    I’m a month sober, I can feel the difference in health both mentally and physically. Abstinence feels like a sacrifice at first but it’s more of a trade off. You trade immediate pleasure for something greater like your health. I feel like this time I’ll never drink again, I thank God for that.

      Congrats on your sober month! The improvements to both your mental and physical health will keep improving; at least they did for me, to a surprising extent. I literally feel decades younger than at my worst state while drinking and the positive payoffs have been more than I could have hoped for. Life completely turned around and back to getting fulfillment from life instead of doing things like being hospitalized and scaring loved ones, etc. You got this for the long term, this time! Just go for it and don't look back on your old life and don't include the unnecessary poison that is alcohol any more. You can even reward yourself with the money you've saved, by treating yourself to something else more lasting and splurging the $ on that instead! I think Kevin O'Hara hits on so many good points in his videos, including this one. What he says is so relatable and doesn't hype anything up - keeps it real, which is the best way to approach sobriety. Calm minded and strong! Thanks for all your videos, Kevin!

      7 1/2 years alcohol free. Good job starting this long journey. If you get cravings, look up videos about end stage liver disease. Watch the videos of people in hospice or hospital. Watch the family videos holding hands with their dying loved one. The cravings will vanish watching the reality of alcohol end game. Good luck

    I quit drinking feb 9, 2021 and haven’t had a drop since. I had been drinking for 40 years.
    Quitting was the best decision of my life. I tried and failed several times before. Something told me that if I didn’t quit I wouldn’t make it to 60. It was very difficult and almost failed several time but I just keep resisting the urge. 3 1/2 years sober and I no longer miss it and the devastation it brings. I know I’m not cured, that’s why I can’t have one drop.
    Best wishes to you all. Praying you can become sober too 🙏

    So glad I clicked on this and watched. Wonderful words of encouragement. April 1st 2024 I decided to challenge myself and take a week off from drinking after 25 years of hardcore shotgunning beers and binge drinking. That week has now almost turned into 6 months. I also want to thank all the people in the comments section with their stories and achievements. I know we're digital strangers who will never meet but we've all gone through it. Gives me comfort im not alone in my continued battle. The results from alcohol abuse turned into me being diabetic and permanent peripheral neuropathy (I have burning, stabbing, numbness, pins and needles in my feet). Please don't let this become you before it's too late.

    So here’s the thing: it used to be like this, hey, let’s grab a few beers after we surf. And that was a fun thing, without any aprehensión or worry. Then it became, wait, before we paddle out, let’s be sure to pack a cooler full of beers. AND there was a feeling of dread, a feeling of I shouldn’t be doing this again, maybe I shouldn’t have this first one, and I don’t want to surf unless I have those cold beers at the ready. I knew the difference! It was no longer any fun, but something that I knew wasn’t going to end well. Having almost 90 days under my belt, I can now see the difference, and why I don’t want to drink. Thank you Kevin, your videos have helped me over the last year with this struggle, Dave

    Quit drinking for a few weeks and go get bloodwork done to see how your body is functioning. Realize that alcohol causes all sorts of issues that can be resolved simply by quitting. After bringing your health into a measurable framework, you will become acutely aware that the choices you make can determine how long you will live and how you’ll feel and function on that journey through life. It may help tremendously in changing your habits and lifestyle.

Recently I have become unwell and one of my symptoms is vertigo and it seriously feels like I'm now walking around incredibly drunk which I find ironic. Hopefully it eases up soon. I don't think I would be able to cope with this if I was still drinking. All the best to everyone on their journeys.

    Over the past forty years I’ve managed to quit for various lengths of time. However, I know this time I am done for good. The only difference this time around is that compared to the previous attempts is that my muscles ache, my joints ache. My legs amd my hips. I blame it on my sedentary “lifestyle” i.e. TOO much sitting. Once my energy is descent I’m hitting the trails.
    Oh, I also have a wicked craving for candy and chocolate bars. Still, better than drinking. I know the sweets craving will pass.

    Going on about 2 weeks 95% sober. Had a beer or 2 in that time frame (coulda done w o) but over all I really don’t crave it like I used to. Went from drinking 12-18 beers (5%abv and up) and a few shots a day to practically nothing. Going 1-2 days w o drinking was an accomplishment and one I had to fight urges with. I’ve tried many self help ideas to no avail. Really started diving into the connection of addiction and gut health. I just started eating a bit cleaner and drinking about 1/2 a gallon of RAW local cows milk a day. The bacteria etc has really leveled my stomach out and in turn affected my mood in a positive way. I used to say “I only drink to feel good. Wish there was a way to feel good w o drinking..”. I think I’ve found it. I also have psoriasis and psoriatic athritus. RAW milk has helped me w that as well. Just my journey and 2 cents. I hope I can keep it up. Looking to put an exercise routine in daily as well.

    Good to have discovered this . I'm absolutely ready to just stop, it's pointless to me I have a few drinks and have only been drunk once in nearly twenty years , at a family wedding in Scotland where younger members were plying my son with drink , not from badness, everytime they weren't looking I just necked the drink and learned two things , I still have a fairly fierce capacity for drink , but that being up all night going to the toilet , then feeling vaguely hungover which ruined a precious days vacation with family and friends.
    It's a waste of time

    Because most probably you will have to quite or you will want to quite the " friendships" with whom you just went to the pub or to the disco ....and wat about going out in the evening?with or without mates ...i mean, the whole nightlife scenery is based on alcohol....

    • @HabitsV2
      @HabitsV2  15 дней назад +2

      You said it. I don't miss the nightlife scene at all. Much prefer to be alive during the day, get a good night's sleep every night, and be ready to power on through the next day. It's a good way to live. As for drinker friends... People are going to do what they're going to do. If it's not what you do, you need new friends.

The loud talking , the forgetting what they were saying, the interrupting. Ha. How was that ever fun? Started stacking firewood yesterday then drunk friend comes to "help" . No worries, Stephen. Enough alcohol does a great job in blocking the personal stuff in the moment. But it's still there, as you know, the moment you come around. Only now you're in a worse position to sort through the problems. It's tough in the beginning to face up to reality, but you mature into living life on it's own terms, facing into things regardless how uncomfortable they might seem... Best of luck to you.

      Stopping drinking is not a cure-all. It's a beginning. What you do from their is up to you. A good life is what you make it.

    Three months. Again, I've relapsed a dozen times, this time actually is different. The giant surgical scar in my throat from life threatening infections in my spinal column thanks to consequences of drinking are literally right there. Anyway, ya can't get rid of me that easy :) Sleep is still a nemesis, but it's back to the one I'm used to from middle/high school. Im just a night owl. I am up till God awful times of the night, fall and stay asleep just fine, and wake up at 10:30.
    But you know what? Instead of celebrating with a beer for lunch, sleeping in Is the treat :D I work with people across oceans, so that is fine.
    I need to finally get to resistance training. This latest surgery made it somewhere between Quite Impractical to Completely Impossible. But that changed five days ago.
    To my brother's and sistas and everyone that's part of this giant, kinda odd family, never give up hope. And I guarantee we love You.

    Thank you ! For me I wonder how my drinking friends at my social club handle this , especially during football season coming . I hope I won’t have to quit them also . Greetings from Massachusetts ! Thank you . When I see your dogs it makes me think of mine had him for almost 15 years and I look back I was much healthier then running with my dog . If I can commit to giving up drinking I can commit to a new puppy.

      I've experimented a lot over the years. It's a personal thing. Test things out. Avoid any processed rubbish. Drink fresh water. Whole foods.

    I dont disagree with you but being focused on personal improvement is also a toxic cycle. Always beating yourself up for not being perfect. Doing everything around trying to be perfect. Heal up your trauma. Pick better people to be around. Live in the moment. If thats enjoying a couple seasonal beers, so be it. Ig drinking is holding you back then quit. I know even a few beers in a night will grind me to a hault for a coupel days. So dont do it when its inappropriate. But if wanna go for a bike ride and have a couple drinks cause the next day is my day of rest then i will. All alcohol is toxic but so is all drinks but perfect water. Again, i totally agree just dont medicate with another obsession like personal growth because you will feel terrible as well.

    • @HabitsV2
      @HabitsV2  Месяц назад +2

      There are many people who feel they're just perfect the way they are, warts and all. For me, it's about learning. I'll never be perfect. Don't need to be. My body didn't like alcohol. I saw how thick I was with alcohol and didn't like that. There's a scale of toxicity. Alcohol is on one end, purified water on the other. At the end of the day, you get to choose what you put into your own body. And never let anyone tell you any different.

    • @HabitsV2

      Some people sleep soundly immediately. Some take months. It depends on the person. It depends on what else you're doing. I had one client who still wasn't getting good sleeps almost two months in. Turned out he was drinking red bull. Stopping drinking is the first step. The first change. It's not a magic bullet.
