Phenomenal deals in the US for these... almost every week "I'm about to buy one"... right now I went back and found the cheapest one for sale in the US at 275k with less than 1,000 miles on it... too much car for the money! great video as always brother, keep em coming!

You should buy one for sure. Kinda of similar to the 911r but less money and is a little more relaxed and has the cool roof. I see your love for spiders has seem to grow (your Aston and pista)

Simple macro economics apply here. The prices will normalize once all of the flippers have sold their supply, and the cars end up in the hands of those who really wanted one. Think the 911r prices dipped to almost $250k, and have run back up to $310-350k, build dependent.

@@Mexxx65 the toupee works quite well visually and in practice. They will go down tho, not enough spine tingling wish making propaganda. R had it, gt3 rs had it, 991 gt3 had it, touring similar but bit less, the speedster barely had any, the forums barely talked about them, these type of things do influence price... 991 gt3 was the main example, problematic, pdk, and yet for 2 years was over mrsp.

We were lucky enough to get a Speedster allocation and it was a privilege to spec one (it’s driven and is definitely not for sale). We have noticed over the years that Porsche dealership owners are often keeping their allocation of limited cars and then on selling them later (usually at a huge profit). The same dealer that offered us their 918 and 911 R (at crazy prices) is now selling their Speedster. Porsche needs to stamp this out.

Am I the only one that thinks the the Speedster isn’t as good looking as it should be? There’s like a lot of strange volume in above the area between the rear wheels and cabin.
Maybe that’s why there’s so many for sale?!
I actually think the Spyder is much better looking than the speedster, that with the GT3 engine would be perfect 😍
Saying that I think you could buy both a Spyder and at a GT3RS for the price of a Speedster and have your cake and eat it.

Great points, well made. I may be wrong, but it seems like many people (myself included) get caught up in long term cash values and other people’s opinions of cars, rather than just loving the cars for their own sake (which is entirely fair as no one wants to lose cash for no good reason, and no one wants people to look at their car like it sucks), but sometimes we just need to enjoy cars because we like them, for their own intrinsic value to us! Great video, Sam 🤙🏽

Great video Sam but I’d like to point out that the cloth roof and manual mechanism is NOT heavier necessarily. What makes the car heavier is the stiffening of the body that has to happen to maintain the integrity of the car so that you don’t feel it flexing since it has no roof.
The OPF and the top do deaden the sound substantially but an aftermarket exhaust is all that’s needed. I installed the Dundon exhaust in mine and it has transformed the car completely.
If you’re ever in a Miami hit me up and you can come drive it. Cheers
    Ernie

Don’t forget you can still put the roof up on the Speedster. So you could use it use it year round, even though Sam and Henry Catchpole claim it should always be a roof down car. You don’t thrash it everyday, so you could just cruise in it and after all, that’s what Porsche speedsters are also about, cruising looking cool.

These are predominantly vehicles from speculators who manage to order vehicles again and again, preferably over demonstrably real enthusiasts. How you can do this is a mystery to many, but this is not possible without the manufacturer doing at least one eye blind. We in Germany also have a lot of Speedsters for sale here, but some dealers also have G63 AMG and Maybach versions, Lamborghini Urus, etc. etc. in stock in a row and in every color. As a normal customer it means "waiting time 2 years" or "sold out". As a customer of Volkswagen and Mercedes, of course, you prefer to sell 7-10 at a time to a dealer who then only has to agree to "keep quiet". That's how it looks.

It’s a shame Porsche deviated so much from the initial concept, the bits they removed were for me some of the best bits, like those sexy bullet wing mirrors. Personally I think the 718 Spyder is way cooler looking, the proportions are much more in keeping and having driven both the 981 and 718 Spyder I question if I would want the extra size, weight and overly bulbous package.

Your review here is curious. I've driven both the Speedster and the 718 Spyder. I think the 718 Spyder looks better (it was not originally designed as a long-ish 2+2 then converted to a two seater), the Spyder weighs less and has a much more capable mid-engine layout. I understand the thrill of a 9k engine, but you panned the Spyder and you say this is your dream car? Car and Driver claims 3.8 seconds to 60, and 8.7 0-100 with the 718 and 150 ft for the 70-0 brake test. For the Speedster 0-60 was just 0.1 faster than the Spyder albeit 0.8 faster to 100 mp. Their Skidpad G force was essentially the same. The Spyder and Speedster stopped within two feet of each other from the 70-0. It's important to note the tests were done on different days with the Spyder done at a higher altitude so there is a grey area. Point is, numbers wise, they are really close in performance and I've little doubt the Spyder would be faster on twisty road thanks to its mid-engine design. So if the Spyder is aesthetically better looking and roughly 1/3 the price, why would the Speedster be your "dream car" and you have no love for the Spyder?

Didn't like them when they were first launched, I thought they looked like a boat but they've definitely grown on me. I'd probably still choose a Touring over one or even a "standard" manual GT3 tbh and buy a Boxster with the left over cash for the top down thrills!
intriguing thoughts posed though, I'd love to ask the owners why so many are for sale. Could it just be a case of the modern car ownership trends, people just aren't keeping cars for long periods anymore?

And there's currently 2 listed for sale in Australia. I'm guessing it's for a few reasons:
    1. Flippers.
    2. People who bought them because they were lucky enough to be 'chosen', and didn't want to say _no thanks_ to Porsche.
    3. Buyers remorse. (I guess it's possible?!?! LOL)

Let's look at some numbers (from mobile.de)
    - 139 "regular" Aventadors vs 78 Aventador SV/SVJ's for sale
    - 85 regular F12's and 19 tdf's and even more crazy, at least 18 LaFs
    - 33 650S (Coupe and Spider) but 27(!) 675LT's
    - ....
I think the problem is that this stupid idea of an "investment car" is just causing the wrong kind of people to buy the limited cars - they are supposed to end up in the hands of the hardcore fans but are just being bought by speculators who never drive the damn thing.
Edit: of course, it could also be dealers offering cars they do not have in stock to build a client list

Spot on. It’s another flippers car. I tried to buy one and the dealer that wouldn’t sell me one has a brand new one in stock. They speced it themselves to have in stock rather than let me have one to my own spec. It has now sat in showroom for months gathering dust and I hope they loose money on it

@@EarlX99 crazy to think a Porsche dealer won't sell you a Porsche :D
it's really a shame that all these brilliant cars have basically become speculation items

They are obviously being sold for profit with delivery miles, nothing to do with being bored with them. Same as the GT3’s, lots of new ones for sale at silly prices. Porsche dealers don’t seem to be a very good judge of character with their allocations. Ps. Also have a manual 360 Modena.

Is it possible that some UK dealers hold onto their allocation then sell them on a few months down the line with a mark up? Cars so impossible to order new shouldn’t be back on the market so quickly

It's shocking to me hearing you go on and on about this car, but your comments regarding the 718 Spyder were polar opposite. Perhaps you should revisit that car? I think the Spyder offers 80% of this driving experience for far less money. All that being said, this is my dream car too!
