      Most machinist when they cut the bigger valves do a little de,shrouding, with a cuter. You lose a couple cc's but they run great that way.

    I’ve got a 454HO forged rotating assembly in a standard L29 gen 6 block. Same small dome pistons but I’ve got the milder 454HO cam, not the zz502. I’ve been going back and forth on heads. These videos really help real world guys like me put something together without taking out a 2nd mortgage on the house! I keep running into really low compression ratios when looking at the GM heads. The large combustion chambers on the 781s and 236s have put my CR in the low 8s… Is it even possible to make 450hp with a factory head on my 454HO bottom end without spending $3k on AFRs? Super excited to see how the bone stock 781s do!

    • @dzperformance7360
      @dzperformance7360  3 месяца назад +1

      In my opinion the quickest way to touch 500 horsepower on that motor is get some 781, Mill. down.030 to 113 combustion chamber, air gap intake and Scorpion 1.8 rockers I would estimate that would get you right below 500 , and good condition 781 for 300 bucks is not hard to find

    If you used the RPM air gap on the peanut ports then there was quite a bit of mismatch in ports, correct? I don’t know of any matching port aftermarket manifolds. It is nice the torques at 4000 is very equal across the board. Peanuts are probably better below 4k.

    • @msh6865
      @msh6865 3 месяца назад +1

      The original Edelbrock Performer dual plane is what you want for the PP heads. Smaller runners that more closely match the PP's.

      @dzperformance7360  3 месяца назад +2

      You cannot gasket match the peanut ports to a oval port what you can do is bevel and round the port to nearly match the gasket of a oval Port gasket

      @@dzperformance7360 there is a channel here on RUclips that might interest you. The name is "operatingengineer" and he has built and raced RV 454's with peanut ports heads and a Summit flat tappet cam in a '69 Camaro with very nice results. He ports the heads himself and bell mouths the intake port openings to match a oval port gasket. Very impressive for heads a lot of guys toss in the scrap pile.

    • @antilaw9911
      @antilaw9911 3 месяца назад +1

      True but the head runner is sucking in the heads direction and can't tell any difference anyway. The opening of the intake ports does not know that the intake manifold ports are larger. Just bevel the intake ports on the heads some so it's not just a flat squared opening. Somebody could do a dyno test to see but I doubt it's worth it to make any difference. Also, another thing that goes against conventional thinking is, the smaller peanut ports have stronger velocity and use up more of the cam RPM range efficiently for a cam up to around 230+ degrees @50. Probably using 90% of camshaft, whereas larger or too big ports would use maybe 70% of that same cam on the upper range. Big huge ports might LOOK impressive but even the large factory chevy BB heads were over kill for anything under 800HP. So unless your strictly drag race only.....?

    Velocity builds torque for the win. With some intake runner work you can extend the useable RPM range of PP heads to around 5500. The 502/502 cam is about as big as the PP's can support. But, what potent combo in a heavy street car!

      @@rickbaker9053 but to answer your questions 236 heads are almost 120+ cc chambers I have not milled mine but I really should, I ran steel shim gaskets to raise compression and have flat tops so I’m guessing 8.5 compression, the cam is a summit 1302 .540 lift 228 238 @50 as far as RPMs with a single spring with damper and 120# on the seat it will easily rev to 6000 that’s what I used to shift at then I went down to 5500 and it went just as fast , I actually put my heads on a flow bench and that day I brought a 2.06 valve 781 that also still had 2.06 valves as this video says my home ported 2.06 valve out flowed the 781 up to .500 lift then the 781 walked away! So with a small cam like mine and low RPMs peanut ports are an awesome street car head! I’m not new to big block street cars and drag racing I have had many rectangular port and oval port street cars and these peanut ports are the first I ever tried and the low end torque and throttle response is great ! (I also flowed a bone stock 236 head to see if my porting helped as many people said it probably hurt more than helped ! They were wrong! ) the intake ports are so tiny any porting right or wrong helps!
