Hey Jarrod, just wanted to say thank you for all the 15.6 Laptop reviews. Your videos really helped to narrow down a model. I've got a Ryzen 7 4800H, 16GM RAM, 1660Ti and the 80w battery Legion 5 coming next week. It was a close thing between that and the Omen but it was the thermals of the Omen that got the Lenovo's vote for me.

Excellent review/ excellent UPGRADE video as well !
I purchased this machine ($999 / Amazon in USA) for my daughter.
She’s in a phd program in the medical field, so mostly for “school paperwork” tasks,
occasional video / photo editing and some “gaming” (drone simulators).
She LOVES it! This replaces a 5yr old MacBook Pro….
I have the Lenovo P73 “Mobile Workstation” for my primary work & video editing.
It cost me over $4800 with hardware upgrades & 4-yr NBD warranty plan from Lenovo.
Guess what?
My daughter’s Legion-5 is NOT too shabby when I have used it for some video editing and rendering with
Black Magic’s DaVinci Resolve Studio v17.x Not too shabby at all !!
In fact, it’s quite usable.
Perhaps next time around, I’d consider getting a PAIR of Legion5’s and max them out w/hardware upgrades.
It would still be less than half the cost of the P73.
The smaller display (15.6 vs 17”) is no concern as I use dual external HDMI monitors.
You have an OUTSTANDING channel and really put in great effort ….
WHY IS THIS CHANNEL NOT 10m+ SUBS?
👍🏻

Thanks so much for the review! I was buying my first gaming laptop and was very nervous if I’m about to get a good one for a decent price. I decided on this one and it’s fantastic! Thanks all the information!
Legion 5 owner with this exact model here. Overall a great purchase for me or basically anyone, but there are a few things I want to point out from my experience.
1. The back panel scratches very easily. I scratched this laptop up a little just trying to remove the bottom panel and upgrade the storage. The material coating the hinge is very scratch-prone as well; you can almost rub it off.
2. When going into the monitor options you can only select 144Hz, there is no 60Hz option. I found a way to fix this using custom resolution utility, but it's weird that you couldn't change it with the existing software. Why do I care you might ask? Well it gives better battery life and some games (Ex: Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga) only support 60Hz panels!
3. Keyboard feels very very mushy. I got used to it after a few days but it's still not as satisfying. The layout, as Jarrod said, is quite nice. There are tons of little shortcuts that are very useful.
4. Very hard to open this laptop. Maybe I'm just bad, but I've never had such difficultly getting in.
5. As Jarrod says, build and overall quality is great.
6. Found a way to upgrade from 60 to 80 wH battery. Remove the drive mount and buy the 80 wH battery, it's about 100 dollars.
Can I still put my second nvme drive there with the drive cage removed and bigger battery?
@@atsq17 Yes you can.
@@petershen7949 How much battery life did you get out of your 80W legion 5, doing regular non-gaming tasks such as going on chrome, youtube etc?
@@vivekmotta4311 Looks like we are like-minded.
When you go into the advanced settings for your power plans and set everything to minimum, as well as disabling discrete graphics and setting CPU max usage to 50%, on 60W I got 5 to 7 hours (100% to 20%) using chrome, and 7 to 8 hours on the 80W.
I would say it is not worth the $100 upgrade, but if the extra 1-2 hours is important for you, then go ahead. If you could sell the 60W battery somewhere, then it would be worth it.
@@petershen7949 Hey could you elaborate more how to change the screen refresh rate step by step ?? I only have the 144hz option too and I would like to know how to change it ...thanks in advance

Good luck Friend.
Bought! Set it up against the Omen 15 and the Zephyrus g14, and this one was best. I also liked the Zephyrus very much, but it had to go, as its fans could not shut up, and you could only disable it with a 'handwritten' program, which incidently conflicted with other programs - at least for me.
I like this machine a lot! Nice to type on, silent when basically handling, a little plasticy compared to the Zephyrus, but comfortable and FAST all around!

I love the 7i's luxury design, also supported with Rtx which all Legion 5 units don't have in my area. But the 7i has lot of issues with thermal throttling, bad hinges, unnecessary flashy RGB, battery drain fast, while this Legion 5 seems perfect, and my area has exact the same unit in this video. It's hard to make decision though...
Just waiting for the RTX variant of this laptop.
you will wait and wait and when it's finally there, the highest you will get is a 2060!!!
I stopped waiting and got the intel one today lo

Lmao
shots fired at the a15 and omen. 😂😂 love how you just snuck those in there 👏
Great Review. First video ive seen of Yours, and I feel like i trust You!
I got this one 2 weeks ago. Need big punch, quite cooling, great screeen, good keyboard. No longer available in most online shops. The build is more solid than thinkpad t470. Found only with 1650ti. Battery 4-5 hours 80w. No thunderbird. Expandable ram to 64gb, exta ssd space.
Hi, great review but I have one question: When you say "Clicks down everywhere" do you mean everywhere? I just got the Legion 5 AMD 4800H UK version with RTX 2060 (aka Legion 5P) and I noticed that the trackpad doesn't actually click on the top: there is about a 30% area of the top of the trackpad which is unclickable and after asking other users they told me that their Legion 5's behave the same. Can you please double check that part? Thank you!
He seems to say that for all laptops with a clickpad. I wish it was still true where clickpads automatically click down anywhere but finding proper touchpads on amd laptops has been incredibly difficult and none of them have both a good pad and a good screen.
@@Henk717 seems to be the case with most gaming laptops. I guess they assume that most gamers would primarily use a mouse, which is a pity as many creators or even researchers would buy a gaming laptop for its high processing power, and having a crappy touchpad really decreases productivity
@@atriantafy Yup, in addition i like to actually game on the laptop and am pretty good at playing games on a high quality touchpad as its on my lap while laying down on the couch. Far more relaxing than sitting behind a desk after i already set behind a desk all day. So for me a gaming laptop with a touchpad unfit for gaming isn't a gaming laptop.
But the problem is far wider if you want a laptop with a decently performing non nvidia gpu. Its simply impossible. My old laptop had a fantastic 1366x768 screen that has accurate scaling with great looking colors and a decent contrast ratio. But while its a selling point for me reviewers slam laptops that are not full hd ips. So the market is flooded with 6-bit 45% sRGB ips screens with viewing angles so terrible my 1366x768 TN panel in the old one has wider viewing angles.
I think its a disgrace what the industry has become because almost all reviews and almost all laptops are terrible these days. While in 2010 i had no issues finding a laptop at all. In 2014 it was difficult to find something exactly to my liking but it was doable. And now i compromised my standards to AMD or Intel Xe, good looking display, a numpad and a good clickpad or physical buttons underneath the touchpad. And after 3 months i am still empty handed.
Had my eyes on the legion 5 with Ryzen 7 and rtx3060 after watching your reviews. Finally picked one up after starting a new job and was extremely impressed
Which one is Best, which one should we get,
Omen 15 (Ryzen 7, RTX 2060)
. OR
Legion 5p (Ryzen 7, RTX 2060)
I would go for the OMEN, Better cooling than the Legion. the Legion is doing good with the GTX up to 80 watt, anything above that they will use 6 cores processer or it will overheat!!!
@@raptorslam84 Thankss mate, I'll take that into consideration...!!! But the Legion 5p comes with ryzen 7, so how will it perform...?
@@cesquex this is the problem which driving me crazy, if you see Jarrod's benchmarks, the Intel CPU's are winning by 10% with the same exact GPU!! I am not a fan of either AMD or Intel, I am with the best performance but it seems like if you want AMD processor to work at best then you will put a low watt GPU.
@@cesquex if I ware you, I will choose an Intel 8 cores CPU with an RTX GPU, you will have less performance in CPU but way better GPU than an AMD laptop.
@Ben Quackenbush When it comes to gaming, right now Intel processer is better because of the performance of the singe core, and if you check the bench marks that Jarrod put, you will see that core i7 10750 that has 6 cores is beating the 8 cores AMD in FPS by 5 to 10%, I have msi with core i7 10750 processor and RTX 2060 and it gives more FPS than this legion 5, I know you will say that you have the GTX not the RTX but even if you have RTX you still can't have than same performance because of:
1- the single core advantage that intel has, and it will make a difference in games.
2- if you have any GPU more than 80 watt, your laptop will have high thermals.
Watching this on my redmi note 8 but i do have a legion 5 15ARH. Great review! 👍
Hey jarrod as always great work man. Will you review the rtx 2060 variant of the amd legion 5?
he can't cause it wasn't available in his country and he needed to import the laptop(the 1660ti version) from USA to review it.
Nice video ! I've bought the 2060 variant and it's on the way !
Wonder if I should have just bought the 1660 one instead after looking at your review hmm
I'm pretty convinced of the same
How's the performance on the 2060?
@@jmleon92 pretty good i would say. Haven't had much game to test it out esp on those with raytracing capabilities . Played mostly on DOS2(144fps), CSGO(200~) & Genshin and the temps were on average 58-60 degree with good fps .
Dang I was thinking of getting the Asus G14 with the Ryzen 9 now I might have to reconsider. Plus I'm seeing a lot of software issues with the g14.
i got the lenovo legion y520 since it came out and so far i don't have any issues with it! so i definitely recommend this new one to anyone who is looking for a gaming laptop!
The camera in all honesty isn't that bad.
it isnt?
@@kahgin right, I've decided on buying the ryzen 7 rtx 2060 legion 5 :)
@@GammaRBLX where did you get the ryzen 2060 version?
@@JawVee I actually couldn't find any here, so I went with the i7 RTX 2060 config. The i7 + rtx 2060 config runs very solidly and the i7 actually outperforms the ryzen 7 when it comes to pure gaming. The laptop overall has no issues and runs beautifully. So if you can't find a ryzen 7 + rtx 2060 config then you can always go with the i7 + rtx 2060 variant since that runs very well too.
