.

@@raquelg6522wow thank you for sharing this! I’d love to learn more about your program. I’ve been curious about trying ketamine, and have even been offered a job in a clinic but I’m really wanting to learn more about everything you said prior. I know people who are still struggling, years later about bad k experience, and others that have really benefited. Are you open to discussion, or mind sharing your clinic info so I can lean more? 🙂🙏

Yes I agree with this. For my personal experience, I found ketamine to be a very similar (though different of course) experience to Aya. Ketamine actually allowed me to feel my feelings VERY fully. My Dr. says if you’re crying very hard that’s how you know it’s working, which was true for me. I do of course work with a somatic therapist afterwards to help me integrate my experience, just as I do with Aya. Also K allows me to have a smaller, more achievable list of items to integrate, because the experience is shorter, more frequent than Aya- where she can give months worth of lessons and sometimes the completion of those tasks get lost. Primarily- for my personal experience with both medicines, Ketamine has allowed a most rapid neural-plastic boost, but this I’m sure is also due to the availability (it’s legal and less expensive in the US). If I was able to work with Aya as frequently as I get to work with Ketamine, I would. But I think Ketamine currently in the US provides an extraordinary option for rapid relief- until it is just as accessible to work with Aya to the same degree.

Well said. Totally agree with everything you said. Also, it doesn't work for approximately 25% of people, so I think some people can try it, not get the desired relief and believe this entire avenue of "plant medicines/psychedelics" doesn't work for them.
