My ou Alma Mater, wat ‘n pragtige studente dorp. I studied, played rugby on Coetzenburg and possibly serenaded with Sonia’s mother in the good old days when Maties and Ikeys competed annually. The Route 44 and sculptures did not exist then. Thanks for showcasing this diamond in the bosch.
Sonia's mom often shared serenading stories. 🎼😊 It's so amazing that the town is still as charming and beautiful as it clearly was back then. I can hear how fondly you remember the town. Thank you for sharing those memories with us! 🤩🚗

I'm glad you enjoyed our outing to Stellenbosch. That sculpture garden really looks like an enchanted land, it's a good way to describe it! And with the beautiful mountains as backdrop, absolutely beautiful! ⛰️🗿The bonsai at the Botanical Garden were stunning, I can never quite fathom how they can cultivate a little tree that looks exactly like the bigger brother or sister, that blows my mind! 🌳💚 It's a very beautiful town and it was a pleasure to drive through some of the streets. 🚗
We got very close to home here and we visited each of the remaining towns with a clear view of what we wanted to see and share in our videos. I hope you enjoyed our outing to Stellenbosch. 😁🚗
Thank you so much for your kind comment! We're so happy whenever we get the opportunity to travel that we're always excited and enthusiastic! It beats sitting in the office any day of the week! 😁 It's great that you're tagging along! 🚗🇿🇦
How nice to wake up memories of the 70 ties. Hostel life studying and having fun as student. Thank you Stellenbosch is an awesome town and also has such a rich history. I love this video
Stellenbosch is indeed a town where the history runs deep! And too much beauty to show in one video and to experience in one visit! We realised that this is another place so close to home (for you too!) that one should really make the effort to go and explore more of the town and those beautiful buildings on display! Glad you enjoyed. 🚗🏛️
I'm glad that we could show you a little glimpse of the present-day University of Stellenbosch campus with such beautiful buildings. And the rest of the town covered in trees, super gorgeous! 🌳🏛️ It sounds like you were reminded of wonderful times in your past! 😊
Theology- with a statue of one of my ancestors, John Murray. It was wonderful to see! 2017 I was there, but boy we got lost in Stellies. Bo- dorp, onder - dorp ? 😂
Stellenbosch has become a very big town and I understand completely that you got lost there! Those campus buildings are all so beautiful and it must be even more so for you with such a personal association with the Theology Building. Thank you for watching our video! 🚗🏛️
Hi you two! Thank you for this outing, Stunning market, stunning sculptures, stunning town, varsity and (of course) stunning skies - my bek hang oop! I did not see some good Cape wine and brandy at Root, but maybe I just missed it? This was one of your most beautiful videos of our beloved country. Keep going and Keep safe!
Thank you so much, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Stellenbosch, a truly beautiful place! 🌳🏛️ As far as I know, they don't sell wine and spirits at Root 44, other than at the eateries, but I could also have missed it. The two of us aren't big wine drinkers, but we did swing by five of the estates between Stellenbosch and Somerset West as you will see in today's video, which I hope you'll enjoy just as much. 🍷😁
We so enjoyed this video of Stellenbosh. An absolute gem which although lived in SA for 22 years, never ventured to the Cape. However, we did spend part of our Honeymoon, 62 years ago at Rhodesia by the Sea. Beautiful part of the world. Thank you so much
Thank you, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed 'seeing' Stellenbosch again! It's a wonderful town with incredibly beauty! 🌳🏛️ We appreciate you watching our videos and that they remind you of your visit to Simon's Town all those years ago! I have no doubt that you also saw our video of Simon's Town, but if you haven't yet, it's Episode 250. 🚗🌊
Thank you for showing us the lovely Stellenbosch again. What can I say that have not been said...just beautiful. SB has one problem...getting in and out of it at peak traffic...man o man..
Thanks for visiting Stellenbosch with us, it is such a historic place with so much beauty to boot! 🌳🏛️ Sonia worked there for about a year and agrees with you about the traffic! She travelled back-and-forth from Strand every day and regularly encountered snarl-ups on the R44. 🚗😨
There are nice South African towns and then there's Stellenbosch. Cream of the crop, in my opinion. You get the best of everything. The hills, the light, the vineyards and proximity to the ocean. Just lekker. ❤
Agreed, set aside enough time when you do though. You will be provided with a brochure, explaining the thought process behind each sculpture. A truly amazing experience indeed! 🗿🤩
A total delight to see Stellenbosch through your eyes. I lived there for 3.5 years in the early 80s and absolutely loved it! Was so good to see the sculpture garden, too. A wonderful new addition to the many attractions on offer.
So you must know Stellenbosch very well, having lived there for a number of years! Since I've known the town, it has grown incredibly, so I can imagine even more so from your point of view. 😳 The sculpture garden was a fantastic experience, one can get lost there for a whole day, I'm sure! ⛰️🗿I'm glad you enjoyed this episode. 😁🚗
I love all your videos and will binge watch them for hours when I can. I have learnt so much already and cannot wait to explore these places myself one day. Love the music in your videos as well. Keep up the great job you guys. We can escape a little to all the beautiful places you visit. Thank you for sharing!
Yay! Stellenbosch! I was hoping for another visit. Love the sculptures, some are beautiful, some are a little scary! Visiting the university brings back memories of years ago when I taught Latin at DF Malan high school. WE would come out to Stellenbosch for our MTM. Our annual athletics inter-school. The sportground was nearby, and I would sneak out and walk around Stellenbosch and take in all those beautiful old buildings. Then, come back and do my pawiljoendiens, and then sneak out again and go have an ice cream somewhere. As you can tell, sport was never really my thing! We came to the Botanical Gardens to celebrate my husbands 78 birthday. It was magic. We had such a delicious lunch out under the trees and then explored the gardens.
I always love reading your comments, Anna! You have so many vivid memories, delightful tales to tell, and pertinent information to share - is there anywhere you hadn’t been when you lived in SA? I gather you have been living elsewhere for some time? Please keep contributing to the comments.
@@desh7120 Thank you Des. I just speak from the heart. I haven't been in Transvaal or Natal much. I love sharing my experiences and reading about others. Yes, I am in New Zealand. We emigrated in 1993 to provide our children(now grown up) with a decent future.
@Anna Witter The setting of the sculpture garden lends itself perfectly to those statues. The staff provide each visitor with a guide which explains Dylan Lewis' aesthetic and thinking process. It's very involved and I hope to encourage others to also go and experience this place. It was wonderful walking around there and admiring what one person created with his own two hands (and mind!). 🗿The Botanical Gardens are small, but incredibly beautiful, what a perfect setting for your husband's birthday lunch. Stellenbosch must remain one of the most beautiful towns in our country! 🌳🏛️ We're glad you came along with us again!
Yoh. One needs a week in Slellies at least. But showing the Route 44 Market, that has been upgraded since I was last there... and the Sculpture Garden that I didn't know about was pretty cool. R15 for Botanical Gardens... wow man. They probably just want to keep it clean and vagrants out. That's cool. I may need to visit there again one day. Great vid again. Thanks.
I was also a little shocked that I could experience all that beauty at the Botanical Garden for only R15, but I think you're spot-on and it is to keep unwanted elements out. They should really charge a lot more, because they do a fantastic job, it's an oasis in the middle of an already-beautiful town, so they should be commended for that! 🌳💚 Root 44 is now a spectacular facility with so much to offer and well worth a visit! Glad you enjoyed the video!
WOW...THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for all the time and effort you have put in to making these videos! For many of us who are longing to be back there, these videos are hitting a special spot in the heart! Baie Dankie!! I have just recently discovered this channel and I am watching your videos every day - catching up on all the ones you have done! Question: How do you keep your camera SO still? Do you have a special camera? And...you do just the right amount of talking - that is much appreciated. Some other "nature-type" videos I watch, the person is talking the whole time. Very annoying! I love that we can hear the sounds of nature in your videos. Makes it sooooo special!! I have one request: Could you asseblief attach the "smells" of everywhere you travel???? Blessings to both of you - and THANK YOU again!!
Welcome to our channel! It's fantastic to hear that you enjoy watching our videos of beautiful South Africa! There is so much beauty to discover and enjoy. 😍🇿🇦 Sonia's dad taught me everything I know about photography and, in typical and fantastic old-school fashion, he explained that a steady hand is key when taking pics. I guess I still try and please him and I was blessed with a very steady hand. 😊 I don't have a special camera at all. To the contrary, I film with the cellphone I use on a daily basis, a Samsung S22 Ultra, mounted on a regular selfie-stick. We do sometimes talk a lot more in our videos when we explore the smaller towns since there's literally a surprise around every corner and we can't contain our excitement, but that is just who we are! I have attached a few smells and I hope you enjoy them! 🚗👃🏻
Here's a little snippet re the botanical gardens: Fish were kept in the tanks between the shop and the bonsai garden, as well as in the other ponds. The staff noticed that the fish were disappearing and when the checked their CCTV, they saw the culprits were otters who used the canal next to the garden to gain access unnoticed to get an easy meal.
Wowzer, how interesting is that! 🦛 Thank you for sharing that with us. I must admit it would've been cool to see an otter, but they're naughty for catching the fish from the Botanical Garden. This probably all happened at nighttime, I'm guessing! 🐠🌳
