Hey Nick Great looking short block nice pictures also Love the 69 camaro. road trip has many benefits sometimes
Love your channel thanks for the awesome videos. I'm currently duplicating this exact build for a 1 ton square body. My question is what head gasket did you use with the #781 heads? I was told there are water passage differences on the newer roller block.
Hey Nick. Great to see a video from you again. Always a pleasure!
That's really nice of you to say but that one I just threw some junk together appreciate you watching though
Roadtrippin' for big block parts is a good time. But, aren't all antlers crooked? 😁
Nice score! Looking forward to the magnaflux results after tear down and clean.
Is your Camaro running okay,, what's up with your car
Thx Nick!! Some great pictures....The crooked antler...what a name for a bar..lol
That's what I thought
Me and my buddy had pizza it was actually good
😊
What heads are on the 396 ?
#290
I have always heard if you change just a few things on that 396 it would make 450 hp because the original one did 1965 396 was 450 hp you just proved it once again Thanks bud 👍
I was confused when I saw your legs. Didn't know what I was looking at, till I saw your wiener. Totally inappropriate, bro. Totally.
Apples to apples I'll take the 400 SBC all day long
What length pushrods did you use and spring pack
Length of pushrods I don't remember I measure those custom for every motor the Springs was 929 - 16 by Comp Cams
@@dzperformance7360 copy that thank you! Sounds great
RTV job is really bad, can't beieve you did that.
you're going to bust my ass about the silicone?
I have a 383 11-1 compression, Xr294hr cam with 1.6 rockers, AFR 195 heads. Was trying too hit 500 hp and Tq.
Sounds like you got the stuff to easily achieve your goals
Cool motor thanks for chiming in
My friend ran that grind in a 4.3 ARCA truck. It won alot of races. Including starting from the back on purpose at Eldora. I see it!
Nice. I like the torque curve. I looks flat. Great for the street.
I recently did the Comp Cam hydraulic roller retrofit also really woke up my BBC, great video keep them coming that truck is going to be a blast to drive
Nice!
Thanks!
Love those square dimes. That's gonna be a scary ride for sure. 👍 Lovin it. You looking to race Eric in his S10? 😁
Wasn't but it sounds like a pretty good idea
@@dzperformance7360 I agree. 😈 LoL 😆
Hope he has a good convertor with that cam
20 in the hole plus head gasket thickness. Humm ?
Yeah it would run a lot better with a thin head gasket
What compression?
10.4 to 1
@@dzperformance7360 thank you!
😮
Wow. Epic moon. Beautiful. A 4bolt bigblock is cool, too. Lol
Great channel Nick! Got great presentation! Let’s get you up to 10,000 subscribers!
Thanks for the positive support
Man, 1970s Mark 4 four bolt main engines are as rare as hens teeth. I can't tell you how many of those I've tore down and they were all two bolt. I wonder what that was originally, like an over-the-counter engine?
I know what you mean, I buy a lot of 454s and you very rarely find a 1970s 4 bolt Main. this one I believe came out of a one ton dually truck but I've also heard that the early 1970 to 73 Corvettes almost all the 454s were four Main when used in Corvettes
The one 70s dually 454 my brother had was 2 bolt. I have not heard the 70-73 corvette 454 were 4 bolt and I doubt it, except for the one year only 71 LS6 454 in the vette. My 69 corvette with original 390 HP 427 is two bolt for what it's worth.
Wow that's interesting, lot of the stuff you're told is not always completely true ,I bet there was a 4 bolt main in a 73 454 Corvette at one time somebody found one and started that rumor. @@stevenbauer2205
A lot of questions about the 4 bolt main blocks of the 70s why did they even produce them the motors didn't make near enough horsepower to need them, and I know they existed because I've got my hands on a few of them
I can see where the 450 horse Chevelles had 4 bolt mains but not much of the others. I have one 4 bolt 454 1977 but it was a crate engine originally. I wonder if yours could have been an over the counter engine also or is it coded to the Dually.
Glad that you’re out there rescuing these things and allowing them to live up to their potential. Any closed chamber heads videos coming?
Crazy that you asked that!!! My friend Mark Jones Vortex Pro is currently working on a set of closed chamber heads that I'm going to test on the GM performance parts 454 that I will be testing with
@@dzperformance7360 that's awesome. If we can get a recepe for a set of closed chamber heads that we can just bolt on a factory flat or dish piston short lock, a lot of budget possibilities will become reality.
@@dzperformance7360heck yea! Been curious what they would make. I got some 702s on a flat top 454 with that xe268 from comp. Runs good but never dyno’d it. Will be watching to see what they do 🍿
Nice score, keep the videos coming
Thanks, will do!
Good job if you need some 4.155 slugs let me know
I love how you just write everything in the valve covers, timing cover, etc. 👍 Great video!
Appreciate the info! Would you not really need to remove the trunnions to compare? ie, only the rotating mass matters. If a beefier rocker with a larger, stronger trunnion weighs more, some of it may be the trunnion. For the 20g saved with the Scorpion might be in the smaller trunnion.
What you're saying sounds right incorrect but it's funny how it just works out that way the lighter rocker on the table goes to a higher RPM without floating don't know exactly why but it works that way
What is the creaking noise?
The car has polyurethane bushings in the a arms and throughout,, they are stiff in the corners but creek going into the drive at Sonic
Sounded llike the 400 didn't have enough timing and it wasn't reved very high.
The cam small base circle ?
no
Do you have stoker clearance rod
They are summit 5.7 rods that I put extra clearance in the rod bolt area
Okay to be perfectly clear the summit rods do have extra clearance for stroker application but I ground on them some more and then weight match them up
I have one of these in my 1970 Chevelle SS. Used AFR265s and a mild isky 275/284 and made 580hp. Awesome little big block! I want to get 600+ out of it. I can’t let my Mom’s 3 row SUV have more power than my Chevelle!
Hi dz, do you have contact info? I’m wanting some cam advice for my street 505 in my 72 camaro. Hydraulic roller and afr enforcer or promaxx 317 heads. 91 octane fuel. Thanks!
816 213 7204 Nick you can text me and I'll call you back if you want to talk about your project I'll give you my opinions
What cam you running in 496
Nice run, what gear ratio are you running?
3.90 to1
@@dzperformance7360 Thanks!
Would love to see a q jet low rise compared to this manifold in a video with this cam or a ho cam
You guys are all amazing and you wouldn't believe how much all you guys have helped me in building my own hot rod. Thank you so much. Question is it bad to jave used 1 brand of break in oil for a bit and switch brands? I used brad penn break in oil in my 461 bbc 781 heads hydraulic roller cam roller lifters roller rockers heads ran on stand 30 min 3k and got it up to temp and ran about 15 times after. I then broke 3 different push rod guides. I got adjustable after that dumped the oil couldnt get brad penn had to get ams oil break in oil ran engine for 50 miles and an going to have to dump it again because of an issue with to much gas on the oil (carb issue) so sorry to bother you just dont want to ruin my engine. Thanks again for all you guys ive done a lot of this because of you guys so its your fault!!!! Lol
I am worried about washing my cylinder walls because of gas has gotten into my ams oil break in oil so ima dump it to be safe but also didn't know if it was bad using different brands of break in oil I don't have 100 miles on the engine yet. Thanks again I'll shut up now
I would think you've got something out of alignment and it wouldn't have anything to do with the type of oil
Just curious what was list number on the street avenger 870?
Holly 0-80870
@@dzperformance7360 thanks Nick
Over 700 Ft/pound of torque sounds Way way too high for that engine.
I built a lot of combinations like this and previously 680 foot pounds of torque is most I've ever seen
Normal numbers for this combination before this outing was 700 horse 680 foot pounds of torque
@@dzperformance7360 interesting, the dyno probably sneezed a little differently that day. Still a nice engine though.
@@michaelparadisis4076 I think it was Eric's video, he even said something similar. I think he attributed it to the fresh mountain air, or something like that. LoL
711 on pump gas is really really impressive like wow!
The old man sent me!
Nick I didn’t even know you had a channel! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thanks for letting me and Eric come up and visit,, hope we can get invited to come back and do some Street strip racing
New sub, heard about you from Erics video
Thanks for the sub!
thanks Nick for the specs iam building a 498 for my sons truck was it a hydraulic cam or solid
It's a hydraulic cam with solid lifters,, solid lifters only make a few extra horsepower but they're so reliable on the dyno and consistent , that's what I always use, but it's a guarantee when I sell the motor every customer wants to switch to hydraulic lifters
@@dzperformance7360 thank for the response
Man...someone got the camshaft right! With unported TFs and an unported Vic Junior....and 10:1. YEAH! I make 857 with BBrv2plus and an HV idk something or other Brodix and a lot more camshaft but at 14.3:1. CP, K1, Manley crank(love that crank) Good numbers indeed.
Love it when Bob gets excited
Good job bro
Thanks
Really nice work ,,, big block Chevys never disappoint
