Liked the idea of overhead scrapping rather than using razor underneath. Only suggestion might be to try wet sanding, which I found is better on new paint to keep it from sticking in your paper. Nice Job Friend!
yeah but! What he is not bloody explaining is that, the blade must be new and super sharp, and when you scrape, you keep the blade at an angle (like he is doing on the video) and use a very light hand. If you don't, the paint will just peel off and you will have to spack fill... But a fresh stanley blade gently cuts them off, followed by orbital sanding with 320 or 400 grit...
Never without my yellow Stanley window scraper . Does a multitude of tasks. £2.50 My most important tool. Just replace the blade when worn.I am a professional decorator for 30 years. Have all the tools of the trade but my favourite buddy is my window scraper.
Try a wet sand with a flat pad after you have removed the runs, leaves absolutely no trace of the runs after. Works much better than a dry sand with paper.
I like the scraping idea. Seems like that door has seen a lot of layers of paint over the years and it might be best to scrape the whole door and sand or even strip the paint off. Prime and repaint and use all new unpainted hinges. I never like seeing painted hinges. They look and work better not painted. New hinges are very cheap to buy at Home Depot but you have to match up your old hinges with the new ones. Measure the hinge and take a cell phone photo before going to the store. Some have round corners and some have square corners. If fact I changed out all my home door hinges with the brushed nickel ones. Looks great. I like to paint my trim in semi gloss vs gloss. It hides the mistakes and brush marks better and I always use a top quality brush like the top of the line from Purdy. It might cost $20 for a 2.5” or 3” brush but so worth it. The brush will last you years as long as you clean the brush with soap and water after every job.
The tungsten scraper is also my go-to tool for dealing runs, paint build up on edges of doors etc. But it's an idea I picked up from one of your videos way back. My other technique for runs is to wet sand, because it is fast, dust free, cuts quickly, and results in a lovely smooth finish.
@@matthewphilip1977 120 grit abranet on either a mirka deros , or festool rts 400 , goes through old paint runs in no time at all Rather than using a carbide scraper, then having to sand the whole surface also, the sanding with a suitable sander does both jobs 👍 a carbide scraper does have its uses, but there are more efficient methods now for this type of job.
How would you approach drips on the rounded parts (both rounded inward and outward) of more detailed molding? Have a old house circa 1900 I’m working on that has similar trim to what you have there around the door frame 😊
ASMR. This video had an ASMR affect on me. Ha ha....plus I also learned how to fix the sloppy painting mistake that I just made after painting the drywall in my garage. Thank You
I have those all over the house I bought! Dang amateurs . The house I sold was perfect because I pay attention to details so stupid mistakes like this dont happen.
That’s what I was wondering! It’s not a very helpful video if you don’t know what it is or where to get one. I’m over here googling paint drip remover 😂
Looks to me like you’re going to have to repaint though? If it’s really all the trips in a place that you didn’t do the original painting may not have the right paint sitting around.
Everyone likes a puzzle, anyway it's called a wood scraper. And you can get them from nearly every D.I.Y. place... and why put a link to just one seller.
Oh my. It’s like you are videoing the paint job in our home. The people we bought it from had no eye for detail.
Another outstanding video- I honestly can’t thank you enough for these. Your videos are like the oracle I consult before starting any project.
Thank you.
So glad I found your video. I have to do that to a paint job I tried doing on my own to my metal stairs! 👍🏼
Thank you, thanks for watching.
We need to see what the instrument looks like please! :)

OMG I’ve been using just sand paper..I never thought to use a scraper..and I have one! Thank you!
Thanks, your welcome.

WOW that's brilliant 😀 That's going to be a real game changer in my old Victorian lady renovation, thank you.
Thanks, your welcome.
Such a chill video, for some reason its very satisfying and relaxing
Thanks 👍
Thanks for everything..... best vids ever
Thank you.

What grit?
@@AnonYmous-qw1yk medium or fine grit.
Been using a card scraper but this looks like another good method.

Scrape off runs when they are dry, sand the runs then repaint whole area or just where runs where

That, or an orbital sander that will key/sand the whole door in the time it takes to remove the runs with the carbide scraper
A sander won't shift really old stubborn drips. You need to scrape.

You can use shaped wood sanding block, or just sand. Never easy when preparing for painting.
there a great tool I picked 2 up at the bootsale , quid each , the new blades for em are xpensive though , think there about 30 quid for 4
Yes great tool and like you say expensive. But you can get some off on trade cards.
You can get 10 for less than that price.

Scarston scraper
Sorry, but I was wondering the same thing. Guess I need a diaper change.
Or you could burn that door and fit a new one 🤪👍🏻
Just knock the whole house down and rebuild it 😬
Bit of a pointless video showing a tool - and then you don't tell us what the tool is called? Or where to buy or any internet link???????
Everyone likes a puzzle, anyway it's called a wood scraper. And you can get them from nearly every D.I.Y. place... and why put a link to just one seller.
Some people just like to be spoon-fed. Can I change your diaper also?
